Cutting Through the Spin on Stem Cells and Cloning By Michelle Johnson

"…I think most people on the street have the impression that embryonic stem cells get so much press somebody must be being cured of something somewhere. That is false. The number of human patients who have ever been cured of any disease thus far using stem cells from embryos is exactly zero. Nobody has ever been cured of even a single disease. Meanwhile, literally thousands, perhaps tens of thousands, of humans have been treated in the clinic using adult and umbilical cord stem cells – and this critical fact often gets lost in the hype."

The above quote by leading Catholic Bioethicist and Host Fr. Tad Pacholcyzk is just one of the many media myths that are debunked in the acclaimed documentary, "Cutting Through the Spin on Stem Cells and Cloning." The program airs on EWTN at 2 p.m. ET, Saturday, Jan. 14; 10 p.m. ET, Saturday, Jan. 13, and 2 p.m. ET, Saturday, Jan. 14.

Father Tad, Director of Education at The National Catholic Bioethics Center, holds a Ph.D. from Yale University in neuroscience, among many other distinctions.

This is a must-see program that you'll want to share with your family, your church and your community. It explains the science and ethics of stem cell research and cloning in easy-to-understand language.

Does the fact above shock you? There's more. Do you know where embryonic stem cells come from? Father Tad explains that the embryo "has an outer ring of cells that you can see. That outer ring will become the placenta, the support structure for the growing child. Meanwhile… there's a group of cells …that's sticking into the middle of the embryo. That's the part of the embryo that will become the baby…It also turns out that this…is the group of cells that must be violently extracted from the living, growing human embryo in order to establish an embryonic stem cell line."

You'll also find out why there is no fundamental difference between therapeutic cloning and reproductive cloning – and so much more. You need to know these facts the next time someone takes the Church to task for supposedly holding back scientific progress. Nothing could be further from the truth!

Another pro-life program you'll want to see this week, as Catholics prepare for the annual March for Life, is "Blessing of Aging." In this half-hour program, Father James Brackin of the Priests of the Sacred Heart discusses the value of life in all its stages, encouraging those of us who are growing older, to see aging as a blessing, not a curse. Airs 3 a.m. ET and 6:30 p.m. ET, Wednesday, Jan. 11.

God bless Family!
