Pro-Life Catholics Arrested at Cathedral in Baltimore Handing Out Literature Questioning the Ethics of Voting for Obama One Remains In Jail Faithful Urged to Call Diocese MEDIA ADVISORY, September 15 /Christian Newswire/ -- Joseph Landry (27) and Brian Sherwood (35) were arrested at the Basilica of the Assumption in Baltimore, MD (409 Cathedral St, Baltimore, MD 21201) for passing out pro-life literature after Mass. They were peaceful and respectful. Mr. Landry is currently in Jail with a $10,000 bond. Mr. Sherwood was released late Sunday night on his own recognizance. Mr. Landry States: "I am shocked that we - as devout Catholics - are being arrested at a Catholic church for handing out Catholic literature. "If the bishops don't have to courage to tell their flock that it is immoral to vote for a child-killer like Obama, then the faithful will." Joseph Landry View the flyer here that they were distributing: Mr. Landry and Mrs. Andrea Terry were also arrested in January at St. Jude's Cathedral in St. Petersburg, FL for handing out pro-life literature. Randall Terry States: "It is an outrage that Joseph is sitting in jail with a $10,000 bond. We are asking faithful Catholics across the nation to call Archbishop O'Brien and his staff at 410-547-5437 and 410-547- 5379 to demand that the charges against these men be dropped, and that Mr. Landry be released from jail immediately. "There will be many more faithful Catholics handing out pro-life literature at Cathedrals across the nation that upholds the teaching of 'The Gospel of Life.' Will we see more Bishops arresting the faithful for upholding church teaching?" See statement to Bishops, asking them to NOT arrest pro-lifers; released on September 3, 2008, from St. Paul MN. |
Were there to be no support in the whole history of ethical and moral thought, were there no acknowledged confirmation from medical science, were the history of legal opinion to the contrary, we would still have to conclude on the basis of God's Holy Word that the unborn child is a person in the sight of God. He is protected by the sanctity of life graciously given to each individual by the Creator, Who alone places His image upon man and grants them any right to life which they have.
