Lifeissues.net Newsletter 471

The following message was received from SPUC concerning Lesbian parentage:

London, 19 April 2010 - Making lesbian couples the legal parents of children conceived through artificial reproductive techniques is not in the best interests of children, says the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children (SPUC). SPUC was responding to news that a lesbian couple from Brighton, England, are the first such couple to sign a British birth certificate as legal parents, under changes passed by Parliament in 2008. One of the women became pregnant via a sperm donor.

John Smeaton, SPUC director, said: "Making homosexual couples the legal parents of children is not in the best interests of children. It represents a move away from the natural procreation of children to the artificial reproduction of children. Children and child-bearing are thus being instrumentalised to suit certain lifestyles. Children are precious and the natural family provides the best protection for their lives and development. British society is heading down a path of social engineering at its peril."

God Bless,

Jerry Novotny, OMI

(Quote) "People do not understand that there are thousands of women who suffer serious physical complications from abortion every year in this country." -Bernard Nathanson, M.D., Obstetrics/Gynecology

"...it hurts...some days are good days but lately my babies [aborted two] have been on my mind an awful lot. I guess because one of their birthdays would have been this month or next month. I don't even know for sure how far along I was.  The guilt just really hurts worse some days..." -[the words of a woman who experienced abortion 20 and 16 years ago] Abortion is forever...

(FOCUS ON ASIA): "In prosperous South Korea, a troubling increase in suicide rate" - The rate of suicide in most other wealthy countries peaked in the early 1980s, but the toll in South Korea continues to climb. Twenty-six people per 100,000 committed suicide in 2008 (the most recent year for which data are available). That's 2 1/2 times the rate in the United States and significantly higher than in nearby Japan, where suicide is deeply embedded in the culture.

ITEM #1. Population shrank by record 183,000 in '09

Japan's population has entered full-scale decline and shrank by a record 183,000 people over the past year, government data showed Friday. As of Oct. 1, the population stood at an estimated 127,510,000 after shrinking by a record 0.14 percent, contracting for the second year in a row.

ITEM #2. Abortion, suicide often hand-in-hand

According to Dr. David Reardon, director of the Elliot Institute, a number of studies indicate an elevated risk of suicide following an abortion. "About [one]-fourth of women who report having negative reactions to abortion will also report that they attempted suicide at least once, and suicidal thoughts are even more common," Reardon reports.

ITEM #3. Patients with amnesia still feel emotions, despite memory loss

"A simple visit or phone call from family members might have a lingering positive influence on a patient's happiness even though the patient may quickly forget the visit or phone call," Feinstein said. "On the other hand, routine neglect from staff at nursing homes may leave the patient feeling sad, frustrated and lonely even though the patient can't remember why."

ITEM #4. Targeted for termination

Currently 90 percent or more of children diagnosed prenatally with Down syndrome are "excluded" from ever shining their bright light in a lost world that has become obsessed with perfection and unrealistic traits. If the proper practice of medicine in our culture includes the skill of identifying and eliminating a prenatal twin who fails to meet the criteria of "normal," then we truly do need a massive overhaul of the "health care" system, and it is the soul of our nation that is "deformed."

ITEM #5. Irish doctor under fire for limiting fertility practice to married couples

An Irish doctor is facing possible disciplinary action because he declined to provide fertility treatment for an unmarried couple. Dr. Phil Boyle, who practices in a Catholic hospital, was questioned by the Fitness to Practice Committee about an apparent violation of the Equal Status Act, which bars discrimination based on marital status. The law offers no "conscience clause" protection. Although no action ws taken against Dr. Boyle, the couple who protested his policy may raise the issue in another legal forum.

ITEM #6. Chinese Authorities Orchestrate Brutal Sterilization Round-Up of Thousands

Chinese authorities in southern China are waging a brutal 20-day campaign to round up 10,000 men and women and have them sterilized for violating the state's birth control quotas, reports the UK Times Online.

ITEM #7. Father of Down Syndrome Child: "it is the soul of our nation that is 'deformed'"

Chloe was born with Down Syndrome. This motivated Kondrich to return to college to earn a masters degree in Early Intervention. After graduation he retired from his law enforcement career to become Director of Community / Family Outreach for Early Intervention in the Pittsburgh area. Kondrich read a news report last week about the Sarasota, Florida abortionist who lamented killing the "wrong" unborn child during a selective reduction procedure to eliminate a Down syndrome fetus. The father of Chloe and advocate for Down syndrome children could not sleep that night and got up at 3 a.m. to write the following response to the news article: Targeted for Termination.

ITEM #8. Canadian Bishops: "Catholics for Choice" is Not Catholic

The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) has reiterated that the group "Catholics for a Free Choice" is "not Catholic" and "does not represent the teachings or views of the Catholic Church."

ITEM #9. Euthanizing Children in the US - Yes, it's Here

The latest edition of a prestigious medical journal, The Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, has published a very disturbing piece of research. While the study is very small, the fact that it was done at all suggests that there might be a larger problem across the country: Euthanizing children right here in the US.

ITEM #10. The Pill's Deadly Affair with HIV/AIDS

The world's deadliest killer, HIV/AIDS, and the Birth Control Pill have been carrying on a secret and deadly "love affair" for decades. While women swallowed their "freedom" with the morning orange juice, studies that should have made global headlines yellowed in medical journals, unknown to the general public. Only doctors learned about the pills deadly affair with HIV/AIDS, and they were too busy writing prescriptions for hormonal contraceptives to talk.

More than 50 medical studies, to date, have investigated the association of hormonal contraceptive use and HIV/AIDS infection. The studies show that hormonal contraceptives - the oral pill and Depo-Provera - increase almost all known risk factors for HIV, from upping a woman's risk of infection, to increasing the replication of the HIV virus, to speeding the debilitating and deadly progression of the disease.

ITEM #11. Children in Prostitution: What to Do?

Most people will agree that a sexually exploited minor child is a victim. People also agree that many people and factors aid the victimization. They are victims of the pimps and traffickers who force them to sell their bodies. They are victims of the adults who pay to have sex with them. They are victims of the circumstances that force them to sell their bodies for necessities such as food, clothing, and shelter (also known as "survival sex"). Moreover, some are victims of their own bad judgment when they make the decision to sell their bodies for money to buy luxury items. Others are victims because they run away from home and are vulnerable to those who prey on children who hang out at the malls or are stranded at the bus stations.

ITEM #12. Women's Mental Health After Abortion

The presentation is something a little different, taking the issue of forced and coerced abortion especially and tying it in with UN documents that say women should be "fully informed" and be free from coercion or violence in making their "choice." I included all the references at end, so I hope it will be useful. The assigned topic was actually women's mental health after abortion, but one of the reasons women's mental health is impacted by abortion is that many women are aborting wanted babies.
