Through prayer, fasting and sacrifice during Lent, we are reminded that we are one community – one body in Christ.
Dr. Tom Catena is a medical volunteer who makes tremendous sacrifices
every day. He is a hero. For more than 15 years, he has been
volunteering with CMMB, most recently in the Nuba Mountains of South
Sudan. If a child is suffering, Dr. Tom helps him. If a woman is
pregnant, Dr. Tom provides prenatal care and delivers her baby. If a
patient needs surgery, Dr. Tom comes to the rescue.
Dr. Tom’s dedication is so extraordinary, that he was listed as one of Time’s 100 Most Influential People last year, and was nominated just this week by an international committee for a humanitarian prize,
meant to honor those whose exceptional work to preserve human life puts
them in great peril. We are truly blessed to have this brave man in
our community.
Dr. Tom is the only doctor at Mother of Mercy
Hospital. When I think of Dr. Tom, and all our medical volunteers, I am
reminded of a passage from the Gospel of John: “Lord, to whom shall we go?”
Nearly half a million men, women and children living in the Nuba
Mountains depend on Dr. Tom. We have nowhere else to turn to get him
the help he needs – only good friends like you.
During Lent, please be as generous as you can. Dr. Tom’s ability to heal the sick and injured depends on your mercy and support. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for helping Dr. Tom and all of our volunteers who answer the call to save lives.
