Our problems individually and as a nation involve politics and government, but are at the root deeply spiritual. We need God’s spiritual solutions to what are spiritual problems. A National Day of Repentance has been formed to begin to address this spiritual need.
To trigger God’s healing in our lives and in our nation at this perilous time the Holy Spirit is today quickening the souls of many believers in Christ to take time to be with the Lord, to pray, to humble ourselves, to repent, individually and for our nation. The positive value of repentance, to take a higher Godly path, to build intimacy and joy with the Lord, to watch for His miracles, is being rediscovered. Many are choosing to focus on one key day to do this, timed to coincide and to give honor to the roots of our Christian faith and the most sacred day on the calendar of Israel, the Day of Atonement. [Leviticus 16:29-31].
At the grassroots, in communities across the country, now in 35 States and 4 other nations, a nonprofit, nondenominational group focusing on the value and power of repentance in a nation’s destiny has formed. The National Day of Repentance is set for sundown September 25-sundown September 26, 2012. A website provides support: www.dayofrepentance.org
Individual fasting, prayer, taking the day off work to show the God we serve instead of mammon, time alone with God, praying silently at a place of government, prayer-walking your neighborhood, participation in a church or ministry service– time to do a spiritual inventory with our Creator–-to repent and to observe His forgiveness-- these will mark all or a portion of the 25 hours beginning twenty minutes before sundown in each community on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 and concluding on Yom Kippur, Wednesday, September 26, forty minutes after sunset. Seek the Holy Spirit as to an outline of a program for your group or church during all or a portion of this key day. Join with other churches in your community if possible.
Our Founding Fathers understood the power of repentance and declared Days of "Fasting, Prayer and Humiliation" as a key spiritual tool to establish and preserve this nation. When the Revolutionary War looked most bleak, John Adams, asked if he believed we could nonetheless defeat Great Britain, said: "Yes, if we fear God and repent of our sins." National days of prayer, fasting and repentance were then held; Divine Providence then established and blessed this nation.
This is a spiritual hour of decision, unique in our lifetime. Are we a nation blessed under the living God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Yeshua/Jesus or not? It is a holy day for those of us in the body of Christ to choose which God we will serve, Deuteronomy 30:16. It is a day to mobilize His body to repent and choose Him. Beginning at sundown, September 25, thousands will turn to prayer and repentance on a day set aside to pray to move His Heart for this nation He helped birth as a bastion of His Liberty, a light to all nations.
"If My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves, and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land." 2 Chronicles 7:14.
