40 Days For Life: DAY 26: A second opinion - from an abortionist?

40 Days for Life
Dear Deacon John,

By far, the unborn children most frequently targeted by the medical industry are those diagnosed with disabilities. Countless are the moms who have told us that physicians encouraged them to abort because of their babies’ condition.

Mothers who want nothing but the best for their babies are sent – often unknowingly – to “specialists” that turn out to be abortionists.

These situations show the worst of our culture – and another area in which 40 Days for Life vigils are making a life-saving difference.

Birmingham, England

Isabel was praying outside the Marie Stopes abortion facility in Birmingham when a man came out of the building and wanted to chat.

"He said his wife had severe diabetes and some other health issues," she said. "Consequently their first child was born premature and was autistic. His wife was now in her 40s. So when she became pregnant again, they went to their GP. He sent them straight to Marie Stopes!"

Isabel asked him if he was aware his wife was having a consultation in an abortion center. He was shocked and said they both disagreed with abortion, it was against their faith and they had certainly not been asking their doctor for that.

"I told him where he could get real help for both his wife and unborn baby," Isabel said. "When his wife came out, they were both very grateful and said they would never come back." They went away smiling, waving and saying thank you.

"How sad that abortion seems to be pushed on some people by their doctors," she said. "And to think that people are coming to an abortion clinic without realising what it is!"

Lansing, Michigan

Cecilia sent along a photo of a young boy who was at the 40 Days for Life vigil in his stroller.

"This little guy is our 40 Days for Life Lansing hero," she said. "We're counting on his cuteness factor to change hearts and minds. Today the clinic was closed, so it was a good day all the way around."

In fact, it has now been ten days that this abortion business has been closed. The Lansing team has heard that there may be issues surrounding medical licenses or state permits, which could certainly be a reason to keep the doors shut. Please keep this campaign in your prayers!

Here's today's devotional from Vera Faith Lord, director of the Alpha/Omega Life Ministry.

Day 26 intention

That those who have forgotten their purpose may discover it in God and therefore have the courage to choose life.

Scripture

These all wait for you, that you may give them their food in due season, what you give them they gather in; you open your hand they are filled with good. You hide your face, they are troubled; you take away their breath, they die and return to their dust. You send forth your Spirit, they are created; and you renew the face of the earth.

-- Psalm 104:27-30

Reflection by Vera Faith Lord

"I am a feather on the breath of God."

As the quote above portrays, we are upheld by the power and purpose of God. Our very existence on earth, from our body's first breath to its last, when we leave it to return home, is our Father's choice and happens only by His willing to do so.

He who created the universe also created that which is "me." I do not "have" a soul - I AM a soul, as well as a body. My entire purpose in this life is to find my way back to my Creator.

Prayer

Beloved Father, remind us today that there is no truth but you. Do not let us fall prey to the evil one's lie that we may choose death. Remind us right now that you, who created all life, are in control of all life, and let us know right now that you who created all life, are in control of all life, and let us choose life always.

Father, please let us hear your voice more today than yesterday. Keep lighting the pathway home, for us and for all who participate in this 40 Days for Life campaign. Father, we're on our way. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
