Obama, Democrats Say Fight for Pro-Abortion Health Care Bill Not Over
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- President Barack Obama and top Congressional Democrats say the fight to get the pro-abortion health care bill approved is not over. Though their options are now limited on how to get the bill through Congress, they continue to push the broad government-run measure.
At a town hall in New Hampshire on Wednesday, Obama said the battle for the bill is "not over."
We just have to make sure that we move methodically and that the American people understand what s in the bill, Obama said. What I will not do is to stop working on this issue because it is the right thing to do for America, Obama said. You got to let your members of Congress know they shouldn't give up.
Obama also attacked Republicans who have been standing up to the pro-abortion health care bill. You've been sitting on the sidelines criticizing what we've got, Obama said.
Also yesterday, Senate Leader Harry Reid said the Senate could not pick up the reconciliation process first -- which is a controversial idea to try to get the House to approve changes to the pro-abortion Senate bill and have the Senate back the changes (which would likely not include stopping the abortion funding) by railroading them through without opponents having a filibuster right. Tebow will not only attend the highly-respected event held in the nation's capital, but his agent, Susan Vanderlinde, confirmed to Politico that he will likely speak there.
Yes, I believe he is [slated to speak at the National Prayer Breakfast,]" Vanderlinde confirmed.
Tebow's appearance will contrast with that of Obama, who plans to attend the event as well along with several lawmakers, because he is strongly pro-life while Obama has crafted a lengthy pro-abortion record since taking over the White House.
Last week, Tebow highlighted his pro-life views when he confirmed that the Super Bowl commercial Focus on the Family plans to run will focus on his mom's decision not to have an abortion when pregnant with him.
It s something I believe in and I'll stand up for," Tebow said of his faith and pro-life views. "I'm never going to deny what I believe in just for a game. Full story at LifeNews.com

Olympic Medalist Al Joyner, Sean James Issue Pro-Abortion Reply to Tebow Ad
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Olympic Gold Medalist Al Joyner and former NFL football player Sean James have issued a pro-abortion video in response to the forthcoming Super Bowl ad featuring the pro-life birth story of college football star Tim Tebow.
Joyner, the brother of Olympic track star Jackie Joyner-Kersee, and James, who played for the Minnesota Vikings, issued the video for Planned Parenthood -- the nation's largest abortion business.
The men focus on the "respect for women's choices" in the video, meant to promote abortion in advance of the Focus on the Family ad touting Pam Tebow's pro-life "choice" to not have one.
In the video, James refers to the Focus ad featuring the Tebows and says "I respect and honor Mrs. Tebow's decision."
"My mom showed me that women are strong and wise," James continues. "She taught me that only women can make the best decisions about their health and their future." "We're working toward the day when every woman will be valued; where every woman's decision about her health and her family will be trusted and respected," James says, talking about the push to keep abortions legal.
Joyner follows and says: "I want my daughter to live in a world where everyone's decision is respected." Full story at LifeNews.com

Fake Reality Show "Bump" has Viewers Deciding Which Woman Gets Abortion
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A new Internet-based web site reality show called "Bump" is generating intense opposition and controversy. The program is a fake reality show that has viewers deciding which of the pregnant women "contestants" will kill their child an in abortion.
The show is satirical in nature and supposedly inspired by President Barack Obama's infamous speech to graduating students at Notre Dame.
The creators say they want to spark an honest discussion about abortion and plan to determine the ending of each storyline by comments and discussion from viewers.
Kathryn Jean Lopez, the pro-life editor of National Review Online, responded to the Bump show and the controversy surrounding it. "I was stuck by two things: 1) How fringe it appears I don't think this would fly on a major television network or cable channel, even HBO. And 2) how dehumanizing the whole endeavor seems," she writes.
Lopez is struck by the insensitivity towards human life the contestants display but says it mirrors reality. "There's one especially clueless-seeming gal who goes on about Starbursts. It makes it all the human lives at stake in real-life pregnancies seem so unreal. Unfortunately, the reality is all too life and death," she writes. Full story at LifeNews.com
That's upsetting to Erik Whittington, director of the youth pro-life group Rock for Life.
Our hearts and prayers go out to the Haitian people who need food, water, medicine, housing and help rebuilding. The last thing Haitians need is UNICEF s anti-life agenda of abortion," he told LifeNews.com this afternoon. "We will not let UNICEF s despicable record of using humanitarian crisis to push their anti-life agenda go unnoticed and unchallenged."
Hope for Haiti Now is the MTV campaign that features well-known artists such as Jay-Z, Coldplay, Bruce Springsteen, Sheryl Crow, Alicia Keys, Neil Young, Christina Aguilera and others. Whittington indicates it was initiated by a phone call between George Clooney and MTV Networks.
That the money would go to a pro-abortion group is not surprising given the pro-abortion bent of most Hollywood elite. Full story at LifeNews.com

Abortion Business Marie Stopes Did 920K Abortions in 43 Countries in 2009
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The Britain-based abortion business Marie Stopes International announced today that it did 920,000 abortions in 43 countries in 2009. The British equivalent of Planned Parenthood said it experienced the largest annual growth in the organization's 33-year history, according to the figures it released today.
MSI indicated most of its work takes place in developing countries and in rural areas or urban slums where is says the "need" for abortion is at its greatest.
MSI continues to expand and evolve while maintaining our principles and our commitment to quality, MSI s Chief Executive Dana Hovig bragged. Our focus on improving the quality, efficiency and impact of our programs globally has produced the third consecutive year of robust growth."
The 920,000 medical and surgical abortions represented a 56% increase on the previous year s figures.
The numbers provide additional proof of the inability of aggressive promotion of contraception to prevent abortions as MSI also distributed record numbers of contraception, birth control, and morning after pills. Full story at LifeNews.com
On Human Exceptionalism: The Crazy Idea Human Life Should be Respected
by Wesley J. Smith
An embrace of human exceptionalism does not depend on religious belief. Whether our distinctive moral characteristics flow from the processes of blind evolution, or the mind of God, or some other mechanism, the unique importance of being human can be robustly supported by a rational examination of the differences between humans and all other known life forms.
The idea that human beings stand at the pinnacle of the moral hierarchy of life should be and once was uncontroversial. After all, what other species in the known history of life has attained the wondrous capacities of human beings? What other species has transcended the tooth-and-claw world of naked natural selection to the point that, at least to some degree, we now control nature instead of being controlled by it?
What other species builds civilizations, records history, creates art, makes music, thinks abstractly, communicates in language, envisions and fabricates machinery, improves life through science and engineering, or explores the deeper truths found in philosophy and religion? What other species has true freedom? Not a one. David Oderberg gets to the heart of why humans are exceptional. Full story at LifeNews.com
British Doctor Off Medical Register for Daughter's Illegal Late-Term Abortion
London, England (LifeNews.com) -- A British doctor who evaded the law by arranging an illegal late-term abortion in Spain for her 31-week pregnant daughter has been struck off the national medical register. Saroj Adlakha reportedly paid a Barcelona, Spain abortion business 3,200 euros for her daughter's 2003 abortion.
Adlakha was charged in December 2005 of evading British law restricting late-term abortions to 24 weeks by sending her teenage daughter Shilpa Abrol for the abortion.
The physician admitted she coordinated an abortion for Abrol in Barcelona, Spain on the advice of British Pregnancy Advisory Service officials. Yet, she was never convicted because the Crown Prosecution Service dropped the charges after not being able to prove they were valid.
The General Medical Council held a hearing where Abrol told officials that she assumed her mother booked the abortion in Spain to avoid condemnation from within the Indian community in England, not because it was illegal.
Now, the Daily Mail newspaper indicates the GMC ruled Adlakha was guilty of misconduct for a "catalog of serious breaches" after she was found to have been dishonest about the abortion. Full story at LifeNews.com
