Reason #33 to Defeat Barack Obama: EMILY’s List In 1985, a group of abortion supporters created EMILY’s List, a political action committee dedicated to expanding abortion “rights’” by electing pro-abortion women candidates. Today, it is one of the largest political action committees in the country based on revenue, raising more than $38 million in the 2009-2010 election cycle. After initially supporting Hillary Clinton for president in the 2008 primaries, EMILY’s List announced its support for Barack Obama later that year and says of the 2012 race, “we have to do everything in our power to keep President Barack Obama in the White House.” EMILY’s List is not named after an individual, but rather is an acronym that makes the case for donations. Early Money Is Like Yeast – E.M.I.L.Y. – is the catchy phrase to convince donors to contribute early in a campaign to help pro-abortion candidates get established. The theory is that early financial support will bring a candidate rising attention, donations, and votes. Ironically, EMILY’s List might more accurately be named the “Anti-Emily” List. Let me tell you about another Emily. Three-year-old Emily is the darling of the family. She giggles – a lot – which delights the people around her. Emily seems to find everything in her little world funny . . . and fun. She has a brother she loves – most of the time – and a tabby cat she gleefully dangles a string in front of just to see it lunge. She isn’t the most consistent little kid in the world – sometimes she’ll get all dressed up for church and walk around with her head up and showing off; other times she’ll dress up just as nice and head straight to her muddy sandbox. She has years ahead of her to learn and love and care and help those who come to depend on her. And she’ll do it with the same joy and wonder of the world that she’s showing today as a three-year-old girl. Her life, as is every life, will be a treasure. But the tragedy is, it won’t. Emily never had this wondrous and magical life because our Emily is one of the four million children aborted since Barack Obama took office, since EMILY’s List helped elect candidates in 2008 that gave Barack Obama a pro-abortion House and Senate. Fifty-four million Emilys have been lost since abortion was legalized, and lost with them has been all of that joy . . . all of that hope . . . all of those futures . . . all lost and never to be fulfilled. This series of 54 Reasons to Defeat Barack Obama commemorates all those lost children and says to the world that we will never forget. It’s also a call to all pro-lifers to help defeat Barack Obama and his pro-abortion allies in Congress, so that one day every Emily will get the whole life she deserves and not have it cut short – violently and often painfully – in the womb. Even with all of EMILY’s List’s money, we are extremely competitive! EMILY’s List throws money at candidates, one way to try to influence an election. But the National Right to Life Victory Fund uses far more effective and proven grass-roots techniques that get out the vote. In head-to-head races between National Right to Life’s PAC and the combined team of EMILY’s List, Planned Parenthood Action Fund and NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC, we’ve consistently won two-thirds or more of the races! Your donation to the National Right to Life Victory Fund can help us win more crucial races this year . . . and give more Emilys a future, a life to enjoy and treasure.
