Chen Guangcheng: Obama Admin Abandoned Me, Wants to Leave China
Following early reports that the United States and China struck a deal for Chen to reportedly stay in China, the forced abortion opponent says the Obama administration has abandoned him and he now seeks help in leaving the country.
Chen was reportedly pressured to leave the U.S. Embassy and accept the deal the United States struck with China to release Chen from its temporary protection.
Chen has left the U.S. Embassy and headed to a local hospital for medical treatment following his years of house arrest by family planning and Communist Party officials. Chen Guangcheng, the Chinese forced abortion opponent, was reportedly pressured to leave the U.S. Embassy and accept the deal the United States struck with China to release Chen from its temporary protection. Congress to Hold Hearing on Chen Guangchang, Obama Admin Defensive
Members of Congress will hold an emergency hearing Thursday on the situation regarding Chinese forced abortion opponent Chen Guangcheng, who has been at the center of a diplomatic feud between the U.S. and Chinese over the past week.
The Congressional-Executive Commission on China, chaired by pro-life Congressman Chris Smith, announced an emergency hearing on the recent developments, set for Thursday afternoon.
The recent escape of self-trained legal advocate Chen Guangcheng from illegal house arrest has attracted international attention and concern, a hearing notice said. On April 22, Chen escaped from his home in Dongshigu village, Linyi city, Shandong province, where he and his family had been detained without charge for 19 months. Boehner to Obama Admin: Stand Up for Oppressed, Not Oppressor
House Speaker John Boehner issued a statement in response to reports showing the Obama Administration released forced abortion opponent Chen Guangcheng from the U.S. Embassy despite threats against him and his family.
Like millions of other Americans, I have followed the story of Chen Guangcheng with admiration for his courage and concern for his safety and that of his family, Boehner said. Rescuer of Chen Guangcheng Still Missing in China
He Peirong is a petite woman with a spine of steel. I know her because she spearheaded the movement to free Chen Guangcheng inside China, while I have played a similar role in the U.S. and Europe. That s where the similarity ends. I have advocated for Chen in complete safety. Peirong, however, has been beaten and detained repeatedly for this extremely dangerous undertaking. Now, she is detained again, for rescuing Chen.
How did Chen escape? The Chinese Communist Party clamped down on him as hard as it could. His house was surrounded by 66 guards working in three shifts 22 guards every eight hours. His village was sealed off by yet more guards. His phone, computer and television were confiscated. He was completely shut off from the outside world. Pro-Abortion Groups Silent on Forced Abortions, Chen Guangcheng
As the Associated Press and LifeNews.com reported earlier today, Chinese human rights activist Chen Guangcheng was reportedly pressured to leave the U.S. Embassy in China, where he had been seeking refuge, and accept a deal struck by the United States and the Chinese government.
Chen became a target of the Chinese government after repeatedly exposing the forced abortions and forced sterilizations taking place under the One Child Policy.
