Harry Reid: Democrats Won t Budge on Funding Planned Parenthood
Senate Democratic Leader Harry gave a speech on the floor of the Senate this morning confirming Senate Democrats will not budge on requiring Americans to fund the Planned Parenthood abortion business in the federal budget.
I m not going to be part of that. I won t do it, he said about efforts to cut Planned Parenthood funding on the part of House Republicans.
Reid is objecting to a short-term continuing resolution that doesn t de-fund Planned Parenthood but includes language that would put the ban back in place that prohibits taxpayer funding of abortions in the District of Columbia.
Reid said Planned Parenthood funding is the one issue that may shut down the government and condemned those who are trying to cut funding, saying the Tea Party is trying to move its extreme social agenda by throwing women under the bus. He implied Republicans want to shut down government because they think there is nothing more important than inhibiting women s rights.
Reacting to the speech, pro-life Republican Sen. Jim DeMint of South Carolina accused Democrats of choreographing a government shutdown to divert attention from President Barack Obama s lack of leadership on the budget and refusal to sign a budget bill that stops taxpayer funding of abortions or de-funds Planned Parenthood.
The president needs a distraction, and this is a choreographed distraction to try to shift the blame from a president who has been AWOL from leadership and has very little political courage, DeMint said. They are coached to call us extreme and blame it on the Tea Party. Americans are smarter than that. Full story at LifeNews.com
Donald Trump Explains Conversion to Pro-Life Side on Abortion
Business mogul Donald Trump shocked attendees at the conservative CPAC conference in February when he declared himself pro-life after years of supporting the pro-abortion position.
Several months ago, when questioned about his position, Trump responded by saying the public would be surprised by his stance and, in an interview with Laura Ingraham from Fox News leading up to the conference, Trump characterized himself as pro-life and he repeated that apparent reversal when he told the audience at CPAC, I am pro-life and pledged to fight for the reversal of Obamacare, which contains abortion funding loopholes.
That was a marked change from how Trump described himself in his 2000 book The America We Deserve, where he wrote, I support a woman s right to choose but I am uncomfortable with the procedures.
Today, in a new interview with CBN News David Brody, Trump explains the evolution of his thinking and how stories of pregnancies including one in particular helped change his mind on abortion.
Evangelicals do want to feel secure that they re going to have a nominee that s going to at least be solid on those issues, those social issues. Someone that s not just going to cut and move on, Brody said to Trump.
The billionaire responded, One thing about me, I m a very honorable guy. I m pro-life, but I changed my view a number of years ago. Full story at LifeNews.com
Pro-Abortion Stand Up for Women s Health Rally Poorly Attended
A thousand or so pro-abortion supporters gathered in front of a tiny stage yesterday with the United States Capitol as the always impressive backdrop. The small crowd consisted of mostly white, thirty-somethings wearing the pink Planned Parenthood t-shirts that had been given away on site just before the Stand Up for Women s Health rally began.
The event had been advertised on the Facebook pages of Planned Parenthood, NARAL, the ACLU, and many other pro-abortion groups pages. Attendees were promised to see the top leadership of their movement and they did.
They were all there, Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards and Nancy Keenan, who heads NARAL started the rally.
Apparently unaware of last year s election results, Ms. Keenan stated that, John Boehner may have an agenda, but he does not have a mandate from Americans across this country. Originality is not the pro-abortionist s strong suit, so for her part Ms. Richards settled on the old pro-abortion go-to-line chanting, We will never go back.
The speakers gave short and passionate speeches which were loaded with the same mind numbing iterative rhetoric. Stop the War on Women was the mantra of the day, and it was carried by pro-abortion Senators Charles Schumer (D-NY), Barbara Boxer (D-Ca.), Patty Murray (D-Wa.), and Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ). Senate Judiciary Approves Pro-Abortion Goodwin Liu Nomination
The Senate Judiciary Committee approved the nomination of a pro-abortion activists President Barack Obama nominated for a federal appeals court in the western United States.
The panel voted on a 10-8 party-line vote for Liu, whom President Barack Obama picked for the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Liu, liberal a University of California law professor, faced opposition from Republicans while getting support from each of the Democrats on the committee. Now, his nomination will head to the Senate floor where Republican lawmakers are expected to filibuster his nomination and force Democrats to find 60 votes to cut off debate.
Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa, the committee s senior Republican, promised such a move, according to the Washington Times: While I have pledged and indeed demonstrated cooperation in moving forward on consensus nominations, there is no doubt that Mr. Liu does not fall into that category.
Sen. Jeff Sessions, a pro-life Alabama Republican, agreed that Liu, who has been a board member of a local chapter of the pro-abortion legal group ACLU, is far too liberal to be approved.
In Professor Liu s case, I believe the views expressed in his writings fall far outside the mainstream of the traditional American view of law and judging, going so far as to distort the meaning of plain words beyond reality, he said.
Meanwhile, Curt Levey, executive director of the conservative Committee for Justice, called Liu the worst of Obama s nominees at all levels of the federal courts. Full story at LifeNews.com

Democrat: Republicans Against Abortion Came to Kill Women
One of the leading pro-abortion members of the House is causing furor today with her comment that the pro-life Republicans recently elected to Congress in the 2010 elections want to take women s lives.
Rep. Louise Slaughter, a New York Democrat, compared Republican efforts to revoke taxpayer funding for the Planned Parenthood abortion business to actions taken by the Nazi regime in Germany during World War II.
This is probably one of the worst times we ve seen because the numbers of people elected to Congress. I went through this as co-chair of the arts caucus, Slaughter said, according to a CNS News report. In 94 people were elected simply to come here to kill the National Endowment for the Arts. Now they re here to kill women.
Slaughter s focus is also the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act, a bill that would apply to every federal program and department to ensure that pro-life advocates don t have to pass several pro-life riders annually to ensure various parts of the federal government don t fund abortions with taxpayer dollars. Slaughter made the false charge that the bill forces women to prove they were raped or a victim of incest to qualify for a publicly-funded abortion under the rare exceptions in the bill.
You are allowed to have an abortion if you have been raped or it s a matter of incest, said Slaughter. However, you have to keep a receipt. Did you know that? It s sort of like an old German Nazi movie. Show me your papers! Full story at LifeNews.com
Oregon Effort to Attack Pregnancy Centers Stopped, Pro-Life Win
The latest attempt to attack pregnancy centers that provide women with real help and abortion alternatives has failed in Oregon after a significant pro-life pushback.
Care Net, a national network of 1,130 pregnancy centers, celebrated the defeat of an Oregon bill that was designed to direct pregnant women away from pregnancy centers and toward abortion businesses. The bill, SB 769, was prompted by abortion advocacy groups that have launched a nationwide campaign against pregnancy centers that take away their business by providing tangible pregnancy support.
The bill was defeated Wednesday when a Senate Committee passed over the bill after hearing strong testimony from pregnancy center directors, former clients, and other advocates. Care Net President Melinda Delahoyde praised the Oregon legislators for refusing to lend support to the bill in comments to LifeNews.
Care Net commends Oregon legislators for recognizing the truth about SB 769 that it was a biased attack by one industry on its competition, Delahoyde said. Women in Oregon deserve to make their own choice of where they go for help with an unexpected pregnancy. This bill would have eliminated that choice and had the government pointing them solely to abortion providers. Full story at LifeNews.com
Heroes for Life: Pope John Paul II and Terri Schiavo
Last week was the six year anniversary of the death of two beautiful witnesses to the intrinsic dignity of every human person, Pope John Paul II and Terri Schiavo.

He was a brilliant theologian and philosopher, writing countless profound pages of that will be a treasure to all of Christianity for years to come. He played a great role in bringing the Soviet Union to its knees. And his life demonstrated the intrinsic dignity of the human person.
John Paul II was diagnosed with Parkinson s disease in 1993, at the age of 73. As the disease progressed, the Pope s physical abilities deteriorated. He suffered from tremors and lost his ability to walk or speak normally. He became more and more hunched over every year. There were times when he was in great pain. Despite his physical infirmities, he continued to be an imposing force for good, with his great intellect, gracious heart, and moral authority. On April 2, 2005 he died from septic shock.
