House Votes Thursday on Budget Bill With DC Abortion $ Ban
Republicans and Democrats in Congress are taking very different positions on how to handle the impasse the two parties have over the budget with Republicans wanting to vote for a pro-life bill Democrats oppose.
House Speaker John Boehner announced this afternoon that Republicans in the House will vote for a new short-term continuing resolution that would fund the federal goverent for a week. It is a bill that contains pro-life language reinstating the ban on taxpayer funding of abortions in the nation s capital. However, Democrats oppose the measure and President Barack Obama says he does not support it becaue of the pro-life language.
Meanwhile, a senior White House official confirmed today that military service men and woman would be required to work but would not receive paychecks if the government shuts down Saturday without the Houe bill in place to fund the government for another week while the parties work out their differences.
That upsets Brian Burch, President of CatholicVote, who told LifeNews today that Obama and Democrats are willing to make members of the military sacrifice because they are too concerned with protecting abortion funding.
Military families will suffer because of the rigid pro-abortion ideology of President Obama and Senate Democrats, he said. Our military men and women are fighting three wars overseas but now risk delaying their paychecks because President Obama and Senate Democrats would rather shut down the federal government than defund Planned Parenthood. Their priorities are simply shameful. Full story at LifeNews.com
Abortion Advocates Threaten Pro-Lifers, Slash Tires in Violence
Abortion activists protested a weekend event honoring pro-life advocate Joe Schiedler of the Pro-Life Action League and the protests involved more than just holding signs or chanting they included violence.
Shortly after the event, pro-abortion stalwarts slashed the tires of three pro-life advocates and another abortion advocate threatened more violence against him. As posted on the Chicago Independent Media Center website, one pro-abortion person wrote:
On the night of April 2nd, shortly after the pro choice demo against Joe Scheidler, another attack from pro-choice militants was carried out against him and his followers. Three cars of pro-life activists had their tires slashed .Aside from wanting Joe to remove that Indiana Jones [deleted] lookin hat, we hope, and will see to it, that his punk-a** receives constant and aggressive confrontation until he quits the ridiculous anti-choice bull****. Those who attempt to take away ones freedom deserve it not for themselves.
Thomas Peters of Catholic Vote saw the post and responded to it and the violent attitude, saying, Some pro-abortion activists have completely crossed the line into physical intimidation and acts of violence.
This sort of violence and intimidation ought to be quickly and unequivocally condemned. If someone claiming to be pro-life posted something like this, pro-abortion leaders would be clamoring for apologies from the pro-life movement and the media would cover the story, Peters added. Planned Parenthood: Emergency Rooms Overrun If We re Defunded
Planned Parenthood officials defending the taxpayer funding the abortion business enjoys are out with a new claim that pro-life advocates find laughable as a supposed reason for federal dollars.
Last week, Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards made the false claim that Planned Parenthood abortion centers do mammograms and that was a reason to protect its federal funding. Now, Tait Sye, a spokesman for Planned Parenthood, told Community Television of Southern California: If we are defunded, America s emergency rooms will be overrun.
David Schmidt, the media director of Live Action, the group that released undercover videos showing Planned Parenthood staffers willing to arrange abortions for girls victimized in sex trafficking and which helped expose the false mammogram claim, responded to the latest assertion in comments to LifeNews.com.
This is the latest attempt by Planned Parenthood to overstate their case for retaining taxpayer funding. Planned Parenthood does not provide emergency services and so an elimination of their taxpayer subsidy will not overrun the nation s emergency rooms, he said. What we can be expecting to see is that the approximately 7,000 federally qualified health centers across America will receive some additional clients who previously went to Planned Parenthood.
Observing Planned Parenthood make such an outrageous claim shows how they are willing to jump beyond sound logic and reason in a desperation attempt to retain their federal pipeline of funds, Schmidt added. Our nation deserves a truthful debate about whether Planned Parenthood should be funded and wildly inaccurate and unfounded fear-based statements from Planned Parenthood does not serve that vital public discussion. Pro-Life Group: Planned Parenthood Can t Account for Tax Money
A pro-life group is defending its allegations that the Planned Parenthood abortion business can t account for as much as $1.3 billion of the approximately $363 million it gets from the federal government on an annual basis.
In June 2010, Rita Diller of the group STOPP International wrote an opinion column in the Washington Times making the allegations. She said her reading of a U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) report on the money pro-abortion groups receive from the federal government raised more questions than answers.
Planned Parenthood Federation of America s (PPFA) audits show the organization spent just $657.1 million between 2002 and 2008 from federal government grants and programs, but the abortion behemoth s own annual reports show that it took in $2.3 billion from government grants and programs during the same time period, Diller wrote. That s not pocket change. Why the discrepancy?
Has Planned Parenthood managed to tuck away megamillions of our tax dollars, seemingly unnoticed? Or is that much of its government funding coming from sources other than the federal government? Or is there a problem with the way Planned Parenthood is reporting its expenditure of our federal monies? Diller asked. Yes, Planned Parenthood has other sources of government funding state and local but historical data indicate it is simply not believable that such a large amount of its funding is from local and state sources.
Although GAO indicated Planned Parenthood received an average of 72 percent of its government income from the federal government, Planned Parenthood s figures show federal funds comprising just 32 percent of its total income from government sources. Full story at LifeNews.com
National Pro-Life T-Shirt Week Starts for Youth, Students
College and high school students and young people of all ages will be wearing pro-life T-shirts to school next week as a part of National Pro-Life T-shirt Week, sponsored by the pro-life group American Life League.
Participating youth can have fun, change some hearts, and maybe win some great prizes just for submitting photos of themselves wearing pro-life T-shirts around town, at school or around their homes with friends and family. Tom Mon, vice president at the pro-life organization explained that it wants pro-life youth to do more than wear a shirt he hopes they will take their T-shirts to different places to ensure people get the pro-life message.
You earn points for photos of completing any one of hundreds of listed tasks while wearing any pro-life t-shirt. The more tasks completed, the higher the points, he said. This contest is the most fun I get to have all year.
The contestant who scores the most points by sending in photos of different completed tasks wins a new iPad 2. Second and third place winners will receive iPod Touches while even fourth and fifth place finishers will win iPod Shuffles. The 300 pro-life t-shirt wearing contest tasks range from the mundane (brushing your teeth) to the quite creative ( Cooking the Books at a library) to the somewhat weird in public (like standing on a chair at a mall holding an umbrella in the air). Planned Parenthood Paying for Volunteers to Lobby Congress
The fact that this group is called Grassroots Campaigns is quite ironic, considering they are in the business of paying people to spontaneously support their cause. In politics we have a word for paying people to fake real supporters: Astroturfing.
But wait, it gets more interesting: this Thursday is Pro-Choice Lobby Day in Washington DC. They promise to provide training to people who show up. That s smart, especially if the people who are showing up are being paid to lobby and don t know this issue. Maybe the RSVP list looked too thin to the organizers and they decided they needed a little shot in the arm.
But wait, it gets more interesting: could Planned Parenthood be behind this? The advertisement above was uploaded under the name PP DC CL ( Planned Parenthood DC? ). Full story at LifeNews.com
Bill Clinton Defends Taxpayer Funding for Planned Parenthood
Former President Bill Clinton says he knows what s best for women and has put out a statement defending taxpayer funding for the Planned Parenthood abortion business, but one pro-life women s group begs to differ.
The assault on Planned Parenthood is unjustified. It is penny-wise and pound foolish, Clinton says.
The pro-abortion Democrat claims the money Planned Parenthood gets will not go towards abortions and that the family planning dollars will help reduce abortions even though University of Alabama professor Michael New explains how no analysis of actual abortion data has found that more spending on contraception programs reduces the incidence of abortion.
Clinton said, The law strictly and clearly prohibits the use of federal funds for abortion services. The Republicans elimination of funding for Planned Parenthood, will in the end cost more than it saves by ending the ability of millions of American women to receive family planning services, breast and cervical cancer screenings and preventative healthcare at cost-efficient Planned Parenthood centers. And the denial of simple birth control and family planning services may well increase both the number of unintended pregnancies and abortions in our country. Full story at LifeNews.com
