“As Jesus was entering a village, ten lepers met Him. They
stood at a distance from Him and raised their voices, saying, ‘Jesus
Master! Have pity on us!’”

28th Sunday of the Year
Dear John,
Pope Francis continues to surprise and challenge us. During his
visit to Brazil for World Youth Day, he looked, as he frequently does,
to the needs of the weak and the poor. He explained:
No one is disposable! Let us always remember this: Only when we
are able to share do we become truly rich; everything that is shared is
multiplied! Think of the multiplication of the loaves by Jesus! The
measure of the greatness of a society is found in the way it treats
those most in need, those who have nothing apart from their poverty!
The poorest of the poor call to us to help. While there has
been remarkable progress in curing and treating so many of the illnesses
that afflict them, access to health care and needed medicines must be
made available. Here is where the work of the Catholic Medical Mission
Board contributes. Through medicines, clinics and volunteers, CMMB
extended the healing, loving and caring hand of Jesus to “those most in
need.”

Almighty God, Whose blessed Son Jesus Christ went about doing good and
healing all manners of sickness and disease among the people; continue,
we ask, this gracious work among us in hospitals, clinics, and
infirmaries around the globe; console and heal the sufferers, grant all
nurses and physicians wisdom, skill, diligence and patience. Prosper
their work, Lord, and share Your blessing to all who share in this
healing ministry. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
Rev. Peter Schineller, S.J., CMMB Board of Directors
