Report: Congress Should Probe Planned Parenthood Abortion Biz
A national pro-life group has issued a new report featuring a groundbreaking analysis of the nation s largest abortion business Planned Parenthood. Americans United for Life says it has uncovered evidence of systemic financial irregularities within the abortion giant, which receives more than $363 million in federal and state taxpayer funding, and that Congress should investigate.
AUL staff combed through 20 years of Planned Parenthood financial data and the report documents the known and alleged abuses by Planned Parenthood, including the misuse of federal health care and family planning funds, failure to report criminal child sexual abuse, failure to comply with parental involvement laws, assisting those in engaged in prostitution and/or sex trafficking, and dangerous misuse of the abortion drug RU-486.
The pro-life group poses questions aimed at uncovering the depth of the problems within Planned Parenthood and substantiates, synthesizes and gives clear direction for members of Congress to thoroughly investigate the abortion business.
Americans United for Life is calling for a Congressional investigation and hearings into the nation s largest abortion provider, AUL president Charmaine Yoest told LifeNews.com in a Wednesday statement. This report provides the intellectual foundation for an investigation of Planned Parenthood as well as revealing gaps in the information available to the American taxpayer, who is forced to subsidize the politically powerful abortion industry. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/07/07/report-congress-should-probe-planned-parenthood-abortion-biz/
Three Louisiana Abortion Centers Fail to Report Child RapeThree abortion centers in Louisiana, according to state documents, have failed to properly report instances of statutory rape to state officials, as required by state law.
The documentation comes from the state health department, according to pro-life blogger Jill Stanek, who cited information from the documents today. The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals indicates three of the seven Louisiana abortion centers Causeway Medical Clinic, Delta Clinic of Baton Rouge, and Gentilly Medical Clinic for Women all had problems.
The issues were revealed, Stanek indicates, in the court documents the state health department filed in response to a lawsuit from one of the abortion centers seeking to overturn a new state law that allows state health officials to close down abortion centers that run afoul of state health and safety laws and put women s health at risk. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/07/07/three-louisiana-abortion-centers-fail-to-report-child-rape/
Intl Planned Parenthood: 1.4M Abortion Services, UN Ups Funding
UN agencies have stepped up funding of International Planned Parenthood Federation despite an economic downturn and increasing government reticence to fund the organization over abortion.
Although governments have reduced or eliminated funding of Planned Parenthood, UN agencies are still filling IPPF coffers with grants. In 2010, UNFPA increased its contribution to over $1.6 million. The newest UN agency, UN Women, debuted on IPPF s list of donors with a contribution of over $330,000. UNAIDS gave IPPF more than $1 million. Rounding out contributions from UN agencies, the World Bank, UNAIDS and the WHO also gave over $400,000 collective, despite not contributing at all in 2009.
While UN agencies gave more, governments gave less. Government grants, which comprise 71% of IPPF s total income were down in 2010. Blaming the global recession, IPPF reported that Japan, Sweden and Germany had reduced their grants.
Most of IPPF s funding decrease was due to the Canadian government s decision not to fund the organization in 2010, a decision totaling over $5 million. The Canadian federal government is still debating IPPF s funding for 2011 and as of April, no decision on IPPF s grant application had been made. Similarly, in the US a growing number of US state governments have decided to defund Planned Parenthood. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/07/07/intl-planned-parenthood-1-4m-abortion-services-un-ups-funding/
Obama Policy Resulted in 300 Tax-Funded Abortions in D.C
For two years, the nation s capital was allowed to fund abortions with taxpayer dollars thanks to congressional Democrats passing and President Barack Obama signing into law a budget allowing the District of Columbia to do so.
Now, new documents the Associated Press obtained from the city show it paid for 300 abortions using public funds. The policy, thanks to negotiating from pro-life Speaker John Boehner this Spring, has been scrapped in favor of the long-standing ban on taxpayer funding of abortions in D.C. However, the battle is an annual one that pro-life lawmakers must fight, as abortion proponents work to reverse it each session of Congress and House Republicans have approved a bill keeping the ban.
The files AP obtained shows the District of Columbia spent $185,000 paying for elective abortions for women below the poverty level for any reason and during any point in pregnancy. The city responded to a Freedom of Information Act request from the Associated Press to obtain the figures. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/07/07/obama-policy-resulted-in-300-tax-funded-abortions-in-d-c/
House Committee Will Investigate Kagan s Role in Obamacare
The House Judiciary Committee has responded to a letter from nearly 50 House members asking for a hearing into the role pro-abortion Supreme Court Justice Elana Kagan played during her time in the Obama administration formulating Obamacare.
Kagan served as President Barack Obama s solicitor general and helped formulate the legal defense of the legislation, which pro-life groups opposed because of abortion funding and rationing concerns.
The investigation, according to a CNS News report, will examine whether Kagan is legally required to recuse herself from the cases the Supreme Court will hear that are currently in various federal appeals courts. The probe will also tackle whether she was accurate and truthful in her answers to the Senate Judiciary Committee during the hearings on her confirmation to become a Supreme Court justice.
CNS indicates House Judiciary Chairman Lamar Smith released a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder announcing the investigation.
On June 24, 2011, I received the enclosed letter from 49 Members of Congress, he said. On their behalf, I write to request relevant documents and witness interviews in order to properly understand U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Elena Kagan s involvement in health care legislation or litigation while serving as United States Solicitor General. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/07/07/house-committee-will-investigate-kagans-role-in-obamacare/
Police Apprehend, Charge Woman Who Attacked Pro-Life People
Police in the largest city in New Mexico have apprehended a woman who assaulted and injured peaceful pro-life advocates in a violent attack that occurred outside a late-term abortion business.
The woman was charged with one count of battery and one count of aggravated battery. Police have not yet released her name.
The woman claimed to be a supporter of abortion and she engaged in the attack Tuesday outside Southwestern Women s Options, a late-term abortion center where pro-life advocates have been offering information about alternatives to women headed there for abortions. The attack resulted in bloody wounds for one pro-life advocate.
According to Operation Rescue, a pro-life group working with the pro-life advocates at the abortion facility, the woman was angry and told the pro-lifers that she had once had an abortion. She then began to viciously punch and kick Bud Shaver, a former Operation Rescue intern, and a pro-life woman named Chris. The post-abortive woman used her keys as a weapon and inflicted a deep gash on Shaver s head that paramedics said required stitches.
I received a call from the Assistant Police Chief, and was informed as to the status of the investigation, Operation Rescue president Troy Newman told LifeNews after learning the woman had been apprehended. After that discussion, I was impressed at the professionalism of the Albuquerque Police and their commitment to stop violence like this in their community. We have been guaranteed that the woman will face a judge and be held accountable for her actions. We really appreciate the hard work they are doing to keep everyone safe. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/07/07/police-apprehend-charge-woman-who-attacked-pro-life-people/
Planned Parenthood Issues Abortion, Sex Guide for UN Youth Event
In advance of the UN youth conference later this month, the International Planned Parenthood Federation released two new publications on abortion and sexual rights for youth. The new documents are the latest part of the organization s larger campaign targeted at teenagers and older children.
The sexual rights guide Exclaim! calls for a cornucopia of sexuality and gender protections and entitlements under the guise of international law. Governments must respect, protect and fulfill all sexual rights for young people, the publication states.
The guide is designed as a tool to help young people become sex advocates. Although no right to sex or sexual pleasure exists in binding international documents, the guide goes through a list of human rights found in international law and explains how they can be read as sexual rights. Under the right to know and learn includes bringing an end to abstinence-only sex education programs and promoting evidence informed approaches to comprehensive sexuality education. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/07/07/planned-parenthood-issues-abortion-sex-guide-for-un-youth-event/
