Republican Candidates Proudly Wear Pro-Life Label at Debate
At last night s Republican presidential debate in New Hampshire, the site of the second primary election battleground, the presidential hopefuls seeking to take on pro-abortion President Barack Obama touted their pro-life positions on abortion.
Four of the candidates seeking the Republican nomination proudly wore their pro-life views on their sleeve as they responded to questions from CNN debate moderators and voters.
Rick Santorum, the former Pennsylvania senator, received the first question on abortion and it had CNN s Jennifer Vaughn attempt to goad him into attacking former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, who changed his position on abortion from supporting it to pro-life a couple of years before he ran for president the first time in 2008.
Senator Santorum, staying with you for a moment, if I may, you are staunchly pro-life. Governor Romney used to support abortion rights until he changed his position on this a few years ago. This has been thoroughly discussed. But do you believe he genuinely changed his mind, or was that a political calculation? Should this be an issue in this primary campaign? Vaughn asked.
Santorum was clearly not ready to go after Romney, and he replied, I think I think an issue should be in looking at any candidate is looking at the authenticity of that candidate and looking at their at their record over time and what they fought for. And I think that s that a factor that that should be determined.
Former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty also responded to the question on abortion and pointed to his long record of signing and supporting pro-life legislation.
Well, this is a great example where we can look at our records. The National Review Online, which is a conservative publication, said based on results not just based on words I was probably the most pro-life candidate in this race, he said.http://www.lifenews.com/2011/06/14/republican-candidates-proudly-wear-pro-life-label-at-debate/
Pro-Life Rep. Michele Bachmann Joins GOP Presidential Field
During last night s Republican presidential debate, pro-life Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota told the audience she had filed papers to officially enter the race to replace pro-abortion President Barack Obama.
I just want to make an announcement here for you, John, on CNN tonight. I filed today my paperwork to seek the office of the presidency of the United States today. And I ll very soon be making my formal announcement, she said.
Bachmann followed up her debate declaration with an email to supporters providing more details about her forthcoming announcement.
For the last several months, thousands of patriotic Americans encouraged me to run for President of the United States. After many weeks of prayer and thoughtful discussion with my family and friends, I have decided to take the next step forward in seeking the Republican nomination for President of the United States, Bachmann said. This afternoon we filed papers with the Federal Election Commission to create a new committee, Bachmann for President.
We will plan on making a more formal announcement and entrance into the race later this month from my hometown of Waterloo, Iowa but I feel so strongly about what is happening to our country that I couldn t wait even one more day to begin this campaign, Bachmann added. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/06/14/pro-life-rep-michele-bachmann-joins-gop-presidential-field/
Abortion Center Shown Falsifying Documents on Botched Abortions
A national pro-life organization is accusing a Louisiana abortion center of falsifying documents to state officials concerning botched abortions done on women that result in complications and medical problems.
Baton Rouge resident Richard Mahoney has uncovered evidence that Delta Women s Clinic in Baton Rouge has, for decades, falsified medical records and under-reported the number of abortions resulting in the death of or injury to pregnant women. DHH officials have been aware of the practice and have allowed it to continue, he alleges.
Father Peter West, associate director of Priests for Life, is working with Mahoney to expose abuses at the Delta Women s Clinic abortion center, which has ties to indicted Philadelphia abortion practitioner Kermit Gosnell, who has been charged with eight counts of murder related to the death of a woman in a botched abortion at his Philadelphia abortion business and seven infanticides of babies he killed.
Recently, Operation Rescue filed a complaint with the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners against one of the abortion practitioners at Delta, Mary Frances Gardner, on behalf of a former patient who suffered such serious injuries there that she required a hysterectomy. However, as horrific as her complications were, they were never reported to the Department of Health and Hospitals, as required by law.
West says Mahoney has documents showing Delta Clinic submits forms to DHH on which many of the boxes had been pre-filled. On two separate forms, the box for Complication of Pregnancy Termination have been pre-printed with an x next to the None response. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/06/14/abortion-center-shown-falsifying-documents-on-botched-abortions/
Mother to Give Daughter Uterus in Transplant to Give Birth
A mother has decided to give her daughter her uterus in what may become the first-ever transplant, according to a medical team in Sweden that recently made the announcement.
We have reached a stage where we have started to plan for a human transplant and we are investigating 10 pairs, most of those are mother and daughters, Mats Braenstroem told AFP. He said the uterus transplant would take place hopefully at the beginning of next year.
Technically it is lot more difficult than transplanting a kidney, liver or heart. The difficulty with it is avoiding hemorrhage and making sure you have long enough blood vessels to connect the womb, he said. You are also working deep down in the pelvis area and it is like working in a funnel. It is not like working with a kidney, which is really accessible.
Braenstroem has assembled a team of doctors at the Sahlgrenska University Hospital and has been researching the transplant surgery for a decade, including looking into the first transplant involving unrelated women, which took place in Saudi Arabia in 2002.
There can just be an advantage because they are more similar in their tissues so there could be less rejection in that situation, he told AFP of the difference between the two surgeries.
The younger of the women, Sara Ottosson, who is 25, told the tabloid Expressen she is excited about the prospects of giving birth, though she never mentioned the possibility of adoption. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/06/14/mother-to-give-daughter-uterus-in-transplant-to-give-birth/
New Video Takes on Pro-Abortion Appeals Court Nominee Steve Six
The pro-life group Operation Rescue is out with a new video that takes on pro-abortion federal appeals court nominee Steve Six, whose nomination will likely be voted on this week by the Senate Judiciary Committee. He is the former Kansas state Attorney general who upset pro-life advocates by attempting to stall an investigation into potentially illegal abortions at Planned Parenthood abortion centers.
Six attempted to help the abortion business hide patient files and other evidence that a prosecutor said showed Planned Parenthood violating state laws on when late-term abortions could be done and the video highlights Six s actions.

NYC Law Attacking Pregnancy Centers Faces Court Hearing
New York City officials face a hearing in federal court tomorrow over a lawsuit filed on behalf of pregnancy centers attacked in a new ordinance the city council passed and Mayor Michael Bloomberg signed.
The city council approved the bill on a 39-9-1 vote on the ordinance that would place stringent limits on the advertising pregnancy centers use and require them to post signs designed to dissuade women from seeking their abortion alternatives services.
Alliance Defense Fund attorneys filed suit against the city over the law that the pro-life legal group says threatens non-medical, pro-life pregnancy care centers with steep fines and potential closure if they don t post signs and publish in their ads that the city health department encourages women to go elsewhere. Meanwhile, officials with the American Center for Law and Justice also filed a lawsuit in federal court challenging the ordinance. The ACLJ represents numerous crisis pregnancy centers and contends the law violates the U.S. Constitution as well as the New York State Constitution.
Margaret Harthsorn, the president of Heartbeat International, a national network of pregnancy centers offering women abortion alternatives, commented on the upcoming hearing. Heartbeat has been on the ground since the New York City Council voted to pass Bill 371 and Mayor Bloomberg signed the bill into law, stating, I know it s unconstitutional, but I m going to sign it anyway.
Immediately after the bill was signed into law, Heartbeat took action. A lawsuit against the city of New York has been filed by Heartbeat s representative, ACLJ. The lawsuit seeks to defend the rights of pregnancy help centers in NYC and to strike down the unconstitutional law, she said. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/06/14/nyc-law-attacking-pregnancy-centers-faces-court-hearing/
Don t Worry, Next Generation of Americans is Pro-Life
CNN s Belief Blog recently posted an article about the Public Religion Research Institute s survey on the attitudes of young adults toward abortion and same-sex marriage.
The article painted a pessimistic picture for social conservatives. With regard to abortion, the views of young adults are similar to those of their parents. Many young adults dislike abortion and are receptive toward pro-life arguments, but feel uncomfortable with banning abortion entirely. Even worse, most young people, even those who identify themselves as Christian, seem sympathetic toward same-sex marriage.
However, pro-lifers need not worry. The results of this survey are inconsistent with other survey research on the attitudes of young people toward abortion. The General Social Survey has been collecting opinion data on abortion using the same battery of questions since the 1970s. In most years, respondents between the ages of 18 and 29 tend to be the least sympathetic toward the pro-life position. However, starting around the year 2000, those between the ages 18 and 29 were on average more pro-life than those from other age cohorts. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/06/14/dont-worry-next-generation-of-americans-is-pro-life/
