Reason #25 to Defeat Barack Obama:
A Media that's Part of Team Obama
 A pro-life candidate usually has two foes: His opponent and the media.
To win, he -- and his supporters -- have to work twice as hard.
This year the two-on-one is the media and Barack Obama vs. Mitt Romney.
This series of Reasons to Defeat Barack Obama has established that Obama holds extreme, radical positions on abortion, views that are completely out of step with the beliefs of most Americans.
But the media, whose job is to report the facts impartially, refuse to report in detail on Obama's views and record on abortion, even though they've made an issue of Mitt Romney being pro-life. And when one of Obama's more extreme positions is criticized, the news media often "fly cover" for Obama by minimizing or distorting his actions, or by giving credence to Obama excuses and explanations that don't match his actual record.
If you hadn't heard it from the Right to Life movement, would you even know that Obama voted against a ban on partial-birth abortion? Would you know that he recently opposed a bill to ban abortion for sex-selection? Would you know that as an Illinois state senator, he opposed bills to protect babies who are born alive during abortions?
And here's something that few know even to this day: Obama actually spoke up to defend the professional honor of the abortionists -- suggesting an abortionist could be trusted not to deny emergency treatment to the a baby who he was in the process of trying to kill, if that baby was born alive!
Click here to hear what Obama said on the floor of the Illinois State Senate in 2002 (the audio is from an article by John McCormack of The Weekly Standard) during debate on SB 1663, a bill to require the presence of a second physician -- a physician other than the abortionist -- to take care of a baby born alive during an abortion.
Take note that Obama's only concern was that enactment of the second-physician requirement might "burden the original decision of the woman and the physician to induce labor and perform an abortion." Lest anyone still be unclear that he was perfectly willing to leave the baby -- born under terrible circumstances and struggling for life -- to the exclusive tender mercies of the doctor hired to kill, Obama said, "It's important to understand that this issue ultimately is about abortion and not live births."
Obama also opposed another bill, the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act (BAIPA), which would have ensured that all babies born alive during abortions were regarded as legal "persons" with full legal protection. In a 2001 speech on the Illinois State Senate floor, Obama said "what we're really saying is, in fact, that they are persons that are entitled to the kinds of protections that would be provided to a -- a child, a nine-month-old -- child that was delivered to term," which was a correct description of the bill -- and he opposed this, because he thought it infringed on the "right" to abortion. Keep in mind that the bill applied only to babies that were completely outside of the mother, and alive.
In 2003, State Senator Obama, as a committee chairman, personally presided over the killing of a version of BAIPA that was copied from a federal BAIPA that passed the U.S. Congress without a dissenting vote. Obama's extreme position was criticized during the 2008 presidential race. Obama said that NRLC was "lying" about his record, but FactCheck.org that it was Obama who was misrepresenting the facts about his 2003 vote. Still, most of the news media actively defended Obama -- giving credence to excuses that were inconsistent with the plain language of the bills and with his documented statements and actions.
Thus, to this day, few Americans know that the President was a key opponent of bills to guarantee legal protection and the right to care and treatment to babies born alive during abortions -- laws that might have saved the lives of at least some babies struggling for breath, struggling for life, and lessened the sufferings of others.
If the media won't do their job, we must. Every one of us who wants a future for the unborn babies who are being killed because of Barack Obama's policies, needs to do all he or she can to defeat Obama and elect a pro-life Administration on November 6th.
