Democrats Fight Back on ObamaCare Repeal, Some Will Support It
Democrats are already fighting back on the expected vote on a measure that would repeal the ObamaCare law that causes abortion and rationing concerns for pro-life groups.
But, some conservative and moderate Democrats who were reluctant to support ObamaCare the first time around appear ready to back the repeal measure the House will consider on January 12.
After announcing their target date for a vote in the full House and posting the text of the two-page repeal bill online, Democrats came back with a letter to pro-life incoming House Speaker John Boehner saying he should consider how parts of the health care takeover law are supposedly popular with Americans, who have consistently opposed the law and favor repeal.
The incoming House Republican majority that you lead has made the repeal of the federal health care law one of its chief goals, the letter to Boehner said. We urge you to consider the unintended consequences that the law s repeal would have on a number of popular consumer protections that help middle class Americans.
Sen. Harry Reid, the abortion advocate who is the top Democrat in the Senate, signed the letter along with pro-abortion Democratic Sens. Chuck Schumer of New York, Dick Durbin of Illinois, Patty Murray of Washington, and Debbie Stabenow of Michigan.
If House Republicans move forward with a repeal of the health care law, the group promised to block it in the Senate. Full story at LifeNews.com
Supreme Court Justice Scalia: Roe v. Wade Not in Constitution
Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia frequently talks about his views on abortion and the high court case that allowed for unlimited abortions throughout pregnancy for any reason.
As the nation looks to mark the 38th anniversary of Roe v. Wade later this month and 53 million abortions it has ushered in, Scalia said in a new interview that the case is an absurdity.
You want a right to abortion? There s nothing in the Constitution about that. But that doesn t mean you cannot prohibit it, he said in an interview with California Lawyer.
For those wanting to make abortion legal, Persuade your fellow citizens it s a good idea and pass a law. That s what democracy is all about. It s not about nine superannuated judges who have been there too long, imposing these demands on society.
Scalia reiterated his position that the Constitution s 14th Amendment doesn t guarantee equal protection for women in a way that could be construed as allowing abortion on demand. Full story at LifeNews.com
Abortion Advocates Bemoan Repeal Vote, Abortion De-Funding
The head one of the leading abortion advocacy groups is already complaining about House Republicans and the vote they scheduled for next week to overturn abortion-funding ObamaCare.
NARAL president Nancy Keenan doesn t like that effort and is upset that GOP lawmakers will follow that vote with one on legislation to ensure the ObamaCare law does not allow for any funding of abortions with taxpayer money.
Keenan complained that incoming Speaker John Boehner isn t waiting for a swearing-in ceremony before he begins attacking.
In addition to next week s vote to repeal the health-reform law, Boehner also scheduled a vote on a separate resolution urging committees to make changes to health-care laws, which could include a Stupak-like ban on abortion coverage, she griped. Full story at LifeNews.com
Pro-Abortion New York and Nevada Governors Get Catholic Mass
The newly-minted governors of New York and Nevada have received a Catholic Mass in their honor and the events are coming under fire from pro-life Catholics.
Andrew Cuomo and Bob Duffy, the new governor and lieutenant governor of New York, celebrated Mass at Albany s cathedral, where they received a glowing homily from Bishop Howard Hubbard as Sandra Lee, described by the New York Daily News as his live-in girlfriend, sat in the front pew, according to the New York Daily News.
We know they, over the next four years, will be deeply immersed in the work of evangelization by bringing about the transformation of our state and our society, and we assure them of our prayers, of our support and of our best wishes for challenges they will face, Bishop Hubbard said.
Though Cuomo and Duffy both support legalized abortion, Cuomo received Holy Communion at the Mass, which upsets Thomas Peters, a Catholic Vote official who writes at American Papist, a popular blog. Full story at LifeNews.com

New UN Maternal Health Commission May Promote Abortion
Last week the UN announced the members of a new commission to enforce its guidelines on women s and children s health.
The commission is supposed to make transparent the $40B going to the Secretary General s new Global Strategy for Women s and Children s health, announced last September at the UN summit on the Millennium Development Goals (MDG).
Among the strategy s and the commission s, main goals is to prevent 33 unwanted pregnancies by 2015.
The question is, will that prevention include abortion?
If the make up of the commission and the website launching it are any indication, it will. The president of Women Deliver, Jill Sheffield, is on the commission. That organization has hosted two UN-backed conferences explicitly aimed at ensuring that abortion is included in any UN definition of maternal and child health. Full story at LifeNews.com
Schedule: Pro-Life Pence May Run for Governor, Not President
Congressman Mike Pence of Indiana may be preparing for a bid to become the next governor of Indiana as opposed to joining what is expected to become a crowded presidential campaign.
Pence is a darling for the pro-life community because he has been a strong pro-life champion solidifying his credentials behind legislation that would revoke hundreds of millions of dollars in taxpayer funds sent to the Planned Parenthood abortion business.
Although Pence has already won a straw poll with social issues votes and is liked by fiscal conservatives as well, his schedule makes it appear he may not announce a presidential run but, instead, launch a campaign for governor to replace potential presidential hopeful Gov. Mitch Daniels. Full story at LifeNews.com

Give Parents Perinatal Hospice Option Instead of Abortion
No parent wants to be faced with the news that his or her child will be born with a terminal illness. For a family receiving this diagnosis, this news is chilling and heavy.
Many mothers and fathers find themselves in this situation after they receive the results of a prenatal test; they are then given the option to either continue the pregnancy with routine medical care or to terminate the pregnancy. But there is a third option: perinatal hospice.
With perinatal hospice, families are given the gift of time to truly cherish the life of the child and allow him or her to be a part of their family, even if it is for a short time. Full story at LifeNews.com
Catholic Bishops of Chile Oppose Weakening Abortion Ban
The Catholic bishops in Chile have issued a new statement opposing any effort to weaken the pro-life laws that protect women and unborn children.
The South American nation protects unborn children before birth from any abortions but a bill pending in the nation s legislature would legalize abortions in some cases.
According to the Catholic News Agency, the bishops released a statement on December 28 through the Bishops Conference of Chile saying there is never a justification for an abortion and that it is never medically necessary for women. Full story at LifeNews.com
Seventh Walk for Life West Coast Marks Abortion Opposition
Tens of thousands of people are expected to rally in downtown San Francisco to mark the 38th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision that allowed virtually unlimited abortions.
The marchers participating in the West Coast Walk for Life will then walk along San Francisco s waterfront to show peaceful support for unborn children and their mothers because women deserve better than abortion. Full story at LifeNews.com
Virginia Bill Would Create Wrongful Death Statute for Unborn
Fresh from a victory in the last legislative session with its Baby Bill, the pro-life Family Foundation is moving ahead with legislation that would create a wrongful death statute for unborn children.
The Baby Bill closed a loophole in Virginia s law that previously allowing for killing a child moments after death and the group says it hopes to take the protection of life one step further this year.
Delegate Bob Marshall, a Republican from Manassas, and Senator Jill Holtzman Vogel, a Wichester Republican, are behind HB 1440 and a yet-to-be-numbered Senate bill that would provide protection for the unborn in cases where they lose their life due to negligence of another. Backgrounds of New Wichita Kansas Abortion Practitioners Cause Alarm
Two abortionists who are each planning to open abortion clinics in Wichita sometime later this year may pose a hidden danger that could be easily underestimated by Kansas authorities and the public, including possibility that they will neglect to report cases of suspected child sexual abuse.
Mila Means and Gregory S. Linhardt both have very recent and troubling personal problems that have been shown to bleed over into the professional lives of other abortionists with similar problems. More red flags wave over the fact that they are both in training at a notoriously seedy abortion mill with an elderly abortionist who has a sketchy past. Full story at LifeNews.com
