Dear Friends for Life,
A new Brazilian poll is strongly anti-abortion. In a major national poll, 74% of respondents in Brazil state that they are opposed to abortion. 23% support legalizing. We note that Brazil's president, Lula da Silva has been attempting to weaken Brazil's pro-life laws. As part of this, the government has been distributing free the abortifacient, morning-after pills.
Believe it or not, Planned Parenthood is demanding sexual rights for small children. In a new report, "Stand and Deliver," the International Planned Parenthood Federation demands, "comprehensive sexuality education" for children as young as 10 years. "Young people are sexual beings and are entitled to sexual education which promotes individual wellbeing and the advancement of broad social and public health goals." Therefore, "sex education must be mandatory in school and the government should insist on this." IPPF says, "This is necessary to encourage young people's self esteem, thoughtful decision making and negotiating skills, and they should be helped to develop satisfying and pleasurable sexual lives." Therefore, they should have unrestrained access to sex education and services.
Korea finally has birth subsidies. But is it too late? To remedy the alarming birth dearth in South Korea, families with more than two children will now receive state subsidies. Businesses will be required to set up day care centers and single parents will be able to be enrolled in state-sponsored free child care services. So far other efforts to increase the birth rate have failed.
God Bless,
Jerry Novotny, OMI

(FOCUS ON ASIA): "Authorities in Asia seek to sterilise their populations" - The Chinese state media has reported that authorities have detained 1,300 people in order to sterilise them. This is part of a 20-day campaign to sterilise almost 10,000 people suspected of planning to break the strict Chinese family-planning laws. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article-1266574/Chinese-city-detains-1-300-compulsory-sterilisation-drive.html?printingPage=true Such sterilisation campaigns are not limited to China. Thousands of women in Uzbekistan experience forced sterilations. These sterilisations are state-ordered and irreversible. http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/982811175?z00m=19833102

ITEM #1. Last Minute Backroom Negotiations Leave Witnesses Baffled at UN Commission on Population and Development
Observers were left scratching their heads trying to figure out what went wrong in the final few hours of the United Nations (UN) Commission Population and Development (CPD), which ended last Friday at UN headquarters in New York. After three days of marathon negotiating sessions, the UN Commission on Population and Development came together in the final plenary to adopt an eight-page text on "Health, Morbidity, Mortality and Development." Despite reassurances from governments that controversial language regarding "sexuality education" and "reproductive rights" would not be included in the final document, in the final few hours of the conference, behind closed doors, the controversial language came back into the document.

ITEM #2. Top Abortion Law Firm Says Government Funded Abortion is a Human Right
A top abortion-rights law firm recently released its conclusion that the last decade of international legal trends indicate that abortion is not only an international human right, but that government funding is part of that right. They claim that the "vicious" health care debate in the United States over abortion funding shows that the U.S. is flouting international law.

ITEM #3. Euthanasia Requests Skyrocket in Belgium; Highest Among Young Cancer Victims
After being legalised eight years ago, euthanasia is being committed more and more often in Belgium, according to a recent study by the Flemish-speaking Free University of Brussels (Vrije Universiteit Brussel or VUB). The number of requests for euthanasia has almost tripled since 2003, when 235 patients reportedly asked to be killed.

ITEM #4. Religion Good for You; Reduces Teen Pregnancies, Too
The Institute launched the campaign to coincide with Easter. Commenting on the project, Iona Institute director David Quinn said, "This campaign is unprecedented. Nothing like it has ever taken place in Ireland, or anywhere else that we know of. Its aim is to present a positive image of religion". "There are now a lot of scientific studies", he continued, "showing that religious practise has numerous beneficial effects. The aim of the campaign is to let people know about this".

ITEM #5. Pope Benedict To Push Through With Britain Visit Despite Condom Insult
The memo made fun of the Catholic Church's stand on several issues such as abortion, homosexuality and contraception... The memo suggested that Britain should asked Pope Benedict to bless an abortion clinic, officiate over a gay wedding and even launch a Benedict brand of condom.

ITEM #6. UK Woman's Sudden Death Linked to Pill
A UK bank worker who took oral contraceptives for ten years died from a blood clot that the drug apparently caused. Jenna Morris of Poulton, Wirral, died after deep-vein thrombosis developed in her legs and spread to her lungs. Before she collapsed, Miss Morris complained of shooting pains in her legs and within hours was found dead by her mother Christine at her home in Merseyside. A post-mortem showed she died of a blood clot, possibly caused by the contraceptive pills she'd been taking since she was a teenager.

ITEM #7. Sweden Permits Passive Euthanasia
Halting life-support at the request of a patient is legal, Swedish health authorities said Monday, clearing the way for doctors to agree to a heavily disabled woman's request to be allowed to die.
"A patient who wishes to discontinue treatment has a right to do so. The condition is that he or she understands the information provided by the doctor and the consequences of his or her decision," the National Board of Health and Welfare said in a statement.

ITEM #8. Economic Costs of Induced Abortion
The EUROPOP data (2004) shows that "previous induced abortions were significantly associated with preterm delivery and the risk of preterm birth increased with the number of abortions." More than 50 published studies to date, from more than twenty countries, show that induced abortion is significantly associated with preterm birth. Many large studies involving hundreds of thousands of cases show the risk of preterm birth increased with increasing numbers of abortions.

ITEM #10. The New Tower of Babel
The top several human embryologists in the world are authors of Human Embryology textbooks. It is understandable that they do not want to engage in polemics for fear of hurting their book sales. However, the amount of fake science being foisted on the public is reaching crisis proportion. These authors must now speak out and bring reason and truth back into the public discourse. In 1989 I predicted that Human Embryology would be rewritten according to political correctness. My prediction has come true. Babel has come to the world of science, and, in particular, to the world of Human Embryology.

ITEM #11. Wetzstein: Sounding alarm on gonorrhea
"We are on the verge of a highly untreatable gonorrhea epidemic," he writes. ... Gonorrhea, once in decline, has thoroughly rebounded, with more than 336,000 cases reported in 2008. It disproportionately affects young people and blacks. Untreated gonorrhea increases risk for HIV infection and can lead to infertility, among other undesirable outcomes.

ITEM #12. Swiss assisted suicide clinic Dignitas has been accused of dumping dozens of urns filled with human remains in a nearby lake.
Comment: So - this is death with dignity -burial like human waste. While the treatment of their victims is shocking, that Dignitas has done this does not surprise me. After all, they are in the business of killing human beings - they are just like criminals who kill for whatever reason and dispose of their victims like garbage in secret. How is it possible for Dignitas to have any respect for human remains. And where are the relatives of the dead? -Cheryl, CHN
