Lifeissues.net Newsletter 481

Greetings from LifeIssues.net (
www.LifeIssues.net)

Dear Friends for Life,

Nearly one million Spaniards marched in cities across that nation on March 7, defending the right to life of the unborn and demanding that the government revoke its new law. This law lowered the age of abortion and made it more permissive. The largest march was in Madrid where 600,000 people participated.

Over 2,000 people marched in the Czech capital of Prague on March 20. Many carried white wood crosses, which the organizers prepared "as symbols of the genocide of abortion." It had been preceded by a pro-life conference in Munster, Germany, and a pro-life march there. This was a first, organized by the Catholic Euro Pro-life to call attention to the tragedy of abortion which takes 1,000 lives in Germany each day. An attempted march last year was largely broken up by pro-abortion forces. This year adequate police protection allowed a peaceful march. It went through the old city center, drew the attention of the shopping crowd, and it halted by the river to throw 100 symbolic roses into the river while the marchers knelt in silent prayer.

The newly formed South African Culture of Life Campaign held its first March for Life. Over 2,000 people marched. Sponsored by the Catholic Archdiocese, people from more than 130 parishes and representatives of all major Catholic organizations participated.

Throughout the world, a voice for the Culture of Life is gradually spreading and God's people are being heard. Your prayers and participation are essential to change trends and laws in society in the direction of human dignity and value of human life.

God Bless,
Jerry Novotny, OMI

(Planned Parenthood): "Serious Financial Discrepancies Found At Planned Parenthood" - A new report from the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) on federal tax money given to Planned Parenthood and similar organisations raises more questions than it answers according to critics of the giant abortion business. Planned Parenthood Federation of America's (PPFA) audits show the organisation spent just $657.1 million between 2002 and 2008 from federal government grants and programs, but its own annual reports show that it took in $2.3 billion from government grants and programmes during the same time period.

Some 90% of gay men in the Asia-Pacific region are denied access to HIV/Aids help because of discriminatory laws in many states, a UN-backed report says.

ITEM #2. Pakistan targets organ trade

Pakistan has passed a new law banning the donation of human organs to all but the closest of relatives. The law is aimed at protecting the country's poor and vulnerable, who can be duped into parting with a kidney for a few hundred dollars.

ITEM #3. Namibia HIV women sue over forced sterilisation

Three women in Namibia are suing the state for allegedly being sterilised without their informed consent after being diagnosed as HIV positive. The women say the doctors and nurses should have informed them properly about what was happening.

ITEM #4. IVF babies aborted 'after women change their minds'

Dozens of women are aborting babies conceived by IVF because they have changed their minds about motherhood, figures suggest. Many are in their teens, twenties and early thirties, implying that numerous abortions were carried out for social reasons, rather than on health grounds.

ITEM #5. Belgian euthanasia nurses 'fail to get consent'

Almost half of deaths by euthanasia in Belgium have involved patients who have not explicitly requested their lives to be ended by a doctor, a study has suggested. A fifth of nurses interviewed by researchers admitted that they had been involved in the euthanasia of a patient based on the "assumption" they would want to die. Nearly half of the nurses - 120 of 248 - admitted they had taken part in "terminations without request or consent".

ITEM #6. Searching For Solutions To AIDS

The Catholic Church is regularly pilloried for its refusal to back the use of condoms in fighting the spread of HIV and AIDS. This nonacceptance is not only sound moral teaching, but it also has solid scientific foundations.

ITEM #7. Germany & Assisted Suicide: The Wrong Side of History Again

Comment: The reason courts accept such dubious recollections in these life and death cases while courts insist on carefully written estate wills is discrimination. If you are perceived to be a burden to society or family, you can be legally and medically executed.
For example, in the Christine Busalacchi case which followed  the Cruzan case here in Missouri in the early 1990s, the father of Christine made a public plea for someone to come forward with their recollections that Christine wanted to die rather than be in a "vegetative" state to meet the "clear and convincing" evidence standard recently set in Missouri. No one came forward. Christine was even being weaned from tube to oral feedings and tapes were made by her nurses to show her responsiveness, Yet her father insisted that such oral feedings be stopped because of weight loss and that such tapes violated Christine's right to privacy. He allowed a picture of himself and Christine to be published on the cover of Time magazine for an article promoting the "right to die." Not surprisingly, the judge allowed the feeding tube to be removed.
Now we even have Belgium and Holland openly practising active euthanasia with or without request. And it all started with the "right to die" movement and "living wills." -Nancy Valko, RN

ITEM #8. 12.3 million in slavery as human trafficking expands

Catholic Relief Services, the US bishops' humanitarian agency, has drawn attention to the US State Department's recent annual report on human trafficking, which estimates that the number of "adults and children in forced labor, bonded labor, and forced prostitution around the world" is 12.3 million. The State Department recently honored Brother Xavier Passat, a French Dominican, for his efforts to combat human trafficking in Brazil.

ITEM #9. Is Every Human Being Really Human?

Unfortunately, people who wish to confuse the public have victimized the word "conception." Thus, the use of this word has become problematic, for we know that there are human beings who do not begin their lives according to the sexual method of procreation, but rather come into being by what is defined as asexual means.

ITEM #10. Mercer's Obsolete Bioethics Plea: "A Fetus is not a Person"

Second marriages are more than 90% more likely to break up than first marriages, according to a new study by Australian researchers. The researchers also found that cohabiting, having children before marrying, and an imbalance between partners in the desire for children are all correlated with marital breakup. "The overwhelming bulk of research on cohabitation and marital instability finds that cohabitation before marriage is linked to a greater probability that the marriage will fail," said the researchers.

ITEM #11. Opinion - Women Missing The Children

Over the years as a Registered Nurse, I experienced a steady pattern of women who shared their gut-wrenching stories of pain and sadness from their choice at a young age to not have children. Some were sterilized even before having even one child.

ITEM #12. 'Donating sperm leads to distraught offspring'

A new study released this summer titled My Daddy's Name is Donor, conducted in part by UT sociology professor Dr. Norval Glenn, has found that kids conceived with donor sperm have serious questions about their biological father and their own identity.
