Former abortion clinic workers detail conversion stories

At a recent conference in Illinois, former abortion workers told the stories of the work that they once thought was helping women, and how they were converted to the pro-life position.

5 reasons my marriage comes before my children

"I am not married to my children. See, my husband and I chose each other. We made a plan and an agreement and a promise. Because marriage is hard work, we had to vow, in front of all our family and friends, to put up with each others foolishness and care for one another despite any challenges that might leap out to derail our happy union train."

40 Days for Life: DAY 5: "I just can't do it"

40days

Dear Deacon,

Abortions on a Sunday?

Even on the Lord's Day, there are abortionists open
for business. As hard as that may seem to believe,
it's true.

Your prayers are needed so women don't make a mistake
that will cost their babies their lives -- and will
perhaps affect them in ways they can't even imagine
for years to come.

But even for those who have made that mistake, there
is eternal hope. Here are a couple of stories of hurt
... and healing.

-----------------------------------------------------
UNEXPECTED CALL
-----------------------------------------------------

I'm going to keep the location confidential for this
first story.

"I received a call from a woman telling me she had
gotten information about our campaign from a local
church," a local leader said, "and she wanted to know
if she could help. Her voice was a little broken, as
she explained to me that people just don't realize
how they might feel later."

The caller went on to say that women who think
abortion is the answer just don't realize that years
later, they'll be wondering about the baby -- what
they would have looked like, what they might have
gone on to do. They also don't realize that God will
hold them accountable for what they've done.

"As she was saying these things, and trying to speak
clearly, she was sobbing between her words," the
leader said. "I could hear the pain in her voice."

Finally, the 40 Days for Life volunteer asked her,
"Ma'am, did you have an abortion?"

In tears, the caller answered, "No, but my daughter
did. She was 15 at the time and I was going through
a divorce. She was so young. We thought it was the
best thing." She considered herself responsible.

The woman was quickly told that the Lord is always
ready to forgive and Rachel’s Vineyard, for instance,
offers retreats for healing after abortion. She was
also told about the pro-life pregnancy help center
and the services it offers.

The woman expressed relief and gratitude.

"40 Days for Life is about so much more than what we
may originally think," the leader said. "I did not
expect that call. It was totally heart-wrenching. I
have been so blessed to be part of this -- to see the
power of God working and to be part of helping
someone to heal in some small way. Please know ...
you are making a difference!"

-----------------------------------------------------
AUSTIN, TEXAS
-----------------------------------------------------

The grandmother in the first story wanted to do
whatever she could to convince others to avoid the
path she took.

So did a woman Texas, who brought her message to the
sidewalk in front of an abortion center in south
Austin. She stood and prayed, holding a sign that
reads, "I regret my abortion."

As she prayed, two women drove up to the building.
One of them appeared to be quite upset. The two looked
at the woman praying ... glanced at the sign ... and
walked inside.

But they weren't inside long. After a very short stay,
they left the building, got into their car and drove
towards the exit, stopping at the sidewalk where one
of them took information about community resources.

She looked at the volunteer and said, “I can’t do it.
I just can’t do it. Thank you very much!”

One woman's simple, prayerful presence was all it took.

Here's today's devotional from Rev. Ben Sheldon,
president emeritus of Presbyterians Pro-Life...

-----------------------------------------------------
DAY 5 INTENTION
-----------------------------------------------------

May the truth of the final judgment shape our
thoughts, priorities, and choices here on earth.

-----------------------------------------------------
SCRIPTURE
-----------------------------------------------------

The King will answer and say to them, "Assuredly, I
say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the
least of these my brethren, you did it to me."

-- Matthew 25:31-46

-----------------------------------------------------
REFLECTION by Rev. Ben Sheldon
-----------------------------------------------------

Caring for others is not optional.

Jesus' picture of the final judgment concludes with
this sobering word: the wicked, who failed to care
for others in their various needs (e.g., the hungry,
the thirsty, the aliens, the naked, the sick, the
imprisoned) will go away into everlasting punishment,
but the righteous who did seek to meet those needs
will end up with him, enjoying eternal life.

We know that this was no parable! Jesus has given us
fair warning! Everything in God's Word points to the
truth that compassionate concern and practical care
for all people, especially for the poor, the
destitute, the weak and needy is required of us, if
indeed we hope to escape the punishment of the fire
of hell.

And who are the poor and needy, if not helpless,
unborn babies, as well as the aged and infirm at the
other end of life? Surely the "least of these"
embraces not only those at both ends of the continuum
of life, but all others in between.

Just how we, as Christ's true followers, respond to
his admonition "inasmuch as you did it to the least
of these, you did it to me" will determine whether we
enjoy eternal bliss in his presence or the bleak and
dreadful reality of eternal punishment in hell.
Nothing in God's Word could be clearer!

-----------------------------------------------------
PRAYER
-----------------------------------------------------

Gracious and merciful Father, we gladly embrace your
Word that counsels us to care for the least of your
children, and we renew our dedication to defending
the unborn and all whose right to life is compromised
by our godless society's selfish lack of concern.
Free us from our own failures and sins so that we
will be truly pro-life in every area of our lives.
Through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

Archbishop John J. Myers: Woe To Me If I Do Not Proclaim The Gospel!

Catholic Politicians, Who Do Not Accept The Church’s Teaching On Marriage, Should Not Receive Holy Communion.

By: John-Henry Westen

NEWARK, NJ, September 27, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) – On Tuesday Newark Archbishop John J. Myers released a pastoral letter calling on Catholics, especially Catholic politicians, who do not accept the teaching of the Church on marriage, to “in all honesty and humility refrain from receiving Holy Communion.” The Archbishop said that “to continue to receive Holy Communion while so dissenting would be objectively dishonest.”

The New Jersey prelate made a distinction between those struggling at times unsuccessfully against sin, and those who would willingly oppose Church teaching.

He said: “there is a difference between trying to live the whole Gospel while repenting of failures along the way, and not even trying. Worse still is the attempt by some to alter or pervert the authentic teaching of the Church, which is the true teaching of Christ.”

Archbishop Myers warned, “Jesus had very harsh things to say to those whose false teachings led others, especially the young, astray.”  (Courageous Priest note:  Mat 18:6 But who so shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.)

The 16-page letter is a robust teaching on marriage and family which notes that divorce and contraception have paved the way for confusion in the Church and the world around homosexual ‘marriage’.

“The widespread use of contraception in sexual relations makes it difficult for young people today to grasp the intrinsic meaning and relation between sexual activity and procreation that has always been one of the fundamental meanings of marriage,” says the Archbishop.

Archbishop Myers explains that he is Biblically bound to preach the truth ‘in season and out of season’ and advises all the faithful to do likewise. “Woe to me if I do not proclaim the gospel,” he cited.

In Honor of The Holy Archangels:

Book Review: Letters to Gabriel

I was mourning my third miscarriage and seeking a book that would offer me comforting words from a Catholic mother who had also lost a child. I found Letters to Gabriel by Karen Garver Santorum. In the pages of this book I got to know Karen as she spoke to her son Gabriel, who is now with God. This is a story of fierce love for a child by his parents.

While still in utero, Gabriel had a life threatening urinary tract irregularity. His body was not producing urine and he would soon die. Karen, a neo-natal nurse, and Rick would not accept this. They traveled out of state to a doctor who was able to do inter-uterine surgery. Although the surgery was successful, Karen contracted an infection that caused premature labor. Despite their best efforts to save him, Gabriel was born prematurely and did not survive. He was waked at home and buried as any other member of the Santorum family would be.

But the story didn’t end with Gabriel’s death. Karen lost Gabriel in the middle of the Senate debates on the Partial Birth Abortion Ban. Rick, who had not sought the national spotlight, was suddenly thrust into it as he debated the well-known, pro-abortion senator, Barbara Boxer of California.

“Senator (Boxer) was thanking the women who had had partial birth abortions for coming forward with their stories… She said she “hears the cries of the women outside this Chamber.”

“We would be deafened by the cries of children who are not here to cry because of this procedure,” retorted Senator Santorum. The Washington Post described what happened next.

Republican Senator Rick Santorum turned to face the opposition, and in a high, pleading voice, cried out, “where do we draw the line? Some people have likened this procedure to an appendectomy. This is not an appendix!” he shouted, pointing to a drawing of a fetus. “It is a baby. It’s a baby.”

And then, impossibly, in an already hushed gallery, the cry of a baby pierced the room, echoing across the chamber from an outside hallway. Not one mentioned the cry, but for a few seconds no one spoke at all.”

Karen continues, “A coincidence? Perhaps. . .or maybe. . .it was the cry from the son whose voice we never heard, but whose life had forever changed ours.”

Rick concludes, “Sometimes you hear a faint voice inside whispering what you should do. With respect to this issue, I heard the message through a loudspeaker.

I interviewed Rick Santorum in 2007 for Canticle magazine, and he said he felt as thought it was Gabriel’s voice from heaven, supporting his father as he asserted the truth that the unborn baby is still a baby with a right to live. During the interview, I shared with Rick that Letters to Gabriel resonated with me because my daughter Christina has Down syndrome, and we chatted about the blessing of special needs children. Within a year, baby Isabella Maria Santorum was born with Trisomy 18, an event which Rick said inspired him to run for president, to help create a more welcoming culture for children with special needs.

Letters to Gabriel is a sensitive and comforting book because it reminds parents who have lost a child that their child matters to God, to their family, and to the world. It is a unique tribute to the value of every human life, and should be on every Catholic family’s bookshelf. I myself bought several copies to give away to friends who had also experienced the loss of a baby.

Hymn of Praise to St. Gabriel, the Archangel.

Luke i. 19: "I am Gabriel, who stand before God."

Hail Gabriel, hail; a thousand hails
For thine whose music still prevails
To charm the list'ning ear;
Angelic word, sent forth to tell
How He the Eternal Word should dwell
Amid His creatures here.

Heaven's voice of sweetness, uttered low,
Thy words like strains of music grow
Upon the stilly night;
Clear echoes from the mind of God,
That steal through Mary's blest abode
In pulses of delight.

O voice, dear voice, the ages hear
That hail of thine still ling'ring near,
An unexhausted song;
And still thou com'st with balmy wing,
And still thou sweetly seem'st to sing,
Thine Ave to prolong.

Take up in Heaven for us thy part,
And singing to the Sacred Heart
Thy strains of rapture raise;
And tune with endless Ave still
The voices of the Blest, and fill

Reason #34 to Defeat Barack Obama:
How a second Obama term would kill unborn children

vicfund-donate-sq-052312
We still hear from a few people who say they are pro-life, but who intend to vote for Barack Obama for other reasons.  From reading their letters and hearing their arguments, I firmly believe we can win enough of these people to the pro-life Romney/Ryan camp to win the election.  Here’s why:

Polls show a majority of Americans oppose abortion.  But many Americans don’t understand that when they vote for a presidential candidate who supports abortion “rights,” they are voting for the killing of many thousands, perhaps even hundreds of thousands of additional children.  They are also voting to allow the most brutal of late abortions.  There is no way around this fact.

Take, for example, the president’s power to appoint Supreme Court justices and other federal judges.  Like it or not, these jurists wield such enormous power that they effectively set the boundaries for abortion policy in the United States.

The fact that we had a pro-life president from 2001-2009 dramatically changed abortion jurisprudence – in other words, the way the Supreme Court looks at abortion.   After President Bush appointed two Supreme Court justices who believe the states and Congress have legitimate interests in protecting unborn life, the Court for the first time since Roe v. Wade allowed an entire method of performing late abortions – partial-birth abortion – to be banned, and not just regulated, as they had in previous rulings.

This was an enormous step forward because it suggested to us the Court might allow other abortions to be banned, as well.  As a result, we are now passing state laws to ban abortion when the child is old enough to feel pain.  These laws are preventing thousands of unborn babies from being brutally killed by late abortions in many states.  This would not have happened without President Bush’s appointment of two Supreme Court justices.

But these humanitarian laws that save so many lives will likely be struck down if Obama gets a second term and has the chance to appoint even one Supreme Court justice as a replacement for one of the justices who have been voting to uphold limits on abortion.  And two of those justices will be 80 years old by 2016, when a second Obama term would end.

That means a second Obama term is a clear and present danger to the lives of unborn children, not some “theoretical” threat that justifies weighing “other” issues against it.  Simply put, anyone who thinks a vote for Obama isn’t a vote for many more aborted babies is wrong.  Dead wrong.

Obama’s true commitment to eliminating laws that protect unborn children can be seen in his support for the “Freedom of Choice” Act.  This bill, which he co-sponsored as a U.S. Senator in 2007, would have overturned the federal ban on partial-birth abortions; mandated government funding of abortion by every state; and eliminated most other federal and state laws that restrict abortion.

Polls show a sizeable number of Americans will change their votes to the pro-life candidate when presented with these facts.  And that is precisely our strength!

The National Right to Life Victory Fund uses the most effective techniques to find and persuade pro-life voters to vote for the pro-life candidates because of the pro-life issue.  Exit polling shows we win over many more votes than pro-abortion PACs can, and because of that advantage, we sway many more races our way.

Our strength is in making multiple, persuasive contacts to pro-life households, especially in the key battleground states, in order to make sure pro-lifers are getting out to vote and voting for our pro-life candidates.  It works, as the NRL political committee’s win rate of more than 2/3rds of races against pro-abortion PACs attests!

The key now, with less than six weeks to go before the election, is to ask for your help.  We are effective at winning elections because of those who support us financially so we can print and mail literature, buy advertising and conduct
extensive get-out-the-vote campaigns.  To win, we need you, now more than ever!

Please help us prevent a second Obama term by generously donating to the National Right to Life Victory Fund.  The NRL Victory Fund is a independent expenditure PAC, which means it can accept unlimited gifts from individuals and corporations.  This means you can make more of a difference now than perhaps ever before!

Please send your generous support today and please share this message with all your pro-life friends.  Thank you!

Sincerely,
Carol Tobias,

President
National Right to Life

40 Days for Life: DAY 4: The gospel on the 6 o'clock news

Dear Deacon,

The media.

Yes, I know a lot of people shudder when they hear
those words. At the national level, there is often
disdain for Christianity and everything Christians
do. At the local level, however, it’s often a much
different story.

40 Days for Life campaigns are finding local news
organizations are willing to listen ... and our
local leaders have done a great job during this
first week of the campaign to take full advantage.

Even when the the media doesn't agree with us,
they're still providing a huge platform and enabling
local leaders to spread the word about 40 Days for
Life throughout the communities they serve.

See for yourself!

GREEN BAY, WISCONSIN

Green Bay was part of the first 40 Days for Life
campaign five years ago, and is now participating
for the ninth time. Among the local media covering
the opening day event was the Fox affiliate.

One of the local team members told the reporter, "We
decided the best thing to do is just surround the
buildings with prayer, with our prayer for those who
are involved with abortion, those who are considering
abortion, and hopefully to change their hearts and
minds through a peaceful prayer vigil."

The reporter asked for comment from the abortion
facility’s staff, but no one wanted to talk.

Milton Keynes is about 45 miles northwest of London.
The city is taking part in its first 40 Days for Life
campaign, praying near a BPAS abortion facility. BPAS
is one of the main abortion providers in Great Britain.

Local director Andy Burton recently had an opportunity
to spread the word about the campaign on BBC Three
Counties Radio. While he was able to talk about the
vigil, the need for prayer and the nature of the BPAS
abortion business, the host was intent on interrupting
him and questioning him repeatedly about "hard case"
scenarios such as rape and incest.

It was not an especially friendly interview. But more
people in the area now know about 40 Days for Life.

SAGINAW, MICHIGAN
-----------------------------------------------------

This is the fourth 40 Days for Life effort in Saginaw.
The opening day of this campaign saw a number of people
come out to pray -- including Bishop Joseph Cistone of
the local Catholic diocese.

A news team from the local CBS affiliate was there to
report on the vigil -- and to interview Bishop Cistone.

"We believe in the power of God so we are interceding
that God will do His work among our people," he said,
"that there would be an end to abortion and we would
have a deeper respect for life at all its stages from
conception to natural death."

As for the "other side" of the story, here again, no
one from the abortion center would go on camera.

Here's today's devotional from Fr. Frank Pavone,
national director of Priests for Life...

-----------------------------------------------------
DAY 4 INTENTION
-----------------------------------------------------

We ask God that we may understand the concept of
justice, as a gift he gives and as a responsibility
that shapes our work.

-----------------------------------------------------
SCRIPTURE
-----------------------------------------------------

Let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like
a never-failing stream!

-- Amos 5:24

-----------------------------------------------------
REFLECTION by Fr. Frank Pavone, Priests for Life
-----------------------------------------------------

Justice, a key theme of the Scriptures, is something
God does and that we too must do.

When God intervenes to save his people when they are
helpless and in slavery in Egypt, he "does justice."
He manifested his justice in the plagues that were
sent upon Egypt, whereby Pharaoh was convinced that
he must let the people go. Justice is manifested as,
in awe and wonder, God's people see the Red Sea open
before them, allow them to pass without even getting
their feet wet, and then close again to drown their
powerful enemies.

God is a God of Justice; he rescues us when we cannot
save ourselves. His justice, above all, is seen in
Jesus Christ, who, when we could not save ourselves,
rescued us from the kingdom of sin, Satan, death, and
hell. The mighty work of Christ on the cross and in
the resurrection is the perfect manifestation of God
as the God of justice.

We, then, are to be the people of justice; we are to
"do justice" by intervening to save the helpless in
the name and by the power of the God who saves us who
are helpless ourselves. That's why we have a pro-life
movement; that's why we have a 40 Days for Life
Campaign; that's why saving the unborn is our
business.

-----------------------------------------------------
PRAYER
-----------------------------------------------------

God of Justice, you heard the cry of your people when
they were being oppressed in Egypt, and you proved
yourself to be the God of justice, who rescues the
helpless. You likewise rescued us from the kingdom of
darkness, and brought us into the Kingdom of your
Beloved Son, Jesus Christ, who saves us from the
power of Satan, sin, death, and hell.

Make us people of justice, ready to intervene to save
the helpless. Indeed, as your prophets have
announced, let justice roll on like a mighty river,
to save all who are in need, especially the unborn.
We pray through Christ our Lord, Amen.

Ever since the first Stand Up for Religious Freedom Rally back in March, new initiatives have been blooming all over the country to fight the Obama administration’s HHS Mandate.

One of the most exciting of these efforts is ActsFive29, taking place in Washington, D.C. starting tomorrow and running through October 2.

ActsFive29 involves several components, including four days of continuous prayer at the White House, a special Rosary event and a Stand Up for Religious Freedom Rally this Sunday, September 30th from 1:30 to 3:30pm at Lafayette Park [map]. [Continue reading ...]
