Lifeissues.net: clear thinking about crucial issues

Dear Friends For Life,

Sorry for the delay in sending Newsletter #559. The computer broke down. Things are back to normal now. We apologize for any inconvenience. Editor.

"Reduce Hormones and Reduce Breast Cancer." The Journal Breast Cancer Research May 2010, reviewed the mounting evidence that hormone replacement in women over 50 is a key factor in causation of breast cancer. Statistics from the California teacher's study cohort showed that the a 26% reduction in invasive breast cancer resulted from a drop in hormone therapy among these women. The drop was pronominally in tumors sensitive to estrogen for their growth. It notes that as far back as 2005 the UN's International Agency of Research on Cancer classified hormone therapy as Group 1 Carcinogen for breast, cervical, and liver cancer. It notes that little of this information had been spread widely by physicians to their patients. It did note that the reason 15 million women stopped their hormone therapy in 2002 was because they found out about the risk from the 6 o'clock news. These women then called their doctors who stopped the hormones. They further note that only 19% were told of the cancer risk when such hormones were prescribed.

A study supports abortion breast cancer link. An Iranian study in the Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention showed a 60% increase in breast cancer after induced abortion. The risk was statistically significant. Other significant risks were higher education, late menopause, a family history of breast cancer in a mother or sister. Protective affects listed were full-term pregnancies and lengthy breastfeeding.

God Bless,
Jerry Novotny, OMI

(Focus on Asia): "Sex selective abortions in Taiwan" -  Sex-selective abortions in Taiwan create a serious gender imbalance, which is second only to that of China. Between 2004 and 2010, the Taiwanese gender ratio at birth was between 108 and 112 boys for every 100 girls, compared to the worldwide average ratio of around 106 males to 100 females. The government estimated that there were around 3,000 'missing' female babies each year.

ITEM #1: Contraceptive Failure Rate Chart

Thirteen percent of women using reversible methods of contraceptives will experience contraceptive failure (e.g. pregnancy) in their first year of use and 8 percent in the second year of use. Contraceptive effectivness also varies based on four socioeconomic factors: women's age, union status (e.g. married, cohabiting, not in a union), poverty status, and race or ethnicity. Of women younger than 18 years old, 21.1% experience an unintended pregnancy (contraceptive failure) in the first two years of use.

****************************************

ITEM #2: Why Contraception Matters

Greetings. This is Bishop Victor Galeone from the Diocese of St. Augustine in Florida. You're about to hear a marvelous presentation by Steve Patton, the Director of our Family Life office. Steve clearly explains why the Church's timeless wisdom dealing with marital love brings great joy to married couples and deep satisfaction to the priests who serve them. Be careful, though, this message could have a lasting impact on your life, for the better. Enjoy the presentation.

ITEM #3: Philippines losing the battle against HIV/AIDS

According to the Department of Health, HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) cases in the Philippines have surged by as much as 90% between November 2010 and November 2011. Majority of inflicted individuals acquired the virus through sexual contact (MSM/Men having Sex with Men) and sharing of needles. Mother-to-child transmission rates remain to be negligible (Tubeza 2012).

****************************************

ITEM #4: Same-sex households grow by 80 percent in the past 10 years

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the number of Americans living together as same-sex couples has skyrocketed by 80 percent over the past decade. Latest Census figures released show there were 646,464 same-sex households in the United States in 2010, compared with 358,390 in 2000. In addition, 20 percent of couples living in same-sex households last year listed themselves as married.

****************************************

ITEM #5: Scientists grow sperm in laboratory dish

Scientists have made a major breakthrough that could soon see human sperm grown in the laboratory.

****************************************

ITEM #6: Japan: Suicides top 30,000 for 14th straight year

It looks like 2011 will be the 14th straight year in which the annual suicide count exceeded 30,000, tentative statistics suggest.

****************************************

ITEM #7 Introduction & Principles of Ethics

The following ten universal principles form the foundation of civility, justice, and objectivity in cultures throughout the world. Their presence assures the possibility of humane civilization and their absence (even their partial absence) opens the path for corruption, deceit, injustice, and cultural decline.

****************************************

ITEM #8: Working with the Muslims in defense of unborn children

In working with Muslim diplomats, in becoming friends with them, even by loving them, we believe we are changing hearts and minds. And in our own - perhaps mysterious - way, we do help our beleaguered brothers and sisters. This commonly misunderstood way is the way of Christ.

****************************************

ITEM #9: "National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month" - What You Can Do

As Fox reporter Elizabeth Prann notes, "Experts say, across the globe, millions of people are trafficked each year. Hundreds of thousands of the victims are women and girls. But what surprises many - is the rate it is happening in affluent neighborhoods where minors are being turned into sex slaves."

****************************************

ITEM #10: Abortion Industry's "Mission Is To Pressure Women"

Former Employees Describe How Abortion Businesses Hide Information, Coerce Women to Abort.

****************************************

ITEM #11: The Selling of Abortion

Like most other commercial businesses, the abortion industry has a specialized sales force and a carefully defined marketing strategy. The sale force is composed of abortion counselors who "help" women decide about abortion. Their marketing strategy is to tell their clients as little as possible -- and never anything negative -- about their product.

****************************************

ITEM #12: Women Speak Out

Many people assume that if a woman or girl goes to an abortion facility, she wants an abortion. But many women and girls who have been there say that they were looking for information and help - often help to continue a pregnancy or stop someone seeking to pressure or force them to abort - rather than abortion.

Take a look at our new documentary called, "Do No Harm" it is only 24 minutes long. The video exposes abortion lies, and proclaims the truth that legal abortions are hurting women's bodies, minds and souls.
