Lifeissues.net: clear thinking about crucial issues

Dear Friends For Life,

San Jose Articles: A Valueable Tool - This is a valuable new tool launched at the UN and capitols around the world. It equips pro-lifers with this document that pushes back against pro-abortion arguments and their attempts to legalize abortion. The San Jose Articles, prepared by a group of experts on international law, public health, science, medicine and government make it clear that there is no international right to abortion. These were adopted in March 2011 at San Jose, Costa Rica, and were used in the European Parliament. Initiated by C-Fam, these were created in response to a continuing relentless push by UN officials to falsely assert that there is a human right to abortion in Catholic countries. Actually, no UN treaty or convention recognizes a right to abortion, yet UN agencies continue to promote legal abortion. This is a ready reference which documents international treaties and laws that protect the lives of unborn children.

(Focus on Asia): "UN honours memory of children who perished in the Holocaust" -  (27 January 2012) - The United Nations today honoured the memory of the more than 1.5 million boys and girls who perished in the Holocaust, with top officials stressing the need to speak out against intolerance and to protect the lives and human rights of children around the world. "Today, as we remember all those lost during the Holocaust - young and old alike - I call on all nations to protect the most vulnerable, regardless of race, colour, gender or religious beliefs."

ITEM #1: Stem cell research on donor eggs often not disclosed

Thirteen percent of women using reversible methods of contraceptives will experience contraceptive failure (e.g. pregnancy) in their first year of use and 8 percent in the second year of use. Contraceptive effectivness also varies based on four socioeconomic factors: women's age, union status (e.g. married, cohabiting, not in a union), poverty status, and race or ethnicity. Of women younger than 18 years old, 21.1% experience an unintended pregnancy (contraceptive failure) in the first two years of use.

Eggsploitation: Tooting our horn, Eggsploitation won Best Documentary at the 2011 California Independent Film Festival, has been sold into over 20 countries. It continues to educate young women who are being targeted with large sums of money to engage is risky behavior.

ITEM #2: UK survey finds science misconduct "alive and well"

More than one in 10 British-based scientists or doctors have witnessed colleagues intentionally altering or fabricating data during their research, according to a survey by the British Medical Journal (BMJ) on Thursday.

****************************************

ITEM #3: Make Me a Baby As Fast As You Can

How a California surrogacy operation streamlines baby production by implanting clients' embryos in two Indian surrogates at the same time.

****************************************

ITEM #4: Brain Support Cells From Umbilical Cord Stem Cells

For the first time ever, stem cells from umbilical cords have been converted into other types of cells, which may eventually lead to new treatment options for spinal cord injuries and multiple sclerosis, among other nervous system diseases.

****************************************

ITEM #5: Emergency 'Contraceptives' More Available Than Ever: Now What?

Recent controversies in the United States surrounding the "morning after pill" point to international trends making such potentially abortifacient drugs increasingly accessible to men and women of all ages. While the Catholic Church's consistent teaching about the intrinsic evil of contraception (Humanae vitae) seems to be increasingly validated by the sciences as a destructive social and physical phenomenon in society, many still have the mistaken impression that it is to be avoided only for "religious" reasons. In fact, what we are seeing is widespread acceptance of drugs that not only prevent pregnancy, but actually cause abortions, making their labeling as "contraceptives" somewhat misleading.

****************************************

ITEM #6: Anti-euthanasia Ruling Hailed as Major Victory

In a communiqué today, the European Centre for Law and Justice (ECLJ) reported that the resolution passed, setting the principle: "Euthanasia, in the sense of the intentional killing by act or omission of a dependent human being for his or her alleged benefit, must always be prohibited." This is the first time in recent decades that euthanasia has been so clearly rejected by a European political institution, the council explained.

****************************************

ITEM #7 Pro-Abortion Study Dismissed By Experts

A study by family planning advocates concluding that abortion is safer for women than carrying a child to term has been sharply criticised by doctors who say the years-old claim has been debunked by data on the long-term effects of abortion.

****************************************

ITEM #8: 'I regret my abortion': post-abortive parents tell heart-breaking stories at March youth rally

When someone mentions the victims of abortion, people usually think about the 54.5 million children whose lives have been claimed by the procedure since 1973. After Saturday's March for Life Youth Rally, they may broaden that definition to include the mothers - and fathers - whose lives are often scarred with guilt and regret, and who were often pressured or even forced into getting an abortion by abusive boyfriends and the aggressive misinformation of the abortion industry.

****************************************

ITEM #9: Nazi extermination of thousands of disabled children featured in new Berlin museum exhibit

Berlin's "Topography of Terror," museum, which features exhibits on the murderous crimes of German police forces during the Nazi era, has begun a temporary display on the thousands of children euthanized during the same period as "life unworthy of life." "How is [what the Nazis did] different from today's society which treats pre-born children as objects to be used," asked Stephanie Gray of the pro-life group CCBR.

****************************************

ITEM #10: Oklahoma Senator Correct - Mainstream Media Wrong: Aborted Fetal Cells Are Used in Development of Flavor Enhancers for Food Products

The focus is on San Francisco based biotech company Senomyx, who states on their website that, "We created proprietary taste receptor-based assay systems that provide a biochemical or electronic readout when a flavor ingredient interacts with the receptor." What they don't tell the public is that they are using HEK 293 (human embryonic kidney cells) taken from an electively aborted baby to produce those receptors.

See www.cogforlife.org/oklahomasenator.htm for more information.

****************************************

ITEM #11: Words of death: 'it's a girl!'

Women killing women. What a sad world "choice" has brought us.

****************************************

ITEM #12: A New Beginning at the End of Days

Some think dying needs a push, "assistance" to make it come sooner. They find dozens of ways to hasten death, imposing death on the unwilling in most cases. The so-called "choice" to be "assisted" to death is a fraud, as patients are made to be unconscious and then finished off without even asking permission. The problem with blind zealotry is that many thousands of patients can be victimized in the process, and have been. Safeguards never prevent misuse of such a power over life and death. Even government reports from European nations confirm that thousands of patients have been recently involuntarily put to death.
