Pro-Life Movement Must Prepare Now to Defeat Barack Obama
One pro-life leader is concerned that the Democratic Party and the Barack Obama re-election campaign are already in high gear to elect the pro-abortion president for another four years.
Marjorie Dannenfelser, the president of the Susan B. Anthony List, says pro-life people need to get engaged now to replace the abortion advocate with someone who can give the pro-life movement a chance to roll back the pro-abortion policies Obama put in place and change the makeup of the Supreme Court to allow for legal protection for unborn children.
$86 million. That s how much money President Obama and the Democratic National Committee (DNC) just announced they raised in the last three months alone, Dannenfelser said. If we re going to defeat Barack Obama, the Abortion President, and replace him with an authentic leader for Life in 2012, we must start laying the groundwork now by building our war chest.
Nothing could be more important than electing a pro-life president in 2012. We must reverse the onslaught of anti-Life policies and go on the offensive for unborn children, she added.
Dannenfelser said she is pleased some of the Republican presidential candidates have signed the group s pledge calling for de-funding abortion and Planned Parenthood, legislation to ban abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy based on the scientific evidence showing fetal pain, and a commitment to appointing the kinds of judges who will not uphold the invention of a fictitious right to abortion. She also said pro-life issues have to be core issues in the 2012 election campaign and make it to the forefront of the presidential race. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/07/22/pro-life-movement-must-prepare-now-to-defeat-barack-obama/
Catholic Bishops in Ohio: Don t Back Komen Over Abortion Ties
After a Catholic bishop in Ohio said he wanted to direct money in his diocese away from Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation over its ties to the Planned Parenthood abortion business, the rest of Ohio s Catholic bishops are now on board.
As LifeNews reported, Most Reverend Leonard P. Blair, the Bishop of Toledo, Ohio, said numerous questions Catholic have raised about Komen prompted him and his fellow Ohio bishops to investigate and his conclusion is that Komen has Planned Parenthood connections and may support embryonic stem cell research.
Now, the Catholic Conference of Ohio has posted a statement from all of the Ohio Catholic bishops that directs Catholic parishes and schools fundraising efforts toward activities and organizations fully consistent with Catholic moral teaching. Their conclusion is that, while they support efforts to arrest breast cancer, they don t believe Komen is the best recipient of funds from Ohio Catholics.
The Bishops expressed strong, united support for research aimed at defeating breast cancer. However, some Catholic parishes and schools have inquired about lending institutional support to the fundraising efforts of Komen for the Cure. They raised concern about Komen?s association with Planned Parenthood, the new Ohio Catholic Conference statement says. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/07/22/catholic-bishops-in-ohio-dont-back-komen-over-abortion-ties/

Planned Parenthood Could Lose $64 Million in Texas De-Funding
Initial estimates of the amount of taxpayer funds the Planned Parenthood abortion business in Texas stands to lose for a bill Gov. Rick Perry signed were in the $30-40 million range. Now, one pro-life group says that number could be as high as $64 million.
The final version of the state s budget bill and the subsequent agency adjustments yielded $64.2 million reallocated away from the abortion industry, says Texas Right to Life director Elizabeth Graham. In Texas, Planned Parenthood has been dealt the greatest defeat in their 95-year history by Texas Right to Life and several heroic Pro-Life Texas state legislators.
In the State House, all eight of Texas Right to Life s amendments to redirect family planning funds away from the abortion industry passed overwhelmingly (the highest vote total the pro-abortion opposition could garner was 40 of the 150 House members), she explained. The final amendment earned 113 votes to snatch the last $9 million.
Although Graham says federal law prohibits further reductions, she says Texas state legislators ultimately cut out 37 percent of the Planned Parenthood funding the abortion business gets in Texas in what she says will be a blow that will severely hamstring the Texas abortion industry. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/07/22/planned-parenthood-could-lose-64-million-in-texas-de-funding/
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Had Pro-Life View Opposing Abortion
Reproductive rights (i.e. abortion rights) for women is like civil-rights for blacks and other minorities. To try to deny women reproductive rights is the same as trying to deny African-Americans civil-rights. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a great advocate of women s reproductive rights, and for this he was awarded Planned Parenthood s Margaret Sanger Award on May 5th, 1966.
THE TRUTH
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. certainly believed in birth-control, but all the evidence available shows he was staunchly against abortion.
One researcher writes: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., stridently denounced abortion as a form of genocide in many speeches. (Lifelines, Winter 1997, p.14 online) Dr. King did in fact receive the Margaret Sanger Award in 1966. But it is also a fact that in 1966, Planned Parenthood was still (at least publicly) anti-abortion. They were still using a pamphlet they wrote and published in 1963 titled Is Birth Control Abortion?. The pamphlet read:
Is birth control abortion? Definitely not. An abortion kills the life of a baby after it has begun. It is dangerous to your life and health. It may make you sterile so that when you want a child you cannot have it. Birth control merely post-pones the beginning of life. (Is Birth Control Abortion, Planned Parenthood pamphlet, Aug. 1963, p.1) http://www.lifenews.com/2011/07/22/dr-martin-luther-king-jr-had-pro-life-view-opposing-abortion/

Planned Parenthood Hiding Plans for Late Abortions in Virginia Beach
Wednesday morning, the Virginia Department of Health held an Informal Fact Finding Conference on Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Virginia s Certificate of Public Need (COPN) application to expand their Virginia Beach center to include two operating rooms. This hearing comes on the heels of the Department s initial denial of Planned Parenthood s request. The issue of the expansion has been the subject of media attention since The Virginian-Pilot uncovered ties between people involved with the center and Dr. Steven Brigham.
The proceedings operated much like a court hearing, in which Doug Harris, the Health Department s adjudication officer, heard testimony from counsel on both sides as well as from witnesses on Planned Parenthood s behalf. At the hearing, Planned Parenthood first claimed their expansion would be for the purpose of surgically treating conditions such as chronic pelvic pain, suspicious breast lumps, and incontinence specifically for low-income, uninsured women.
But while discussing the details of the regulatory and licensing process, Harris stated, Operating rooms [ORs] are approved in Virginia and are fungible. There are no subsets of ORs. An OR is an OR is an OR under the regulatory umbrella. If you did something outside your COPN authorizing, there s nothing we can do about it because the license is for a general OR. Harris then pointedly asked Planned Parenthood s legal counsel, Mr. Steve Rosenthal, what their intention was regarding 2nd AND 3rd trimester abortions. Rosenthal paused and then responded, There is no intent about 3rd trimester abortions.
What about 2nd trimester abortions? The attorney seemed to cleverly dodge the question and provide a glimpse into what Planned Parenthood s real motive for the expansion is more abortions. Finally, this was a shred of honesty on the part of Planned Parenthood an implicit admission of their goal to perform 2nd trimester abortions if their COPN application is approved. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/07/22/planned-parenthood-hiding-plans-for-late-abortions-in-virginia-beach/
Study Claims Telemed Abortions Safe for Women Despite Deaths
A new study conducted by a pro-abortion research group based in California claims the use of telemed abortions giving women the abortion drug without physician supervision is safe. But pro-life advocates say that s not the case.
Daniel Grossman, an assistant clinical professor in the department of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of California, San Francisco and an associate with Ibis Reproductive Health, conducted the study. He says three-fourths of the women in the study who decided to obtain the abortion drug via a Skype connection with a physician rather than after an in-person consultation, preferred not having the doctor in the room.
The study claimed 94 percent of the women who took the abortion drug with the telemedicine process were very satisfied and the study claims women had no more side effects or complications from the abortion dug who used the computer process than those who got the drug in person. However, 25 percent of the women using the webcam process said they would have preferred to see the abortion practitioner in person.
I think that our study shows that the telemedicine model is being provided quite safely in Iowa, with identical outcomes as face-to-face visits, Grossman told MSNBC about his study, which appeared in the journal Obstetrics and Gynecology. Also, this is something women really like. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/07/22/study-claims-telemed-abortions-safe-for-women-despite-deaths/
House Amdt Supports China Forced Abortion Opponent Chen Guangcheng
The House Foreign Affairs Committee unanimously approved an amendment to its appropriations bill yesterday that provides support for Chen Guangcheng, the blind attorney who has campaigned against forced abortions in China.
Chen, as LifeNews.com has repeatedly profiled, was jailed for years after officials produced bogus charges. Since his release from prison, Chen and his family have been placed under house arrest and prevented from accessing the outside world and obtaining proper medical care. Human rights groups have been pressing Chen s case with lawmakers in Congress and got help from pro-life Rep. Chris Smith of New Jersey.
Smith proposed a successful amendment in support of Chen and his wife that lawmakers added to the State Department 2012 appropriation bill, and representatives of two organization applauded the vote.
Reggie Littlejohn, President of Women s Rights Without Frontiers, told LifeNews: We congratulate Rep. Chris Smith on his leadership in sponsoring this far-reaching amendment, which urges the Chinese government to stop harassing the Chen family, to release them from house arrest, and to arrange for immediate medical treatment. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/07/22/house-amdt-supports-china-forced-abortion-opponent-chen-guangcheng/
Abortion Advocates Obsessed With Silencing Pregnancy Centers
