Planned Parenthood and cohorts dumping "choice" rhetoric for "health care" in attempt to claim the moral high ground

"Most people don't get up thinking every morning about choice, but they do get up thinking about do they have access to the health care they need or their kids need or their family needs. This is an issue of access to health care. That's our mission, and it's been pretty sobering to see how much work is left to do."

So said Cecile Richards, President of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, who accepted the Puffin/Nation Prize for Creative Citizenship, awarded to Richards because of Planned Parenthood's "uncompromising" activism for abortion and free birth control as health care rights.

Richards was picking up on a thread being discussed more and more by pro-abortion extremists as they realize they are losing the abortion wars, as poll after poll has shown the majority of Americans now consider themselves "pro-life" rather than "pro-choice."

A June 2010 Salon.com article quotes pro-abortion extremist Nancy Cohen, 2010 winner of a Planned Parenthood Maggie Award for online journalism. After analyzing the Gallup polls, Cohen declared that it is time to abandon the rhetoric of "pro-choice," arguing that voters/people inevitably identify with "life" over "choice." "[T]he antiabortion movement seems to be winning the framing war with its 'pro-life' label," she says, while implying that those polled really have not become more pro-life, but simply prefer the word "pro-life" over the word "pro-choice."

"Even if it weren't up against 'life,' the article continues, "-- the rhetorical rock that will always beat our scissors - 'choice' has become, as Cohen writes, 'inadequate to our actual policy preferences and to the philosophical values Americans hold on the subject of abortion. It essentially cedes the moral high ground to the antiabortion movement.'"

It's an interesting concept that those who promote the unbridled killing of the most innocent among us would even entertain the concept of claiming the moral high ground. Planned Parenthood and its allies should realize by now that no amount of verbal gymnastics will make the exploitation of women and the killing of innocent children morally acceptable.

It is up to us to keep educating people about the grim reality of abortion and its impact on our society. Planned Parenthood will never win the moral high ground, no matter how much it sharpens its verbal gymnastics skills. No one can ever claim the right to kill another innocent human being, whether for the cause of "choice" or "health care," or any other far-flung ideal. Life belongs to God alone, and those who unrepentantly presume to usurp God's authority are doomed to eternal fire in the depths of hell.

Planned Parenthood official confirms its plans to require affiliates to commit abortion

Planned Parenthood officials have confirmed the intention of the world's largest abortion chain to expand its ever-growing abortion business by requiring all Planned Parenthood affiliates to make abortions available.

A December 23 Daily Caller online article quotes Lisa David, senior vice president of Health Services Support for Planned Parenthood Federation of America, saying that the organization is implementing a broad "new patient services initiative." She said that abortions will be available in at least one clinic per affiliate.

An affiliate is a corporation that operates Planned Parenthood facilities within a specific geographical area under certification from the Planned Parenthood Federation of America national office and pays dues to the national office.

Last week we brought you the story of Planned Parenthood of South Texas' upcoming disaffiliation from PPFA as a result, it says, of the requirement to commit abortions. STOPP has identified 14 other Planned Parenthood affiliates which do not currently commit medical or surgical abortions, and will be tracking them to see whether they will begin committing abortions, be merged into other Planned Parenthood affiliates that do commit abortions, or disaffiliate as the Corpus Christi affiliate has done.

The STOPP map room provides details on the business of the various Planned Parenthood facilities. Please check this link for the most recent information on local affiliates and facilities and their abortion activity in local communities.

Bringing Jesus to Planned Parenthood through Mary: The Marian nature of Christmas and the remedy to abortion

During Advent and the Christmas season we feast on the richness of scriptures and feast days related to Mary and her central role in salvation history.

In the days of Advent we hear the story of the angel Gabriel's message to the fifteen-year-old Mary that she will do the impossible through God's grace: bear a child through a virgin birth. And we witness her humble assent: Be it done to me according to your word.

We hear the story of her visitation to her elderly cousin Elizabeth, who has also done the impossible through God's grace, conceiving a child in her old age. That child, John the Baptist, is to prepare the way for the Lord, and he leaps in his mother's womb when in the presence of Jesus, growing in the womb of Mary. We hear Mary proclaim her beautiful Magnificat: My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my spirit rejoices in God my savior. For he has looked upon his handmaid's lowliness; behold, from now on will all ages call me blessed.

Of course, without Mary there would be no Christmas, and we trace her arduous journey into Bethlehem, arriving by donkey to a humble stable, where she bears the King of Kings.

Almost immediately after Christmas, we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Family, where we learn that we are called to love our spouses and our children as Christ loves his Church.

Having been absorbed in the unique centrality of Our Blessed Mother's role in Christmas and in salvation history, and all the lessons these scriptural feasts teach us about the sanctity of human life, can there be any doubt in our minds that Mary holds the key to conquering the sin of abortion?

Without a doubt, each of us is called by name today to Bring Jesus to Planned Parenthood through Mary.

Join the thousands throughout our nation who will turn to Our Lady to stop Planned Parenthood and stop abortion. Please let us know about your local activities to Bring Jesus to Planned Parenthood through Mary during this Christmas season.

Victory: Iowa Planned Parenthood affiliates to merge in the face of apparent financial mismanagement

Planned Parenthood of the Heartland issued a press release earlier this month stating its intent to absorb Planned Parenthood of East Central Iowa (PPECI) in 2011 via a merger.

Though Planned Parenthood executives said PPECI is not closing due to financial reasons in the news story coming out of Iowa, its Federal Form 990 tells another story.

Steven Brody, Executive Director of American Life League associate group Dubuque County Right to Life, expressed both jubilation and concern in a press release issued Dec. 10.

"Regardless of the spin that Planned Parenthood may issue, mergers are typically caused by affiliates not meeting financial goals and benchmarks. The smaller affiliates will be absorbed by the larger affiliates in order to keep facilities afloat. The poor turnout for free Pap tests in Dubuque last week is further evidence of the location in desperate need of customers. This proves that our campaign of peaceful, prayerful protest and educational advertising has been a success.

"Furthermore, a review of its 2009 Federal Form 990 shows that Planned Parenthood of East Central Iowa was obviously mismanaging the funds it was receiving, allocating exorbitant salary and employee compensation increases even as its revenue was falling. While revenue was declining (they ended the year in the hole at -$58,010), salaries increased from $657,840 to $1,060,100!

"This would indicate that Planned Parenthood is following its established pattern of phasing out affiliates that do not commit abortions and are therefore not profitable, in order to pour its resources into its lucrative abortion business.

"Therefore, this news also increases our concern that telemed abortions will be introduced in both Dubuque and Cedar Rapids. Planned Parenthood will attempt to streamline its operations and increase revenue at the same time, by introducing medical abortion and only needing a doctor in Des Moines to serve their affiliates via webcam.

"We call on all our friends and supporters to continue this campaign until we see Planned Parenthood's office in Dubuque closed for good!"

Congratulations to Dubuque County Right to Life and all those in Iowa who are working so diligently to oppose Planned Parenthood.
