Senate to Vote Thursday on De-Funding Planned Parenthood
The next step in the battle to de-fund the Planned Parenthood abortion business came when pro-life House Speaker John Boehner forced pro-abortion Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid to do something he swore he wouldn t do: allow a vote. The Senate will vote on Thursday.

House Republicans have already approved the Pence Amendment to yank tens of millions of dollars from the abortion business that it receives under Title X. Now, it s the Senate s turn and pro-life groups like Americans United for Life are urging senators to vote for de-funding.

This is the vote that Washington, DC insiders said we d never get, and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid swore he would never allow, AUL said.

Brian Burch, President of CatholicVote, told LifeNews.com his group would hold any senators political accountable for voting against the amendment.

Any Senator who votes to continue taxpayer support for scandal-ridden Planned Parenthood will be a prime target of our election efforts in 2012. These votes will have consequences. If Senators want our support, they must earn it. And if they fail us, we will do everything possible to defeat them, he said.

Kristan Hawkins, the president of Students for Life of America, added: Just two months ago, experts were telling me that getting a vote in the Senate would be impossible, and I shouldn t even hope for it, and said that Planned Parenthood funding cause the budget impasse between Democrats and Republicans was a victory.

Think about this, she said. Our efforts were so effective that the disagreements over Planned Parenthood funding between the pro-life House and pro-abortion Senate leadership almost caused a government shutdown. Full story at LifeNews.com

Obama Refused Boehner Demand to Cut Planned Parenthood Funding
New reports issued today on the exchanges between pro-abortion President Barack Obama and pro-life Speaker John Boehner show Obama refused to agree to Boehner s demand to cut Planned Parenthood funding.

For over an hour on Friday, Boehner kept lobbying Obama to agree to some kind of funding cut. However, according to Bloomberg News, after Obama agreed to reinstate a ban on taxpayer funding of abortions in the District of Columbia, he refused to cut any taxpayer disbursements to the abortion business.

Nope, zero, he told Boehner when the pro-life Speaker asked him how much he would cut from Planned Parenthood.

Bloomberg also indicates pro-abortion Vice President Joe Biden told Boehner the Obama administration was prepared to take the battle to voters and allow a shutdown of the federal government over Planned Parenthood funding.

Boehner asked Obama again, to which Obama responded, Nope. Zero. John, this is it. After that, the New York Times says one participant told it there was a long awkward silence following the exchange where everyone had a facial expression as if to say, What do we do now?

The answer was for Bohener to get pro-abortion Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid to go back on a promise he made to not allow a vote on de-funding Planned Parenthood. With no vote originally planned on the Pence Amendment, securing one to go along with the DC abortion funding ban was a victory. Full story at LifeNews.com

Romney Forms Exploratory Committee for GOP Presidential Bid
Former Massachusetts governor and 2008 Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney took the first step today towards a second run for the presidency by announcing he is forming an exploratory committee.

Romney follows pro-life businessman Herman Cain and pro-life former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty in announcing an exploratory committee. Like Pawlenty, he took advantage of using new media to reach voters by releasing a video on his web site to make his announcement rather than holding a traditional speech-giving event.

It is time that we put America back on a course of greatness, with a growing economy, good jobs and fiscal discipline in Washington, Romney said in the video, recorded in New Hampshire, the second primary election battleground.

From my vantage point in business and in government, I ve become convinced that America has been put on a dangerous course by Washington politicians, and it s become even worse during the last two years, Romney said in the web video. But I m also convinced that, with able leadership, America s best days are still ahead. Full story at LifeNews.com

Pence, Planned Parenthood President Duel After Budget Deal
Following the budget deal that forced Senate Democrats to hold a vote soon on revoking the taxpayer funding the Planned Parenthood abortion business receives, leading pro-life Rep. Mike Pence and its president Cecile Richards are sparring.

Democrats caved on the issue of abortion late Friday night despite facing enormous pressure from pro-abortion groups to hold the line on taxpayer funding of abortion and Planned Parenthood funding.

Republicans and Democrats agreed to a budget deal with less than two hours to spare before the federal government engaged in a partial shutdown. The deal restores language that prohibits federal taxpayer funding of abortions in the nation s capital that President Barack Obama and Democrats removed in a previous budget. The deal also requires something Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid said he would never allow a vote in the Senate on revoking funding for the Planned Parenthood abortion business.

Pence appeared on ABC s This Week show on Sunday morning to talk about the deal and the Planned Parenthood battle.

Let me say, first off, it s nonsense to say that Republicans were willing to shut down the government over this. Speaker John Boehner made it clear that the policy issues, including my amendment on abortion providers, had been negotiated, at the time that I think it s in The Washington Post this morning, he explained. What was clear here is that this administration and liberals in Congress were willing to shut the government down to continue to fund abortion providers in this country. That s the bottom line. Report: Many Catholic Colleges Have Ties to Planned Parenthood
A Catholic educational watchdog group released a new report today detailing the more than 150 connections various Catholic colleges and universities have with the Planned Parenthood abortion business.

The report, titled A Scandalous Relationship: Catholic Colleges and Planned Parenthood, shows the current and past connections of Catholic colleges and universities to Planned Parenthood as documented on the Internet. In the report, the Cardinal Newman Society urges Catholic colleges and universities to embrace a no-tolerance position for any relationship with Planned Parenthood, which CNS asserts is a leading contributor to what Pope John Paul II labeled a culture of death .

CNS, in the introduction to its report, says it has exposed links to Planned Parenthood for 18 years and, Although today we are beginning to see some movement toward a renewal of Catholic identity in Catholic higher education, serious problems remain.

Current public attention to Planned Parenthood the largest abortion provider in the United States, responsible for extensive promotion and distribution of contraceptives prompted us to perform a simple, public search of the websites of Catholic colleges and universities, it said. Despite the Catholic Church s unambiguous teaching on abortion and contraception, we discovered referrals to Planned Parenthood for health services, internships and fellowships with Planned Parenthood, seemingly boastful disclosures of employees past work with Planned Parenthood, and other ties to this and other pro-choice organizations.

The problems are spread across dozens of institutions, with occasional concentrations at highly secularized institutions like Georgetown University and Seattle University, two leading Jesuit institutions, the group indicates. Full story at LifeNews.com

40 Days for Life Now Up to 346 Babies Saved From Abortions
With just 7 days left in the spring campaign, we are now aware of 346 babies whose mothers have turned away from abortion that we know of!

Here are just a few of the stories about those babies saved that I have received from local 40 Days for Life teams in 247 locations worldwide.

WILMINGTON, DELAWARE

Several 40 Days for Life volunteers were praying in front of Planned Parenthood, including some children who were kneeling. After a while, a young woman came out of the building and began to speak with the mother of one of the girls kneeling in prayer.

The young woman asked what was going on, and the volunteer explained, telling her that they offer support and information to women who are thinking about abortion. After some discussion, the young woman decided to keep her baby. She and the volunteer then went straight to the nearby pregnancy resource center.

Please pray for this young woman, said Paula in Wilmington. She is very poor, homeless and has very little support. She has also been mistreated by her boyfriend. Full story at LifeNews.com

American Express in Planned Parenthood-Twitter Controversy
American Express found itself in the middle of controversy today when it sent, and subsequently withdrew, a tweet on Twitter expressing support for the Planned Parenthood abortion business.

Scarlett Johansson supports Planned Parenthood and you should too, the official American Express Twitter account said Monday afternoon. STD testing/treatment, breast exams, birth control

Shortly after the tweet went out and pro-life advocates on Twitter started complaining, American Express sent out a subsequent message making it appear foul play or a mistake was involved.

FYI We did not send out the tweet re: Planned Parenthood. We are working with Twitter to investigate, it said.

Corporate officials are reportedly working to determine how the tweet was sent but it appears possible that a staff member accidentally sent out the Tweet from the corporate account instead of a personal account. The official account appears to make updates on Twitter using a variety of methods from accessing Twitter directly to third party applications. As frequently happens in some applications, Twitter users can send a tweet from the wrong account if more than one account is used by the same application. Full story at LifeNews.com
