Fr. Jenkins of Notre Dame, Lloyd Dean of Catholic Healthcare West, and lawyer who backs same-sex marriage to be commencement speakers at USF

On May 21-22, the 2010 commencement exercises at the Jesuit University of San Francisco will take place, and, in keeping with a pattern that has developed over the years, the university has invited controversial speakers to address graduates of the university's various schools.
Fr. John Jenkins, C.S.C., president of the University of Notre Dame, will address graduate students of the College of Arts and Sciences. Fr. Jenkins was not too well known before around the end of 2008. That's when it became known that he had invited pro-abortion President Barack Obama to be commencement speaker and receive an honorary degree at Notre Dame's May 2009 graduation ceremonies. Fr. Jenkins' invitation resulted in a firestorm of opposition -- including from his own bishop, who refused to attend the commencement ceremonies. At least 83 bishops publicly went on record in opposition to Fr. Jenkins' invitation. Like President Obama at Notre Dame, Fr. Jenkins will be awarded an honorary degree by USF.
