Lifeissues.net: clear thinking about crucial issues

Dear Friends For Life,

"Assisted suicide" is a euphemism for one form of euthanasia; while there are some people who really do want it, the danger is that a "right to die" becomes a "duty to die" very quickly. In any event, we are disproportionately putting certain people - disabled and poor - into a category of people who don’t get the suicide-prevention services normally offered everyone else.
That post-combat suicides are rising is in many places in the news now; the posttrauma reactions that lead to suicide are well documented. Studies also suggest the possibility that having an abortion is more likely to lead women to suicide: for example, mortality studies in Finland found a three-fold increased risk of suicide in the first year following an abortion compared to the general population and a six-fold higher risk compared to women who gave birth. The highest suicide rate was within two months of the abortion. Less studied but with some cases known worth paying attention to are the fathers who commit post-abortion suicides.

God Bless,
Jerry Novotny, OMI

(Traditional Marriage
): "TFP Tour for True Marriage"Our fist stop was at the enormous Mall of America where we set up at a busy intersection. The signs, the 14-foot banner inscribed with "God's marriage = 1 man + 1 woman, bagpipes, American flag, and TFP standard make a clear, visible and powerful statement. Some love it, but others don't.

ITEM #1: Planned Parenthood Text Program Targets Kids With Sex, Abortion

The Planned Parenthood abortion business has launched a new text and chat program that targets kids with information about sex and abortion. A new video posted yesterday by the nation's largest abortion company targets young people with instructions on how to text questions about abortion and sex to its staff.

ITEM #2: Marriage is the most effective weapon to fight child poverty, study finds

Being in an intact home reduces a child's chances of living in poverty by 82 percent.

****************************************

ITEM #3:
Higher Death Rates After Abortion Found in U.S., Finland, and Denmark

A new study of the medical records for nearly half a million women in Denmark reveals significantly higher maternal death rates following abortion compared to delivery. This finding has confirmed similar large-scale population studies conducted in Finland and the United States, but contradicts the widely held belief that abortion is safer than childbirth.

****************************************

ITEM #4: Men, Abortion and Suicide

At this point, there are only a few studies examining the impact of abortion on men. Counselors who work with men after abortion say that men have reported a large number of problems that they claim were a direct result of their abortion experience. These include broken relationships; sexual dysfunction; substance abuse; feelings of self-hatred; risk-taking and suicidal behavior; increasing feelings of grief over time; feelings of helplessness, guilt, and depression; greater tendencies toward becoming angry and violent; and feelings connected to a sense of lost manhood.

ITEM #5: Must read: A different brand of liberated woman

Liberated Catholic women were not born yesterday. And they are not found only at the podiums of political conventions or the helm of modern feminist organizations. They can be found in every corner and every era of the Catholic Church, and their centuries of collected wisdom deserve to be rediscovered by a new generation.

ITEM #6: Assisted Suicide Pushes Against Suicide Prevention Efforts

Comment: If the WHO wants to issue a truly clarion call to prevent suicides, it must emphasize that means all suicides. It needs to stop ignoring the suicide promoters among us. Indeed, it must call out the assisted suicide/euthanasia movement for the destructive force that it is and note that while some seek to help the despairing remain in life, others are pushing in the other direction. -Nancy Valko, RN

ITEM #7 Scientists: harmful hormones from birth control pill can't be filtered out in sewage treatment

More ominously, the scientists warn that, "If we do nothing, endocrine disruptors may not only impact on human health but all the ecosystems including those on which we depend - if we compromise soil productivity and sustainability of our agricultural systems or cause imbalance in marine and freshwater ecosystems through damage to populations of top predators, ultimately, we threaten our own survival."

****************************************

ITEM #8: Prenatal Testing Leading to Abortions of Disabled Babies is Eugenics

Calling fetuses defective if they are prenatally diagnosed with genetic conditions foreshadows a dangerous path toward eugenics.

****************************************

ITEM #9: Scientists Moving Forward With Making Three-Parent Embryos

The BBC reports this morning on the launch of a new consultation by the HFEA (Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority) into a new controversial fertility treatment which creates embryos from two women and one man to prevent life-threatening disorders.

ITEM #10: A Generation at Risk: How Teens Are Manipulated Into Abortion

Unfortunately, there are few safeguards currently in place to protect teenagers from coerced abortions. Without a mechanism to provide for cross-examination of witnesses and the introduction of witnesses who would testify that the abortion is not in the girl's best interests, how can judges make an informed decision? How can we be sure that the adults seeking permission for the young girl to abort without notifying her parents are not themselves manipulating or pressuring the girl to choose abortion?

ITEM #11: New first for Belgium: prisoner euthanasia

No doubt about it: Belgium is the place to be for creative applications of legalised euthanasia. Last year Belgian transplant surgeons revealed that they had harvested organs from four people who were voluntarily euthanased. Now it appears that one prisoner, a rapist-murderer, has already died after voluntary euthanasia and another has requested it.
