Values Voters Bus Tour Promotes Pro-Life Values in GOP Race
At least two Republican presidential candidates will join three social conservative organizations to promote pro-life and values issues in Iowa leading up to the Ames Straw poll.
The Family Research Council, the Susan B. Anthony List and the National Organization for Marriage are teaming up for the Values Voter Bus Tour that will cover 1,305 miles in four days with events in 22 cities that will take the participants to 47 of Iowa s 99 counties.
Tim Pawlenty and Rick Santorum, the former Minnesota governor and Pennsylvania senator, are two of the pro-life GOP presidential candidates who will join the groups on the tour and Rep. Michele Bachmann,, a pro-life congresswoman from Minnesota, may join as well. Reps. Steve King of Iowa and Louie Gohmert of Texas, both pro-life Republicans, will participate and join FRC s president Tony Perkins, SBA president Marjorie Dannenfelser, and NOM s Brian Brown along with other pro-life and pro-family leaders.
Faith Family Freedom Fund Chairman Connie Mackey will kick off the tour next Monday at the Iowa state capitol in Des Moines and conclude at the Ames Straw Poll on August 13.
President Obama is the most pro-abortion President in United States history, Dannenfelser said of the reason for the tour. He has shown a willingness to shut down the federal government in order to keep Planned Parenthood funded with tax payer subsidies and even threatened individual states for exercising their Tenth Amendment right to de-fund the organization at a state level. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/08/03/values-voters-bus-tour-promotes-pro-life-values-in-gop-race/
Massive Fraud Case Against Planned Parenthood Moving Forward
A pro-life legal firm is pressing on with a lawsuit it has filed on behalf of a former employee of the California affiliate of the Planned Parenthood abortion business alleging he was fired for exposing massive fraud.
Last year, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit reinstated the lawsuit filed by a former vice president of a Planned Parenthood abortion business affiliate in California. The case details allegations of massive fraud where the abortion giant overbilled state officials.
P. Victor Gonzalez says the abortion business fired him because he raised concerns about illegal practices of overcharging the state hundreds of millions of dollars on birth control. The former Planned Parenthood official filed a lawsuit in March 2008 but, in January 2009, a federal district court judge dismissed the case and Gonzalez filed an appeal. Represented by the American Center for Law and Justice, Gonzalez is now considered a federal whistleblower and
Gonzalez says his own internal audit estimates that Planned Parenthood overcharged California taxpayers for purchasing birth control by at least $180 million. He was the vice president of finance and administration for Planned Parenthood of Los Angles and, according to a Los Angeles Times report, the overbilling began in the late 1990s.
Today, Jay Sekulow, the chief counsel for the ACLJ, said the pro-life legal group is moving forward with our aggressive strategy against Planned Parenthood. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/08/03/massive-fraud-case-against-planned-parenthood-moving-forward/
Obama to Americans: Check Your Abortion Conscience at the Door
The press s misnomer of the year, free contraception, is being compounded by a supposed religious employer exemption offered by Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) on Monday in its preventive services regulation. HHS disregarded the conscience concerns of many Americans, bypassed significant requirements of Administrative law, and severely muddied the truth when it mandated effective immediately that health insurance plans (with few exceptions) provide coverage for the full range of FDA approved contraceptives without a co-pay!
First, nothing in life is free. Removing co-pays from contraceptives does not mean these drugs and devices are cost-free. Rather, the payment for them is simply shifted. Under the HHS mandate, the payer is now everyone: conscientious objection or not.
Second, while the Left has already begun to employ its tired Catholic-baiting (painting the issue as one solely of Catholics opposing government-imposed payment for birth control ), by mandating coverage for the full range of FDA approved contraceptives, HHS has posed a conscience problem for many Americans who do not object to contraception in the true sense of the word. But, sadly, several drugs and devices labeled by the FDA as contraceptives have life-ending mechanisms of action. This includes ella, a drug that can kill a human embryo even after implantation.
Thus, without dismissing the conscience concerns of Catholics and others who oppose paying for contraception per se, it must be acknowledged that FDA approved contraceptives include abortion-inducing drugs and devices offensive to a far greater segment of the American population. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/08/03/obama-to-americans-check-your-abortion-conscience-at-the-door/
Mitt Romney Still Faces Questions Over His Pro-Life Stance
The National Catholic Register is out today with a lengthy profile of former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and whether he can truly be considered pro-life on the issue of abortion. The question haunts him now as it did in the 2008 presidential election.
The fact that Romney is unable to shake the question of the sincerity of his pro-life beliefs is a twofold problem.
First, it s a problem for Romney that, no matter what he does, he is unable to convince a good portion of the majority of Republican voters in early battleground states like Iowa ad South Carolina who are pro-life, that he is one of them. There are conservative Republican voters who are resolute in their decision not to support Romney s candidacy and it makes it so Romney will have to rely on the losing strategy that failed to earn him the nomination in 2008 winning Michigan and early western states with heavy Mormon populations and attempting to win New Hampshire. If Romney is unable to convince voters in Iowa, South Carolina and Florida that he is pro-life enough, the second time may not be a charm.
The second problem is for the pro-life movement that some pro-life people are so skeptical of converts. The pro-life community can engage in a good faith debate over whether Romney s conversion on abortion is political or authentic but the debate makes it so any pro-abortion politician who converts to the pro-life perspective will likely face scrutiny over whether the decision is made for political gain or is heartfelt. That makes it tough for the movement to win converts if potential converts know they will face such strong skepticism that they will still not be viewed as friends by pro-life voters. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/08/03/mitt-romney-still-faces-questions-over-his-pro-life-stance/
Facts Don t Matter to Media Matters: Ella Drug Causes Abortions
In its attempt to debunk the claim that an abortion drug is included in the preventive services mandate from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Media Matters ignores a glaring fact: ella a drug that is chemically similar to the FDA-approved abortion drug RU-486 is included in the mandate.
Unlike Plan B, which is a progestin-based drug, ella is just like RU-486 a selective progesterone receptor modulator (SPRM). This means that though indicated as contraception, ella works the same way as RU-486, not Plan B.[1] By blocking progesterone, a hormone necessary to build and maintain the uterine wall, ella and RU-486 can kill an already-implanted human embryo.
Put another way - ella can abort a pregnancy, no matter whose definition of pregnancy is used.
When the FDA approved ella, it did not make any assurance that it would not disrupt a pregnancy. In fact, the FDA said that ella may affect implantation.[2] The FDA chose different language when it approved Plan B, saying it may prevent implantation but explicitly stating that once an embryo implanted, Plan B would not terminate the pregnancy.[3] http://www.lifenews.com/2011/08/03/facts-dont-matter-to-media-matters-ella-drug-causes-abortions/
Protest Stops California Planned Parenthood Abortion Biz, For Now
The protests by local pro-life advocates against Planned Parenthood s attempt to open a new facility in Redwood City, California have been successful so far in preventing the abortion business form starting up.
The new center will not do surgical abortions but will do abortions with the dangerous abortion drug that has killed dozens of women worldwide, 14 in the United States (including one woman in San Francisco), and has injured at least 2,200 women in the United Sates alone as of April 2011 FDA figures. Pro-life advocates in the Bay Area area are working to stop the Planned Parenthood abortion business from opening up a new center and a dispute over parking is working so far.
Redwood City officials have already signed off on the new center, but the city s planning department sent a letter in July saying it has amended the permit issued allowing it to open the abortion business at 2890 El Camino Real. Planned Parenthood had initially obtained an agreement from the Enterprise Rent-A-Car company across the street for it to provide the center with the additional parking necessary to meet city requirements as the location only has 18 of the 27 spaces the city requires for the facility.
However, Enterprise is backing down thanks to a local protest organized by pro-life advocate Ross Foti, who says he and other pro-life residents informed Enterprise they would picket the company if it provided the spaces to Planned Parenthood. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/08/03/protest-stops-california-planned-parenthood-abortion-biz-for-now/
Legacy of Population Control: 163 Million Missing Women
163 million women are missing from Asia. That is the entire female population of the United States.
The culprit is sex selective abortion according to Mara Hvistendahl s fascinating book Unnatural Selection: Choosing Boys Over Girls, and the Consequences of a World Full of Men. Hvistendahl is not pro-life nor is she Catholic, but that is what, I believe, makes this book courageous. Of course in typical pro-choice fashion, she refuses to address the facts of when human life begins, but she does tackle the sacred cows at the root of the devastation that now faces Asia: widespread abortion and the population control movement of the West.
What I loved most about this book is that it goes beyond the typical reasons why Asians are aborting their girls in record numbers. We know they have a preference for boys and China has a one-child policy. But Asia has always prized their sons and only China has a one-child policy. Yet all over Asia, in the last few decades, millions of girls have gone missing.
Why? Hvistendahl makes a compelling case that the Western world shoved population control down the throats of Asians and presented sex selective abortion as the ethical means to do it. The typical arrogant and fearful Western minds thought they had to control the growth of Asian populations and reasoned that if Asians kept having children until they got a boy, then providing sex selective abortion was the answer. They could just abort all their girls until they got a boy and then they would be happy with only one child.
