40 Days For Life: DAY 39: Sad Saturdays

40 Days for Life
Dear Deacon John,

This Saturday, my family and I will be at the 40 Days for Life vigil in front of the Planned Parenthood in San Antonio, Texas.

Saturdays, by the way, are the deadliest days at many abortion centers. Some reports estimate there are up to 8,000 abortions every Saturday in the United States alone. So if at all possible, you really need to pray at your closest 40 Days for Life vigil TODAY.

If you haven't had a chance to visit a vigil during this campaign, now’s the time! Check the list of 306 locations:

Here's why your presence is needed ... and how God uses it in many ways.

Jackson, Mississippi

Encouraging news from the 40 Days for Life vigil outside the last abortion center in Mississippi (yes, it's this pink building)!

In Mississippi, an abortion appointment is a two-day process. The first day is for "counseling," and the second is for the abortion itself.

One of the vigil participants overheard two women talking outside ... and one of these women was an abortion escort.

They were lamenting the fact that many of the young women who complete that first appointment never show up for the second one! And they blamed all those people who were praying on the sidewalk.

"Praise be to God for letting me be there to overhear ... and be able to share the message that our prayers are being answered," said the volunteer. "Babies are being SAVED!"

Buffalo, New York

One of the 40 Days for Life participants was watching as a couple walked into the abortion center. The young woman was crying. "I tried to give them some info and help," the volunteer said, "but they rushed in."

About ten minutes later, they came out and started walking down the street. The woman was still in tears. They then stopped and just held each other. "I walked down to where they were and when I asked the girl if she had changed her mind, she smiled and sobbed."

"Yes," she said, "we are keeping the baby!"

"I hugged them both and gave them the pamphlets that I had," the volunteer said. "Please keep them in your prayers."

Austin, Texas

"God is good!" said one of the Austin team members.

One of the counselors had an opportunity to talk with two young women outside the abortion center. One was there for an appointment, and her friend was along for support.

The one who had the appointment was abortion-minded. But her friend was desperate to convince her not to do it. She'd had an abortion, and would try anything to talk her friend out of making the same bad choice.

The friend took an information package that included pregnancy help center contact information and other free services. But the young woman with the appointment ignored all of this and went inside.

Her friend followed her in ... and the two came out together ten minutes later. She had decided to visit one of the pregnancy help centers and get help there.

"Praise God," the volunteer said, "for more lives saved and hearts changed!"

Here's today's devotional from Carmen Pate of Truth in Action Ministries.

Day 39 intention

Pray that God will continue to bless the efforts that have gone into the 40 Days for Life campaign, as we trust Him for the results.

Scripture

Now these are Your servants and Your people, whom You have redeemed by Your great power, and by Your strong hand. O Lord, I pray, please let Your ear be attentive to the prayer of Your servant, and to the prayer of Your servants who desire to fear Your name.

-- Nehemiah 1:10-11

Reflection by Carmen Pate

Nehemiah provides an awesome blueprint for volunteers in God's service, particularly those responding to the devastation abortion has caused our nation.

Nehemiah grieved for God's reputation as he witnessed the condition of the city walls of Jerusalem. The walls were broken down which was seen by neighboring people as a sign of weakness on the part of Jerusalem's God. No wall meant no security for the city and its people.

We learn from his story that he covered every detail in prayer; inspired others to join the cause; organized others to help do the work; confronted opposition directly and turned to God when discouraged; and finally celebrated what was accomplished and gave God all the glory!

Like Nehemiah, we must acknowledge God's sovereignty as we serve Him before a mocking world. We too need to be reminded that we are "fighting" for our families. We too must have an attitude of confession and repentance before a Holy God. We must pray for strength, refute slander, and not be diverted from our work.

Like Nehemiah, we will draw attention from the enemy when we are seeking to protect the well-being of God's people. We too must stand firm and seek God's help to persevere until the task is done. We too will be victorious.

Prayer

Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in heaven and in the earth is Yours.

We pray for your continued guidance and protection throughout the remainder of this 40 day campaign. May we be steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in Your work, knowing that our labor will not be in vain. We pray in the name of Jesus, Amen.
