STOPP'S SPECIAL REPORT ON PLANNED PARENTHOOD FEDERATION OF AMERICA'S 2008-2009 ANNUAL REPORT

Planned Parenthood grabs almost one million dollars per day from taxpayers; retains $63 million surplus at the end of the year

Ending the 2008-2009 fiscal year with a surplus of $63.4 million after grabbing almost one million dollars per day in government grants and contracts, Planned Parenthood Federation of America continues to gorge itself off the American taxpayer. The grand total of its annual government grants and contracts was a staggering $363.20 million.

The nation's largest abortion chain released the numbers in its 2008-2009 annual report last week.

Despite a rising outcry by the American people to defund Planned Parenthood, its government funding instead continued its steady increase, up $13.6 million from the previous reporting period and more than double the amount it received in 1999.

Government grants accounted for a full one-third of the abortion behemoth's revenues in 2008-2009.  From 1999 through 2009, Planned Parenthood has gobbled up $2.9 billion from the government trough.

Tribute to a heinous killer

Showcasing its support for abortions rained down upon babies old enough to survive outside the womb, Planned Parenthood memorializes late term abortionist George Tiller in its annual report.  "Dr. Tiller was a hero," the tribute says of the man who was famous for killing preborn babies past 25 weeks gestation and cremating their bodies on site at his Kansas killing center.  While STOPP decries the murder of Tiller, Planned Parenthood's adulation of him brings home its love for abortion without limitations.

Planned Parenthood abortion business growing

Though Planned Parenthood does not include "service" numbers in this report, it does attempt to minimize the pivotal role of abortion in its business model by saying, as in years past, that abortion compromises only 3 percent of its services.  However, as we reported in September when Planned Parenthood released its 2008 "service" figures, abortion accounted for 40.6% of its clinic income for 2008, up 6.1% over the previous year.  Planned Parenthood now owns 26.8 percent of the U.S. abortion market and continues its aggressive expansion.  Our report and analysis of Planned Parenthood's 2008 service figures can be accessed here.

We now see Planned Parenthood trending toward closing many of its unprofitable birth control centers so that it can concentrate on its extremely lucrative abortion business.

In fact, this week it was announced by the Planned Parenthood affiliate in Corpus Christi, Texas, that Planned Parenthood Federation of America is going to require all of its affiliates to commit abortions.

Read our very exciting news out of Corpus Christi later in this edition of the Wednesday STOPP Report.

Clinic income rising

For 2008-2009, Planned Parenthood reports $404.9 million in clinic income, which includes its abortion business.  This is a $30.2 million increase over the previous reporting period, and a 91.9% increase over its clinic income of $211 million in 1999.

Contributions and bequests increase

Rounding out its income increase from its top three sources, Planned Parenthood showed an increase in its private contributions and bequests, reporting $308.2 million, up $63.3 million over the previous year, and an increase of 95.4% over its 1999 contributions and bequests.  It's total income for 2008-2009 was $1.1 billion, up 5.9 percent over the previous year's $1.038 billion.

With many of the world's wealthiest people pushing the Planned Parenthood agenda of population control and abortion, it comes as no surprise that the abortion/birth control mogul finds no shortage of contributions to extend and tighten its death grip on our society.

Increased spending on sex education

Planned Parenthood continued its targeting of youth with its salacious, perverse sex education.  It reports spending $52.8 million on that pursuit, up $2.3 million from the previous year, and almost double the amount it spent in 1999 in spreading its failed sex ed programs.

Planned Parenthood's annual report is one of our greatest tools in fighting Planned Parenthood

The figures and comments provided in Planned Parenthood's annual reports have always been one of our best tools in fighting the abortion giant. Perhaps that bears on why the report was delayed 8 months this year.

Nothing speaks the truth like the numbers. When compared with previous years, they tell the undeniable story of the mega-expansion of Planned Parenthood's killing business and its constant aggressive move into our schools and our children's lives.

STOPP's founder, Jim Sedlak, realized the importance of preserving these numbers early on in his fight against Planned Parenthood, and as a result has the best database available to pro-lifers on Planned Parenthood's operations over the past decades.  If you need any assistance with PPFA numbers in your fight against Planned Parenthood, please feel free to contact us.

Use Planned Parenthood's annual reports and our comparison numbers gleaned from those reports widely in educating decision makers at all levels in order to keep Planned Parenthood away from your children, out of your pocketbook, and out of town!

The great news: Planned Parenthood of South Texas breaks ties with PPFA

In the face of so much bad news from Planned Parenthood, God has delivered a sweet gift to STOPP and the people of Corpus Christi this Christmas.

As of January 1, 2011, Corpus Christi will be PP-free! Planned Parenthood of South Texas will disaffiliate from Planned Parenthood Federation of America and change its name to Family Planning of the Coastal Bend.

As with all developments of this magnitude, there were many contributing factors:

1. Corpus Christi has a long history of intense pro-life activity, including the valiant efforts of Corpus Christi Right to Life and the Body of Christ Rescue.

2. In February, 2008, STOPP's Jim Sedlak picketed with local pro-lifers outside a Planned Parenthood clinic and announced the formation of a local effort totally dedicated to fighting Planned Parenthood. The new organization was called South Texas STOPP.

3. South Texas STOPP was very aggressive in its fight against Planned Parenthood, carefully implementing all of the facets of our plan to defeat Planned Parenthood. Among their victories:

* They got the Corpus Christi City Council to deny $30,000 in funding to PP.
* They were able to get the Nueces County Hospital District to deny $70,000 in funding to PP.
* They were able to get Planned Parenthood out of the Corpus Christi Independent School District.
* They maintained regular pickets at the PP clinics and other events.

4. In making the announcement of its disaffiliation from Planned Parenthood, PP CEO Amanda Stukenberg, long-time mouthpiece for abortion "rights" in Corpus Christi, said the decision was made because Planned Parenthood Federation of America is requiring every affiliate to do surgical and/or medical abortions.

Though Stukenberg said Planned Parenthood did not want to do abortions, there is no doubt that a major part of that decision not to do so was due to the active fight that is currently being waged against it by South Texas STOPP. Planned Parenthood leadership knew that openly committing abortions would just intensify their opposition and lead to more losses of support in the community. They are desperately trying to save their operation by renaming it Family Planning of the Coastal Bend, and dropping all association with Planned Parenthood.

This is a major victory. Planned Parenthood has operated clinics in the city since 1958. Planned Parenthood in Corpus Christi was the first Planned Parenthood in the country to get government money in the 1960s. Soon, Planned Parenthood of South Texas will be just a bitter memory.

Congratulations to the people of Corpus Christi for this hard-one victory.  We ask your prayers for them as they continue the battle to take down the struggling progeny of Planned Parenthood and the independent abortion mill that remains in their midst.

For unto us a Child is born!

God has given us the great privilege of working for the tiniest and least of his children this year, and for that we are eternally grateful.  As we near the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, we reflect on how God came to us as a Little Child to save us from our sins on that Holy Night so long ago.

May the joy of the Christ Child, our Savior, fill you and your family this Christmas, and may the peace of that Silent Night descend upon you and fill you with the great hope and expectation, resting in the assurance that He who is coming will make all things new.  From all at American Life League, we wish you a most blessed Christmas.
