Lifeissues.net: clear thinking about crucial issues

Dear Friends For Life,

A Danish study states that there are no problems from abortion. Published in the New England Journal of Medicine, a new study claims that abortion does not increase the risk of subsequent mental health problems. This has been met with a chorus of outrage from women who have suffered deeply from post abortion syndrome. Georgette Forney, founder of a major post-abortion group reacted "Frankly for the thousands of us who have stepped forward publicly, and many more who continue to endure the pain of abortion privately, it is outrageous to hear abortion apologists say that we don't exist. It's as if the people who designed this report specifically set it up to exclude women at the greatest risk to suffer post abortion problem, i.e., those having repeat abortions or having abortions after thirteen weeks of pregnancy."

Walking for life is spreading across many parts of the world. The US West Coast Walk for Life had fifty thousand people this year. It has quickly become the west coast companion to the Annual Washington March for Life.

In closing, I would like to dedicate this poem to the many hard-working fathers who are heroes to their children.

    Footprints

    "Walk a little slower, Daddy,"
    said a child so small.
    "I'm following in your footsteps
    and I don't want to fall.

    Sometimes your steps are very fast,
    Sometimes they're hard to see;
    So walk a little slower, Daddy,
    For you are leading me.

    Someday when I'm all grown up,
    You're what I want to be;
    Then I will have a little child
    Who'll want to follow me.

    And I would want to lead just right,
    And know that I was true;
    So, walk a little slower, Daddy,
    For I must follow you."

God Bless,

(A Thought) "Once we know who we are, and know that there are other real folk about us; once we understand that you and I are part of a community of souls - why, then it is possible to be fairly human, to live and die with dignity." - Russell Kirk

(Suicide): "On Father's Day, Let's Celebrate 'Dads for Life'" - This weekend we celebrate Father's Day, and I thought this would be a good opportunity to address a common objection raised by abortion advocates: that men, because they can't get pregnant, have no business saying or doing anything about abortion.

ITEM #1: UN summit on HIV/AIDS adopts ambitious targets to defeat epidemic

Countries adopted ambitious new targets to defeat AIDS, with the aim of ridding the world of a disease that has claimed more than 30 million lives since it was first reported three decades ago.

****************************************

ITEM #2: First Ladies join forces at UN to prevent new HIV infections among children

Around 1,000 babies are infected with HIV each day, 90 per cent of whom are in countries in sub-Saharan Africa, according to the Joint UN Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS). HIV is also the leading cause of maternal mortality in developing countries.

****************************************

ITEM #3: Belgian Doctors Boast of Harvesting Organs After Euthanasia

Once you accept the premise that there is such a thing as a life not worth living-to the point that killing is an acceptable answer to the problem-there aren't many arguments left against such a regime. People with disabilities should be very alarmed.

****************************************

ITEM #4: Protecting Children In A Consumeristic World

Releasing his findings, Bailey commented: "I want to put the power back in parents' hands so they can better manage the pressures on their children and make it easier for them to bring up their children the way they want."

****************************************

ITEM #5: The International Role of the Catholic Church in the Prevention and Treatment of HIV/AIDS

Journalist Peter Seewald: "...The Church does more than anyone else. And I stand by that claim. Because she is the only institution that assists people up close and concretely, with prevention, education, help, counsel, and accompaniment. And because she is second to none in treating so many ... [persons living with or affected by HIV and AIDS], especially children with Aids."

****************************************

ITEM #6: Editorial: Abuse of the elderly happens far too often

The unscrupulous prey on old people and bilk huge sums of money from them. Far worse than this is the harm they suffer when people hurt them physically and emotionally, neglect them and abandon them, especially when they can no longer take care of themselves.

****************************************

ITEM #7 The Higher They are The Harder They Fall

Pacific Reproductive Center (PRC) of Southern California (AKA, the reproductive tourist capital of the world) has just announced the opening of an on-site laboratory with breakthrough technology that has the ability to analyze all 46 chromosomes (23 from the mother and 23 from the father) of a human embryo within 24 hours. It is billed as "fresh hope for would-be moms at risk of miscarriages and birth defects." ...Make no mistake, this breakthrough technology is nothing but a modern day search and destroy method of screening out "defective" human embryos.

****************************************

ITEM #8: Structural discrimination, a common thread between the Roma and the victims of caste systems

The United Nations Special Rapporteur on Racism, Githu Muigai, said Tuesday that deep-rooted discrimination, prejudices, and intolerance are common threads that run through the lives of the Roma people in Europe and the victims of caste or similar systems of inherited status in Africa, Asia and the Middle East.

****************************************

ITEM #9: UN Agencies Urge to End Practice of 'Son Preference'

"Son preference" perpetuates discrimination and violations of women's rights - it must and can end.

****************************************

ITEM #10: Dating Rules: 10 Rules for Chaste Dating

Ten Ways to Chaste Dating for the over-21 Crowd and for those who live Outside the Home.

****************************************

ITEM #11: Guilty pleas in largest US human trafficking case

Three US men pleaded guilty to luring 600 Thai farm workers to US farms and exploiting their labor in a case the Justice Department described as the largest human trafficking case in US history.

****************************************

ITEM #12: Deep Divisions Rock UN HIV/AIDS Meeting

Last Friday the high-level UN meeting on HIV/AIDS closed with a political declaration that reveals deeply divided approaches to end the epidemic. Divisions were so bitter that a rowdy crowd observing the session repeatedly booed the Holy See delegate when she explained the Holy See position. The chair did not respond to the disturbance, which occurred repeatedly.
