Lifeissues.net Newsletter 465

Dear Friends for Life,

China's "Demographic Divident" will soon fade. Over the past decades in China working-age people made up a large part of the population while retired and under-age people, a small fraction. The country has enjoyed an endless supply of labor along with a light pension burden. Thus its abundant labor and high savings ratio became a dynamic source of economic growth. However, it will soon face a slowly aging population beginning in 2015. After that it will have to increasingly rely on quality of its workforce rather than quantity.

Another pro-abortion myth explodes. Reporting in the journal, Public Health, Dr. Priscilla Coleman, professor at Bowling Green University, Ohio, along with Dr. Vincent Rue and Dr. Catherine Coyle debunk the fact that many women believe that abortion will contribute to maintaining a good relationship with the baby's father. They state that, "For both men and women the experience of abortion in a previous relationship was related to negative outcomes in the current relationship and further of an increase in intimate partner violence." Specifically, it found an increase of 116% of arguing when discussing future children, an increase in domestic violence of 196%, more arguments about money in 75%, about the man's relatives in 80%, about her relatives in 99%, more jealousy in 96%, and more conflict about drugs in 386%. All of these factors suggest that abortion may play a substantially greater role in the cause of many relationship problems.

God Bless,

Jerry Novotny, OMI

(Quote) "Every 38 seconds a woman lays her body down and has an abortion. She does not do it for herself, but for the convenience of those around her. She does it because she feels that she has no other choice." -- Serrin Foster, President of Feminists For Life of America

ITEM #1. Why Life Is Worth So Little in Prosperous Japan

One suicide every 15 minutes, in the most efficient country in the world. An exclusive survey analyzes the reasons. The bishop and the nuncio: there is an absence of faith in a personal God, in a people that honors eight million gods...

The history of Christianity in Japan is a history of martyrs. No other civilization in the world has shown itself more impenetrable to Christianity than that of Japan. In the past, by killing its messengers. In more recent times, by accepting it courteously, but without ever responding to it with waves of conversions.

ITEM #3. Slovak Lawmakers Reject Proposal to Inform Women That Birth Control Is Abortifacient

The Slovak parliament has rejected a proposal to require doctors who prescribed any hormonal contraceptive or intrauterine device (IUD) to inform their patients about its abortifacient effect and suggest a non-abortifacient alternative.

The bill also proposed the following measures: (1) warning labels on contraceptive packages like those on cigarettes, saying "The Pill causes abortion", (2) prescriptions for morning-after pills, as opposed to over-the-counter sale, which the country allows, (3) statistical data collection from women on whether contraceptive failure is the reason they are having an abortion and (4) links to non-profit and church groups that provide information on non-abortifacient contraceptives, to be published on the website of the Health Ministry.

ITEM #4. Despite Her Pain, She Chose Life

The video below is a very moving story about a child who was conceived as the result of a rape. But his mother, despite her pain chose life. She brought him to term and the child, Ryan, was adopted by a large family of what became 13 Children, 10 of them adopted.

ITEM #6. Holland proposes giving over-70s the right to die if they 'consider their lives complete'

Assisted suicide for anyone over 70 who has simply had enough of life is being considered in Holland.... Euthanasia has been available for the terminally ill in Holland since 2002 in cases of 'hopeless and unbearable suffering' certified by two doctors, but this would be a far bigger step.

ITEM #7. UK gives South Africa millions of condoms

The UK has donated $1.5 million to South Africa to buy condoms in a bid to combat HIV and Aids, as the nation builds up to the football World Cup. South Africa says it needs one billion condoms this year, anticipating extra demand from foreign football fans.

ITEM #8. Girl Scouts Distribute Planned Parenthood Sex Guide at UN Meeting

The World Association of Girl Scouts and Girl Guides hosted a no-adults-welcome panel at the United Nations this week where Planned Parenthood was allowed to distribute a brochure entitled "Healthy, Happy and Hot." The event was part of the annual United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) which concludes this week. The brochure, aimed at young people living with HIV, contains explicit and graphic details on sex, as well as the promotion of casual sex in many forms.

ITEM #9. Gallup Polls Finding Younger Americans More Strongly Pro-Life on Abortion

Looking at a combination of its polls from 2005-2009, just 24 percent of Americans between the ages of 18-29 support keeping abortion legal for any reason throughout pregnancy. That's less than the 26 percent of 50-64 year-olds who support all legal abortions and less than the 28 percent of 30-49 year-olds who support it. As has been the case since Roe, the oldest Americans above 65 are the most pro-life with only about 16 percent saying they support all abortions.

ITEM #10. Cohabitating on faith

Cohabitation was never up for discussion as my husband and I dated long-distance for two-and-a-half years before we exchanged nuptials.

Shortly after we said our vows, I discovered those little roommate habits, like how he squeezes the toothpaste tube from the bottom and I prefer to squeeze the middle. Cause for divorce? We have about a 6 percent less chance of that since we didn't lived together before marriage, according to a new study on cohabitation.
