House CR Cuts Abortion Funds, UNFPA, Population Control Money
House Republicans have unveiled the language of the long-term Continuing Resolution and are giving the pro-life community more good news when it comes to de-funding abortion and pro-abortion groups. The deal pro-life Speaker John Boehner arranged late Friday night allows for the reinstatement of the ban on funding abortions in the District of Columbia, which is projected to save the lives of approximately 1,000 unborn children annually who may have otherwise become victims of taxpayer-funded abortions. The deal also forced the Senate to allow a vote on revoking the taxpayer funding of the Planned Parenthood abortion business, something pro-abortion Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid previously said he would not allow.
Today, in unveiling the language of the Continuing Resolution for fiscal year 2011, House Republicans have made further cuts that are sure to please pro-life advocates. Meanwhile, Reps. Diane Black (R-Tennessee) and Martha Roby (R-Alabama) have co-sponsored an enrollment correction resolution essentially the language that will be added to the bill to de-fund Planned Parenthood and on which the Senate will vote.
The House is expected to consider the FY11 CR and two enrollment corrections, the one de-funding Planned Parenthood and a second to add language to defund the Obamacare health car bill, on Thursday. If all three bills pass the House, as is expected, the Senate will likely consider them before the current temporary CR expires on Friday.
However, Republicans added more cuts in the long-term resolution as one section cuts funding to the pro-abortion UNFPA (United Nations Family Planning Agency) that has worked hand-in-hand with Chinese population control officials who have enforced the one-child rule with forced abortions and other human rights abuses. Republicans trimmed funding for the agency from the $55 million President Barack Obama put in place to $40 million.
The bill also cuts international population control and family planning funding to $575 million from the $648 million Congress authorized in 2010. This is important because, thanks to Obama s decision to revoke the Mexico City Policy, some of this funding goes to abortion businesses like Planned Parenthood and Marie Stopes International, which do abortions in other nations and lobby other countries to legalize or expand legal abortions. This cut ensures fewer taxpayer dollars will flow to these organizations to advance abortion on an international scale. Full story at LifeNews.com
Speaker Boehner Notes Pro-Life Support for New Budget Deal
Stopping abortion funding in the nation s capital, a vote in the Senate on de-funding Planned Parenthood, and cutting taxpayer funding of population control groups those are some of the benefits of last Friday s budget deal.
Today, Speaker John Boehner noted those benefits and thanked various pro-life groups for their comments in support of those votes and the benefits Boehner s negotiating obtained.
The comments provided by these leaders in the pro-life community provide a positive boost for the agreement which, while falling short of what truly must be done to protect innocent, unborn life, prohibits taxpayer funding of abortion in D.C. and allows the fight for life on other fronts to continue, he said.
Boehner added that the deal is good but vows more needs to be done to protect innocent, unborn life. Full story at LifeNews.com
Bob Casey Will Vote Against De-Funding Planned Parenthood
The office of Pennsylvania Sen. Bob Casey, who claims to be a pro-life Democrat, has confirmed he will not vote for an amendment to de-fund the Planned Parenthood abortion business.
Speaker John Boehner forced pro-abortion Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid to allow a vote this week on an amendment that would strip Planned Parenthood of the Title X family planning funds it receives from the federal government. While pro-life organizations say such money should not be sent to a business that does abortions, Casey disagrees.
When Bob Casey defeated Rick Santorum for a Pennsylvania seat in the Senate, pro-life advocates hoped Casey would vote the same as his predecessor and his pro-life father, former Governor and stalwart pro-life Democrat Bob Casey, Sr. But, the younger Casey has consistently opposed pro-life efforts to divert federal tax money from the abortion business.
In September 2007, Casey voted for a pro-abortion amendment sponsored by Sen. Barbara Boxer seeking to overturn the Mexico City Policy, which prevents international family planning funds from going to Planned Parenthood and other groups that perform and promote abortions overseas. Casey voted for the Boxer amendment and his spokesman, Larry Smar claimed Casey was taking a consistent position opposing abortion funding but funding abortion groups.
He does not support public funding of abortion, Smar said at the time. The amendment he voted for would not allow public funding of abortion, which is illegal under another provision. Full story at LifeNews.com

Planned Parenthood Spent $1M on Democrats in 2010, 600K Lobbying
Most of the focus over the last few days concerning Planned Parenthood has been on whether it would received federal funding, but new figures on its election and lobbying expenses show it spending heavily.
Figures from the Center for Responsive Politics are getting new attention and they show Planned Parenthood spending more than $1 million on pro-abortion candidates last year all Democrats.
The organization s political action committee, for example, donated more than $148,000 to federal candidates almost all Democrats during the 2010 election cycle. The PAC spent more than $443,000 overall, the Center noted. Planned Parenthood also recorded $905,796 in independent expenditures during the 2010 cycle money spent in support of, or in opposition to, federal political candidates, largely through advertisements. The top beneficiaries of this money were Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) and Patty Murray (D-Wash.).
Meanwhile, the Center indicates Planned Parenthood maintains a well-funded lobbying effort in the nation s capital and Planned Parenthood, more so than any other abortion rights organization, has the money to fight for its abortion business interests, with the Center adding the organization s overall political efforts typically exceed those of any single group that opposes abortion rights. Two Women Victimized by Botched Abortions at NAF Centers
As the National Abortion Federation prepares for its annual conference in Chicago this week, one of its former board members sent two women to the hospital in separate botched abortion incidents. Two women were transported for emergency care in one day from the Affiliated Medical Services abortion business located at 1428 North Farwell Avenue in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The condition of the two women is currently unknown. Operation Rescue officials informed LifeNews about the two incidents, which took place on Friday less than two hours apart.
The first ambulance arrived with sirens blaring and lights flashing at about 10:50 a.m. OR indicated. The pro-life participants in a 40 Days for Life prayer vigil witnessed the incident and one person recorded it on his telephone video recorder. Dan Miller, Milwaukee coordinator for 40 Days for Life provided Operation Rescue with the raw video.
After some time, emergency workers emerged from the abortion center with a woman on a gurney as abortion facility escorts held up a blanket or dark sheet to hide the incident from the pro-life witnesses who were documenting it. The woman was rushed to Columbia St. Mary s Hospital.
At approximately 12:55 p.m., the second ambulance arrived, this time without lights or sirens. The video shows an ambulance of a different color and parked in a different place, leaving no doubt that there were two separate incidents. Again, clinic escorts held up a dark sheet to conceal the woman on a gurney that was loaded into the awaiting ambulance and taken to an unknown location. Full story at LifeNews.com
DC Mayor Vincent Gray Arrested Protesting Abortion Funding Ban
Vincent Gray, the mayor of Washington, DC, was arrested along with three dozen pro-abortion activists on Monday for protesting the budget deal in Congress that will result in banning taxpayer funded abortions in the District of Columbia.
Gray s opposition is part of the position he took campaigning for the position saying he would vociferously protest anything that stood in the way of D.C. autonomy. As a result, he and 41 pro-abortion activists were arrested for blocking traffic outside the Dirksen Senate Office Building.
I am tired of being a pawn in a political game, Gray said, egging on the crowd of more than 100 people. This is an absolute travesty.
D.C. Council Chairman Kwame Brown and several other council members joined Gray and they held signs and shouted outside the congressional offices. We deserve to be free, Brown screamed. Stay out of our pocket. Stay out of our business.
Other members like Tommy Wells said, We are not a bargaining chip. We have rights that aren t for sale, that can t be sold down the river, and accused pro-abortion Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid of selling out. Full story at LifeNews.com
Pro-Abortion Groups Claim Funding Battle Ups Fundraising
There s nothing like the having the ability to tell your donors and supporters that the sky is falling to drive up fundraising numbers and generate more money from supporters.
The old adage in fundraising that bad news, complaints and attacking the other side of a political issue is much more financially effective than focusing on good news and praising people is apparently proving true again for groups like NARAL and Planned Parenthood.
According to a new Politico report, the battle over de-funding Planned Parenthood, which both pro-abortion organizations have exploited to raise money, has been bringing in big bucks for both outfits. Online donations to the Planned Parenthood abortion business have reportedly increased 500 percent since the funding battle began while NARAL told the news web site its email list has grown by 1,000 people a day during that time.
Cecile Richards, the president of Planned Parenthood, said that had Republican lawmakers been focusing only on cutting family planning funds they wouldn t have outraged Planned Parenthood activists as much as focusing on the abortion business.
If the federal budget proposal had simply said, We re going to eliminate family planning funding, I don t think people would have been as concerned, she told Politico. Full story at LifeNews.com
