Dear Friends for Life,
Turkey Abortion Argument Continues: Fuel was added to the fire by Prime Minister Recept Erogan, who recently likened abortion to murder and constituted direct population control. Turkey's government is very conservative on the abortion issue and is now trying to lower the age in which abortions are legal from 12 weeks to 4 weeks. This has caused substantial opposition among pro-abortion women's groups, and there have been a number of marches and public displays by pro-abortion female groups. Abortion had been legal since 1983 until ten weeks. In recent years secular parties who had favored this law have been increasingly opposed by more rigid Muslim religious groups.
Britain - 123 IVF Babies Die: A report in the Daily Mail tells us that the British Human Fertilization and Embryology Authority has reported that over the last five years 123 in-vitro fertilization babies were aborted because the babies had been found to have Down syndrome. No details are listed of those with Down syndrome who carried their babies to term.
We ask you to remember in your prayers Pro-Life Pioneer Barbara Willke who died on April 14, 2013. Please visit www.lifeissues.org for the latest information. God Bless,
Jerry Novotny, OMI
(The Difference is LIFE) "To protect Jesus with Mary, to protect the whole of creation, to protect each person, especially the poorest, to protect ourselves: this is a service that the Bishop of Rome is called to carry out, yet one to which all of us are called, so that the star of hope will shine brightly. Let us protect with love all that God has given us!" - Pope Francis.

ITEM #1: The "Morning After Pill" and other types of "Emergency Contraception" Myths and Realities
a. What is "emergency contraception"?
b. What is the "Morning After Pill"?
c. How does the Morning After Pill work?
d. What about other types of emergency contraception? etc...

ITEM #2: The Dangers of an Aging World Wolves prowl the streets of abandoned cities. Only prostitutes are left to take care of the elderly. War is looming. This is 2013 and the global population is aging. These are only a few of the alarming anecdotes retold at a conference last week. Decades of policies to reduce the number of people on our planet have had an effect, and it is generally not a good one, report the authors of three recent books on demographics.

ITEM #3: Pepsi to begin using unlabeled, sweetness-enhancing 'mystery' ingredients developed by 'aborted fetal cells' company
Beverage giant PepsiCo has once again partnered with Senomyx, the San Diego, Cal.-based chemical company that gained nationwide attention back in 2011 for using aborted human fetal cells to develop flavor chemicals, to create even more flavor chemicals for its products. According to reports, the new "mystery" ingredients are designed to enhance sweetness of Pepsi products with less added sugar, but there is no indication they will be properly identified on product labels.

ITEM #4: HIV/AIDS, TB Rates Sap Russian Health Russia considers itself a robust member of the global community, keeping pace with heavyweights such as the United States and China. But when it comes to health, the world's largest country is more in the company of Botswana.

ITEM #5: Live To 150? It Ain't Necessarily So
[Note: I'm curious too about what happens when Avatar D's (that's us in 2045, after we've been genetically and mechanically engineered) transfer their brains into computers to become posthumans? Whose computers? Designed by whom? Programmed by whom? Owned by whom? And what if the computer batteries or hard drives freak out (or get old and rusty) -- or get hacked? Meantime, millions of children are dying of measles and malaria in Africa, and millions of adults are dying of dozens of other diseases right here in the USA. -- Dianne N Irving, Ph.D.] Pill to live to 150 Drugs that could help people to live to 150 by slowing the ageing process are being developed by scientists.

ITEM #9: The language of life: Common words and phrases to consider Language is a very important tool in discussing life, and it can lead hearts and minds toward or away from respect for life. Let's examine some of the common words and phrases that can be expressed in ways that will either minimize or emphasize the humanity of the unborn.

ITEM #10: A primer on Church teaching regarding 'same-sex marriage' No matter which way the US Supreme Court rules in the "gay marriage" cases before it the international debate over the definition of marriage will continue because that debate is, at root, about matters beyond a civil court's competence, things like the nature of human beings and the fundamental good of society. Because we Catholics are and will surely remain major participants in such a debate we should be clear among ourselves as to what our Church teaches in this area. ******************************
