Bill that, critics say, would open the door for physician-assisted suicide in California makes its way into the full Assembly
A bill that critics say would permit euthanasia in some circumstances passed the state assembly’s judiciary committee last week and may come up before the full Assembly this week. Assemblywoman Patty Berg, D-Eureka, introduced the bill, AB 2747, “End of life care,” after attempts in the past two years failed to persuade the state legislature to approve full-blown assisted suicide bills.
AB 2747 would mandate that, following a diagnosis that a patient is terminally ill or has less than one year to live, a “health care provider shall, upon the patient’s request, provide the patient with comprehensive information and counseling regarding legal end-of-life care options.”
