180 Movie on Abortion Reaches 1 Million Views
The movie 180, the Ray Comfort-produced documentary that shows how asking questions about Nazi, Germany can spark a change of heart in people s minds on the issue of abortion, has reached 1 million viewers.
Since its official launch three weeks ago, the film has been viewed more than 1 million times on YouTube and the Facebook page associated with the documentary has catapulted to over 22,000 people. The film hit the 500,000 view mark on October 3 and hasn t let up since.
The documentary is popular because it is just 33 minutes in length and it shows the conversations Comfort, a pastor, had with people who admit they are now looking at abortion in a new light after discussing the issue with him.
Comfort tells the Christian Post newspaper that the film has become so popular he had had requests to translate it into 19 different languages and ten different television networks have plans to air the film in the coming weeks and months. More than 135,000 copies of the DVD have been sold to pro-life groups and individuals and Comfort says 200,000 copies of the DVD will be distributed to 100 different college and university campuses on a single day soon.
It s the Church that will turn the tide against abortion in America, he tells the Post. Kay Arthur, Randy Alcorn and I worked on a 180 Course to help equip Christians to learn the principles used in the film. It s a two-part, training course for all churches, groups, and individuals, so they can not only save temporal lives, but reach the lost. It will turn a church 180 degrees toward the least and the lost. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/10/18/180-movie-on-abortion-reaches-1-million-views/
Planned Parenthood President: My 400K Salary a Non-Issue
Cecile Richards, the president of Planned Parenthood, gave an interview to a newspaper in Oregon during a recent trip there to support a local affiliate of the abortion business. During the interview, Richards defended her exorbitant salary, saying it is a non-issue.
The Willamette Week newspaper asked her, In the efforts to defund Planned Parenthood, a lot was made of your salary close to $400,000 per year. Planned Parenthood declined to comment on it. Why?
It s public record. It always has been, Richards responded. I work hard for my salary, and I think that s a red herring. Planned Parenthood is the most cost-effective provider of family planning services in this country. The far right has done everything they can to undermine us and to create non-issues, which I think that is.
The high salary is not surprising given that the abortion business makes more than $1 billion in income. First achieved in its 2006-2007 fiscal year, the abortion business now regularly brings in more than $1 billion. That s because the abortion business, that year, was doing more abortions than ever before. Its annual report showed an increase in the number of provided abortions from 264,943 in 2005 to 289,650 in 2006. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/10/19/planned-parenthood-president-my-400k-salary-a-non-issue/
Right to Life President: Komen Tied to Abortion Industry
The president of the National Right to Life Committee has penned a new column in which she says the Susan G. Komen for the Cure breast cancer foundation is tied to the abortion industry by virtue of its support for Planned Parenthood.
Carol Tobias writes in Legatus, the magazine for Catholic business professionals, that it is natural for Americans to want to help Komen because of the connection most people have to breast cancer, which affects hundreds of thousands of women on an annual basis.
Almost everyone in America knows a woman who has had breast cancer. Some of those beloved friends and family members may have died from it. So when an organization like Susan G. Komen for the Cure conducts fundraising projects for research, it s difficult to say no, Tobias writes. We re encouraged to help by buying a certain brand of yogurt or a certain soft drink. Pink ribbons pop up on products everywhere. We can buy items we would normally buy and feel good about helping find a cure.
But Tobias questions the connection between Komen and Planned Parenthood. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/10/19/right-to-life-president-komen-tied-to-abortion-industry/
Court: Woman Who Killed Baby in Infanticide Can Remain Free
The Supreme Court of Canada has ruled it will not hear an appeal of a case that received international attention in September, which saw a woman who strangled and killed her newborn baby released and facing no jail time.
Katrina Effert of Wetaskiwin, Alberta gave birth secretly in the downstairs level of her parents home and then killed her baby son by throwing his body over the fence of their yard. Effert, 19 at the time of the infanticide, told the court she worried about what her parents would think of having to listen to the cries of a newborn baby in the house. Effert s parents were not aware of the pregnancy and she initially told police she had not had sexual intercourse.
The boy was named Rodney and Effert reportedly used a pair of her own underwear to strangle him and take his life before tossing his body into her parents neighbor s yard.
Effert received a three-year suspended sentence from Justice Joanne Veit of the Alberta Court of Queen s Bench and, because of the ruling, she was able to go free on probation and face no time in prison for killing her child. Judge Veit issued the verdict in part because she heard testimony from witnesses that Effert faced sever persecution in prison, where fellow inmates called her baby killer.
Prosecutors for the state appealed the decision, but the nation s high court dismissed the appeal of the decision by the Alberta Court of Appeal to overturn the initial conviction of second degree murder. The decision, released on October 13, did not contain any information given as to the reason for the dismissal, according to a QMI Agency news report. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/10/19/court-woman-who-killed-baby-in-infanticide-can-remain-free/
San Francisco OKs New Law Attacking Pregnancy Centers
The San Francisco Board of Supervisors gave initial approval Tuesday to a new law that would target pregnancy centers in the city that help women find abortion alternatives.
Supervisor Malia Cohen and City Attorney Dennis Herrera have spent months on an ordinance that would, if passed, require the pro-woman centers to disclose whether they are abortion alternatives agencies that, supposedly, don t provide comprehensive health care. The pair have made erroneous claims that the centers are engaging in misleading counseling and advertising.
They say the legislation came about because of complaints about First Resort, a pregnancy centers that operates locations in San Francisco, Oakland and surrounding areas. The San Francisco Chronicle indicates Herrera sent a letter to First Resort claiming that its advertising methods are misleading by making women believe it does abortions, because they try to compete with abortion centers in purchase links at Google for searches on abortion.
The board initially approved the proposal on a 10-1 vote and Supervisor Malia Cohen, chief sponsor of the legislation told the San Francisco Chronicle that the bill is intended to protect consumers of pregnancy-related services by prohibiting limited-service pregnancy centers from knowingly disseminating false or misleading advertising information about the services they provide. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/10/19/san-francisco-oks-new-law-attacking-pregnancy-centers/
Rejecting Abortion: When a Mother Gives Her Life for Her Child
What mother can t understand the fierce desire to protect her child? If anyone even looks at my kids wrong, I m ready to protect them with my life.
Moms understand the ferocity that comes out of nowhere. It doesn t matter if your child is two years old or thirty-two. But the story of Stacie Crimm s selfless determination to protect the life of her unborn baby girl goes far beyond the average mom s commitment.
At 41, Stacie Crimm was shocked beyond belief to learn she was expecting her first child. This was probably the biggest surprise blessing of her life, especially since doctors had previously said she would never be able to conceive.
Unfortunately, just a few months later, she was diagnosed with head and neck cancer, and Stacie was presented with the most difficult dilemma a mother can face: She could either undergo chemotherapy to save her own life or she could forgo the treatment to save the life of her baby. Needless to say, this was an extremely painful decision no mother ever wants to make.
Of course, like any mother, Stacie s intimate bond with her child was more important than life itself, literally. Stacie made the decision to spare the life of her child and, tragically, died on September 11 of this year. Thankfully, she did live long enough to hold her tiny baby girl, Dottie Mae, in her arms. This mother truly exemplified the courage of womanhood by offering the ultimate sacrifice for her child. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/10/19/rejecting-abortion-when-a-mother-gives-her-life-for-her-child/
Indiana Planned Parenthood Won t Stop Abortions to Get Tax Funds
The Indiana affiliate of the Planned Parenthood abortion business says it will not stop doing abortions in order to get state taxpayer funding that Indiana officials want to cut off to the abortion business.
Indiana officials, in documents it sent to the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals, which will hold a hearing Thursday on the state s law de-funding Planned Parenthood, say the abortion business could continue to receive taxpayer dollars if it would split itself into two entities, one doing abortions and another that only engages in family planning for which the funds are intended.
Planned Parenthood wants no part of such a split pointing to other states where lawmakers worked to revoke taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood even after such a split.
Roger Evans, senior director for public policy for Planned Parenthood nationally, told AP, They re looking for every little tactic they can use.
Ken Lembrecht, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood of North Texas, another state that has cut off funding to the abortion industry, told AP, They want to put providers of safe abortion care out of business, and they will do so however they can. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/10/19/indiana-planned-parenthood-wont-stop-abortions-to-get-tax-funds/

Mainstream Media Attacks Show Pro-Life Movement Winning
If criticism from the mainstream media is a good barometer of pro-life progress, then by all accounts pro-lifers are having an excellent 2011. The Washington Post, the New York Times, and other mainstream media outlets have granted supporters of legal abortion significant amounts of column space to bemoan the progress pro-lifers have made at the state level. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/10/19/mainstream-media-attacks-show-pro-life-movement-winning/

Death of IndyCar Driver Dan Wheldon Shows No Respect for Life

Pro-Life Leaders Meet for Asia-Pacific Congress in Kazakhstan

It is located between Russia and China, and has only about 15.5 million people, giving it a very sparse population density indeed, far less than Utah, Nevada, or Arizona. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/10/18/death-of-indycar-driver-dan-wheldon-shows-no-respect-for-life/
