STOPP'S SPECIAL REPORT ON PLANNED PARENTHOOD FEDERATION OF AMERICA'S 2008-2009 ANNUAL REPORT Planned Parenthood grabs almost one million dollars per day from taxpayers; retains $63 million surplus at the end of the year Ending the 2008-2009 fiscal year with a surplus of $63.4 million after grabbing almost one million dollars per day in government grants and contracts, Planned Parenthood Federation of America continues to gorge itself off the American taxpayer. The grand total of its annual government grants and contracts was a staggering $363.20 million. The nation's largest abortion chain released the numbers in its 2008-2009 annual report last week. Despite a rising outcry by the American people to defund Planned Parenthood, its government funding instead continued its steady increase, up $13.6 million from the previous reporting period and more than double the amount it received in 1999. Government grants accounted for a full one-third of the abortion behemoth's revenues in 2008-2009. From 1999 through 2009, Planned Parenthood has gobbled up $2.9 billion from the government trough. Tribute to a heinous killer Showcasing its support for abortions rained down upon babies old enough to survive outside the womb, Planned Parenthood memorializes late term abortionist George Tiller in its annual report. "Dr. Tiller was a hero," the tribute says of the man who was famous for killing preborn babies past 25 weeks gestation and cremating their bodies on site at his Kansas killing center. While STOPP decries the murder of Tiller, Planned Parenthood's adulation of him brings home its love for abortion without limitations. Planned Parenthood abortion business growing Though Planned Parenthood does not include "service" numbers in this report, it does attempt to minimize the pivotal role of abortion in its business model by saying, as in years past, that abortion compromises only 3 percent of its services. However, as we reported in September when Planned Parenthood released its 2008 "service" figures, abortion accounted for 40.6% of its clinic income for 2008, up 6.1% over the previous year. Planned Parenthood now owns 26.8 percent of the U.S. abortion market and continues its aggressive expansion. Our report and analysis of Planned Parenthood's 2008 service figures can be accessed here. We now see Planned Parenthood trending toward closing many of its unprofitable birth control centers so that it can concentrate on its extremely lucrative abortion business. In fact, this week it was announced by the Planned Parenthood affiliate in Corpus Christi, Texas, that Planned Parenthood Federation of America is going to require all of its affiliates to commit abortions. Read our very exciting news out of Corpus Christi later in this edition of the Wednesday STOPP Report.
Clinic income rising For 2008-2009, Planned Parenthood reports $404.9 million in clinic income, which includes its abortion business. This is a $30.2 million increase over the previous reporting period, and a 91.9% increase over its clinic income of $211 million in 1999. Contributions and bequests increase Rounding out its income increase from its top three sources, Planned Parenthood showed an increase in its private contributions and bequests, reporting $308.2 million, up $63.3 million over the previous year, and an increase of 95.4% over its 1999 contributions and bequests. It's total income for 2008-2009 was $1.1 billion, up 5.9 percent over the previous year's $1.038 billion. With many of the world's wealthiest people pushing the Planned Parenthood agenda of population control and abortion, it comes as no surprise that the abortion/birth control mogul finds no shortage of contributions to extend and tighten its death grip on our society. Increased spending on sex education Planned Parenthood continued its targeting of youth with its salacious, perverse sex education. It reports spending $52.8 million on that pursuit, up $2.3 million from the previous year, and almost double the amount it spent in 1999 in spreading its failed sex ed programs. Planned Parenthood's annual report is one of our greatest tools in fighting Planned Parenthood The figures and comments provided in Planned Parenthood's annual reports have always been one of our best tools in fighting the abortion giant. Perhaps that bears on why the report was delayed 8 months this year. Nothing speaks the truth like the numbers. When compared with previous years, they tell the undeniable story of the mega-expansion of Planned Parenthood's killing business and its constant aggressive move into our schools and our children's lives. STOPP's founder, Jim Sedlak, realized the importance of preserving these numbers early on in his fight against Planned Parenthood, and as a result has the best database available to pro-lifers on Planned Parenthood's operations over the past decades. If you need any assistance with PPFA numbers in your fight against Planned Parenthood, please feel free to contact us. Use Planned Parenthood's annual reports and our comparison numbers gleaned from those reports widely in educating decision makers at all levels in order to keep Planned Parenthood away from your children, out of your pocketbook, and out of town! |
