Reason #46 to Defeat Barack Obama:  Not Presidential

Maybe they’re getting tired and stressed as they’ve fallen further behind Mitt Romney in national polls, but verbal blunders continue to haunt the president and vice president.

And some of them are getting nasty.

Barack Obama, interviewed in Rolling Stone magazine, rudely and falsely paraphrased a six year-old girl as having said a vulgar word – one more appropriate to a locker room or back alley than a public utterance of a president.

Meanwhile, Joe Biden, never to be outdone in the verbal gaffes department, told an audience in Marion, Ohio about ads his opponent was running “here in Iowa.”

Actually, it’s OK if Joe Biden thinks it is Administration policy that each state gets more than one name.  After all, his boss, President Obama, once bragged during the 2008 campaign “I’ve now been in 57 states, I believe, one left to go.”

That 58th state is always the hardest.  You can’t get there by land, sea or air.

Joe Biden had another verbal run of the mouth in his Marion, Ohio speech.  According to the Columbus Dispatch, Biden turned a baby’s cry during his speech into an ad-lib attack on Mitt Romney.

“I don’t blame that baby for crying,” Biden was quoted as saying, “you know what, she just realized what it means if Romney get elected.  It’s OK, he’s not going to get elected, you’re going to be OK.”

The baby’s cry is reminiscent of another cry at a very public event, the 1996 debate on the Senate floor to override Bill Clinton’s veto of the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act.  Then-Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) was pleading on the floor for protection for these babies’ lives.

“Where do we draw the line?” Santorum asked.  “Some people have likened this procedure to an appendectomy.  That’s not an appendix.  That is not a blob of tissue.  It is a baby.  It’s a baby.”

A Washington Post article picked up the story from there.  “And then, impossibly,” the Post wrote, “in an already hushed gallery, in one of those moments when the floor of the Senate looks like a stage set, with its richly wooden desks somehow too small for the matters at hand, the cry of a baby pierced the room, echoing across the chamber from an outside hallway.

“No one mentioned the cry, but for a few seconds no one spoke at all.”

Barack Obama wasn’t there to hear the baby’s cry, but he opposed a ban on partial-birth abortions as a member of the Illinois State Senate just a year later, in 1997, and he has never renounced that position.

And when the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the federal ban on partial-birth abortion in 2007, Obama attacked the Court for the decision – and soon thereafter, he co-sponsored a bill that would make partial-birth abortion legal again.

A candidate’s verbal gaffes might be forgiven, but when elected officials vote for abortion, babies don’t get a second chance.  They die.

That’s why you and I, working through the National Right to Life Victory Fund, need to defeat Barack Obama on November 6thYou can be an important part of this final drive to elect a pro-life president, vice president and Congress to give those babies who cry out for our protection the hope and security they deserve.
