Weekly Prayer Reflection for Summer

“My Father is at work until now, and I am at work as well.”

Labor Day
Dear Friends,
“Work is love made visible,” said Kahlil Gibran.  We think of work as drudgery, frustrating, exhausting, and indeed so often it is. But there is another way to look at labor, on this Labor Day.  God works, God labors, Jesus Christ works.  And we are privileged to work with God, co-labor with God.  St. Paul writes: “We are God’s co-workers; you are God’s field, God’s building.” (1 Cor. 3:9)
One of the many labors of love where we work with God is the healing ministry.  Doctors, nurses, pharmacists, counselors - many supported by Catholic Medical Mission Board.  And yes, let us not forget to pray for those who labor for us, but also add a prayer for those who are unemployed and seeking employment.

Almighty God, You have linked our lives with one another so that all we do affects, for good or ill, all other lives.  Guide us in the work we do, that we may do it not only for ourselves but for the common good.  Make us mindful of the rightful aspirations of other workers, and arouse our concern for those who are out of work, through our Lord Jesus Christ, Who lives and reigns with
You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.
Amen
