Slowly but steadily word is spreading about crisis pregnancy centers. Young women are learning that help is available to them so they can choose life for their babies. Word is also spreading about the deplorably unsanitary conditions in many abortion facilities, about the involvement of those facilities in human trafficking, and about the willingness of many abortion clinic staffers to cover up cases of rape or incest. We can therefore anticipate many young women who would have gone to abortion centers will turn instead to CPCs. That's very welcome news, but it means CPCs' resources will be further stretched. Here is a chance for you to help.

These centers have done amazing work over the past couple of decades. They are to be found all over the country and far outnumber the abortion clinics. They are staffed by volunteers. They deserve our unqualified support.

Some clerics and religious, in cooperation with Catholics For Life, are organizing a fund-raising walk in support of these institutions. Regardless of where you live you can sponsor a walker of your choice ONLINE and have the money you pledge go to your favorite crisis pregnancy center. Better still YOU can sign up to be a walker and invite people to sponsor you. Just click the click to walk button below, fill out your name and some relevant info, then click the proceed button and your name will appear in the drop down list of walkers that potential sponsors will see. Simple as that.

The walk will take place in Elk Grove park on Saturday October 29th. Walkers may start their walk anytime between 7am and 11am. That Saturday comes just after the end of 40 Days for Life in Sacramento. It also coincides with the end of Pro Life Month (October), during which month our bishops have asked us to treat of the Pro Life issues from the pulpit.

If you are a religious of any denomination (bishop, priest, Rev., deacon, brother or sister) and have other commitments for the morning of Oct. 29th, we have a solution! You may designate someone to walk in your stead. The name of your SUB will appear alongside yours in the list of walkers. So, whether you walk yourself or have a SUB do the walking for you, all you do in the weeks prior to the walk is promote it from the pulpit, let your people know you will be walking, ask them to sponsor you online, and make sure the website address is in the bulletin, or whatever you publish.

If you want to sponsor a walker but would rather use a check, please make it payable to Catholics for Life. Include a note containing the name of the walker you wish to sponsor and the name of the CPC to which you wish to donate the funds. Mail it to: Catholics for Life, P. O. Box 156, Carmichael, Ca. 95608.

Sacramento Bishop Jaime Soto to lead 'walkathon' to raise money for crisis pregnancy centers

News from Catholics for Life

When a young woman accepts the help of sidewalk counselors and decides to keep her baby, the next step usually is to take her to a place like the Sacramento Life Center. It is one of thousands across the country that provide help to those women in need.

These centers have been doing amazing work for decades now, saving babies and helping mothers. They are often referred to as “the Underground Railroad of the pro-life movement.” So effective are they that they have significantly reduced “business” for abortion providers like Planned Parenthood.

Naturally, they have come under attack from those abortion providers. So to show our support for them, Catholics for Life is holding a walkathon on Oct. 29 in Elk Gove Park, 15 miles south of Sacramento.

Sacramento Bishop Jaime Soto will lead dozens of priests, deacons, sisters and notable laypersons walking at Elk Grove Park, at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29, (two days before Halloween). Bishop Soto will also lead a prayer invocation at St. Joseph Parish by the park.

The 2011 Northern California Pro-Life Walk-a-Thon is taking pledges now at www.TheLordBeWithYou.com to support CPCs (crisis pregnancy centers) throughout the Sacramento diocese. You may sign up to pledge or to be a walker. (Link provided below.)

You can designate which CPC your donation will support:
A Woman's Friend, Marysville
Bishop Gallegos Maternity Home, Sacramento
Living Well, Grass Valley
Mother Theresa Maternity Home, Placerville
Sacramento Life Center

Patrons need not attend the event to pledge donations.

All donations can be arranged on the Internet, or pledges may be mailed.

If you want to sponsor a walker but would rather use a check, please make it payable to Catholics for Life. Include a note containing the name of the walker you wish to sponsor and the name of the CPC to which you wish to donate the funds.
