Dear Friends For Life,
Steve Jobs: The whole world knows and is grateful to the contributions that Steven Jobs has made to this world. He was the founder and chief brains behind much of this century's computer revolution. The following therefore is of interest to all. In 1954 Joann Schieble, unmarried, became pregnant. Her father would not let her marry the child's father. Abortion was still legal then but instead, she had the baby adopted. Paul and Clara Jobs adopted little Steven. Not every child could have a life as remarkable as Steve Jobs, but think of what the world would have lost if this child, conceived illegitimately, would have been aborted, much of today's computer revolution might not have happened.
God Bless,
Jerry Novotny, OMI
(The Difference is LIFE) "The church is a living teacher, not a dead one. . . It has not merely told this truth or that truth, but has revealed itself as a truth-telling thing. All other philosophers say the things that plainly seem to be true; only this philosophy has again and again said the thing that does not seem to be true, but is true. Alone of all the creeds it is convincing where it is not attractive." - G.K. Chesterton

(HIV/AIDS): "A Forgotten Epidemic?" - Patricia Cinderella is from Uganda. She was born a healthy baby girl, despite the fact that her mother suffered from AIDS. In Uganda, every year 1.8 million people become infected, but thanks to a new program promoted by AVSI, through education and medication, in the past ten years, roughly 4,000 healthy children have been born from mothers infected with the virus.

ITEM #1: Pregnancy, Rape, and Abortion
"We have the responsibility of finding the rapist and prosecuting him to the full extent of the law and being very firm about it," Dr. Hilgers said. "We also have the responsibility to the woman who is the victim of rape. But when 98.4% of rape victims do not become pregnant but suffer the emotional trauma of the rape, then crisis intervention and support is extremely helpful and important. More emphasis on this type of support needs to be provided."

ITEM #2: Do no harm?: Medical journals show increasing support for euthanasia
The original Hippocratic oath includes: I will apply dietetic measures for the benefit of the sick according to my ability and judgment; I will keep them from harm and injustice.
****************************************
ITEM #3: The Harms of Pornography Exposure Among Children and Young People
Exposure to pornography is routine among children and young people, with a range of notable and often troubling effects. Particularly among younger children, exposure to pornography may be disturbing or upsetting. Exposure to pornography helps to sustain young people's adherence to sexist and unhealthy notions of sex and relationships. And, especially among boys and young men who are frequent consumers of pornography, including of more violent materials, consumption intensifies attitudes supportive of sexual coercion and increases their likelihood of perpetrating assault. While children and young people are sexual beings and deserve age-appropriate materials on sex and sexuality, pornography is a poor, and indeed dangerous, sex educator.

ITEM #4: Children grow up addicted to online porn sites: Third of 10-year-olds have seen explicit images
A 'guinea pig' generation of children is growing up addicted to hardcore internet pornography, MPs were warned last night. Four out of five 16-year-old boys and girls regularly access porn online while one in three ten-year-olds has seen explicit material, a disturbing cross-party report reveals.

ITEM #5: Enough Is Enough
EIE has a three-pronged, preventative approach to create and sustain a safe, entertaining, and informative Internet environment, free from sexual predators, the intrusion of unwanted sexual material, and other harmful and exploitative online threats by....
****************************************
ITEM #6: Monstrous: Trafficking in girls
Worldwide, sex trafficking is a monstrous evil. The U.N.'s International Labor Organization estimates that about 12 million people around the planet are held in forced bondage of all sorts at any given time -- most of them women or girls coerced into the sex trade.
****************************************
ITEM #7 Mystery Aids-Like Disease Baffles Doctors
Patients' immune systems became damaged by the infection, which has been most widely reported in Taiwan and Thailand.
****************************************
ITEM #8: Civil unions and true marriage
Our marriages are not perfect. Those of us who campaign for true marriage and vote for true marriage certainly know that. Keeping marriage alive requires hard work. And it needs government support. What we are saying is that true marriage must survive for America to survive. We are saying preserve Americans' civil right of marriage if we want America to climb back from the abyss of economic decline and social decay.

ITEM #9: South Korea high court recognizes unborn's 'right to life'
The highest court in South Korea has issued a ruling recognizing the right to life of the unborn. The eight members of the Republic of Korea's court of last appeal upheld a law allowing jail time for doctors and midwives who perform illegal abortions, on the grounds that they were tasked with preserving life. The court's August 23 ruling acknowledged that, while pregnancy is a life-altering event for the mother, "the right to life is also acknowledged for the fetus."

ITEM #10: Surrogates and their discontents
There are sometimes terrible costs to surrogacy. Is it time we re-examine this novel, and largely unregulated practice?

ITEM #11: Mom Who Refused Cancer Treatment to Save Unborn Baby Recovers
Out of England comes a miraculous story of a courageous mother, 41-year-old Jo Powell, who discovered a lump on her breast days after finding out she was pregnant with first child. Powell refused to start treatment until later in her pregnancy so she would not harm or kill her unborn child.****************************************
ITEM #12: European court ruling creates 'right to eugenics'
The European Court of Human Rights says parents have the right "to have a child free from the disease."
