Obama Threatens to Veto Bill For No Abortion $ in Obamacare
The Obama administration released a Statement of Administration Policy today threatening to veto a bill the House plans to vote on tomorrow that ensures no federal taxpayer funding for abortions under Obamacare.
On September 9, 2009, President Barack Obama addressed a joint session of Congress and claimed about the Obamacare legislation: And one more misunderstanding I want to clear up under our plan, no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions, and federal conscience laws will remain in place.
To hold him accountable to that pledge, the House of Representatives will vote Thursday on legislation that would stop abortion funding in the program. H.R. 358, Protect Life Act, makes it clear that no funds authorized or appropriated by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), including tax credits and cost-sharing reductions, may be used to pay for abortion or abortion coverage. It specifies that individual people or state or local governments must purchase a separate elective abortion rider or insurance coverage that includes elective abortion but only as long as that is done with private funds and not monies authorized by Obamacare.
But the new Obama administration statement says: The Administration strongly opposes H.R. 358 because, as previously stated in the Statement of Administration Policy on H.R. 3, the legislation intrudes on women s reproductive freedom and access to health care and unnecessarily restricts the private insurance choices that women and their families have today.
Longstanding Federal policy prohibits Federal funds from being used for abortions, except in cases of rape or incest, or when the life of the woman would be endangered, the new Obama administration statement says, referring to the Hyde Amendment, which does not apply to the Obamacare law. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/10/12/obama-threatens-to-veto-bill-for-no-abortion-in-obamacare/
Bill Holds Obama to Task for No Abortion Funding Rhetoric
On September 9, 2009, President Barack Obama addressed a joint session of Congress and stated, And one more misunderstanding I want to clear up under our plan, no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions, and federal conscience laws will remain in place.
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), the health care law enacted in 2010, failed to live up to the President s words. However, a bill that will be considered by the U.S. House of Representatives this week, the Protect Life Act (H.R. 358), would ensure that federal dollars will not be used to fund abortions and would provide clear federal conscience protections for health care providers.
Without the Protect Life Act, funds appropriated and authorized through the PPACA may subsidize abortion and insurance plans that cover abortion; mandates within PPACA may be invoked to require abortion-coverage; and state and federal conscience protections for healthcare providers are in jeopardy.
The Protect Life Act replaces the PPACA s accounting gimmick in the state insurance exchanges (which the PPACA requires be in place by 2014) with the principles of the Hyde Amendment. In line with the decades old restriction of the Hyde Amendment which applies to Medicaid the Protect Life Act prohibits funds authorized or appropriated by the PPACA from being used to pay for any abortion or to cover any part of the costs of any health plan that includes coverage of abortion, with exceptions for rape, incest, and the life of the mother. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/10/12/bill-holds-obama-to-task-for-no-abortion-funding-rhetoric/
Bishops Lose Obama Anti-Sex Trafficking Grant Over Abortion
The nation s Catholic bishops have lost a grant the federal government previous gave them for efforts to stop sex trafficking and they are concerned it is because they disagree with President Barack Obama over abortion.
The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops had previously received a five-year $19 million grant to help victims of sex trafficking during the administration of pro-life President George W. Bush. Sensitive to how women are exploited in the sex industry, the Catholic bishops prohibit any subcontractors from using the funds to pay for or promote abortions. Instead, the Catholic bishops provide comprehensive case management services to survivors including medical and mental health services.
While the Obama administration extended the contract briefly in March, the bishops were recently notified that it would not be renewed. Instead, Obama officials awarded the grant to three other groups (Tapestri of Atlanta, Heartland Human Care Services of Chicago and the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants of Washington) even though the bishops have helped more than 2,700 victims with the funding.
Sister Mary Ann Walsh, a spokeswoman for the Catholic Bishops, told Bloomberg News she worries the decision to pull the grant was made because the bishops are pro-life and strenuously disagree with Obama and the administration over abortion. We hope our religious beliefs didn t come into play, she said. Abortion politics will not find homes for minors being sold into sex slavery. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/10/12/bishops-lose-obama-anti-sex-trafficking-grant-over-abortion/
100 Members of Congress Tell Obama: De-Fund Pro-Abortion UNFPA
More than 100 members of Congress have drafted a new letter to President Barack Obama asking him to cut off federal taxpayer funding to the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) due to the agency s participation in China s brutal one child policy.
The letter was prompted by the Obama Administration s continued taxpayer contributions to the UNFPA and Vice President Biden s recent controversial comments in which the Vice President gave what letter drafter Rep. Chris Smith of New Jersey called a wink and a nod to China s coercive population control policy. Smith, a Republican, says the policy makes brothers and sisters illegal in China and subjects Chinese women to horrific human rights abuses including forced abortion and forced sterilization.
The Vice President said he fully understood the one child policy, and that he s not second guessing, said Smith, the Co-Chair of the Congressional Pro-life Caucus since 1982.
The one child per couple policy is cruel, inhumane and the most egregious systematic attack on women ever, he added. For the Vice President to publicly state that he fully understands the one child policy and say he won t second guess it is unconscionable. He and all of us should be defending the women of China from this state-sponsored cruelty of forced abortion and forced sterilization, not supporting and enabling it. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/10/12/100-members-of-congress-tell-obama-de-fund-pro-abortion-unfpa/

Planned Parenthood Claims Doing Abortions is Sacred Work
Yesterday I prayed at the 40 Days for Life campaign at a Planned Parenthood facility in Dover, Delaware.
You will see frequent references to Planned Parenthood in these daily updates after all, of the 301 vigil locations for this 40 Days for Life campaign, 133 of them are outside Planned Parenthood facilities. That s because Planned Parenthood is America s leading abortion chain 332,278 abortions in one year alone!
Now Planned Parenthood is trying to spruce up its image. It has to; its financial stability is at stake.
According to their own annual report, this organization took in $1.1 BILLION during that year. Of that total, $363 MILLION came directly from YOU through federal, state and local taxes.
The bible warns of those who would call good evil and evil good. As you will see, that s exactly what Planned Parenthood does. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/10/12/planned-parenthood-claims-doing-abortions-is-sacred-work/
Outpouring of Support Pays for Kortney Blythe Gordon s Funeral
The reaction of the pro-life community to the tragic death of Kortney Blythe Gordon and her unborn child Sophy in a tragic automobile accident last weekend has been amazingly strong. The outpouring of support has been so strong that the Students for Life leader will be able to have her funeral completely paid for due to pro-life donations.
I along with the entire team at Students for Life am overwhelmed by the outpouring of love, support, and prayers for the loss of Kortney and her pre-born daughter, Sophy, and for Jon s continued recovery, SFLA president Kristan Hawkins says in an update. Your generous donations have also raised more than enough for the burial costs for Kortney and Sophy. On behalf of the Gordon and Blythe families, we are truly thankful for the incredible amount of emotional, spiritual, and financial support you have shown in the past few days.
The accident also say SFLA staff member Jon Scarfenberger critically injured and his condition as been up and down since last weekend.
Jon continues to make small progresses and has overcome many large obstacles since the accident, but he isn t out of the woods yet and still desperately needs your prayers. Please continue to flood heaven so that our dear friend can be healed, Hawkins said. And although Jon has made various, gradual improvements, he has a long road of recovery ahead of him. His stability has fluctuated since the accident and, despite making a number of medical advancements that keep us all optimistic about his recovery, his condition continues to rise and fall throughout the day. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/10/12/outpouring-of-support-pays-for-kortney-blythe-gordons-funeral/
October Baby Movie Brings Pro-Life Message to Theaters
In October, a new film will be released in theaters in Alabama and Mississippi that may serve to change many hearts and minds on the issue of abortion. October Baby tells the story of Hannah, a college freshman who discovers that she was adopted and is a survivor of a failed abortion attempt. Hannah sets out on a journey to find her birth mother and learns many lessons in the process, including a powerful lesson about forgiveness.
October Baby will eventually be released nationwide, but the initial release in Alabama and Mississippi comes with an added bonus. In November, Mississippi voters will consider Amendment 26, an amendment to their state constitution which would acknowledge the personhood of every unborn child. The release date is no accident. Directors John and Andrew Erwin are strongly pro-life and hope that their film will help to bring the pro-life message to Mississippi in a powerful way as voters consider this issue. They have also committed to giving ten percent of the film s proceeds to organizations that help women in crisis pregnancy situations.
Gianna Jessen, abortion survivor and pro-life speaker, is among the film s strongest vocal supporters. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/10/12/october-baby-movie-brings-pro-life-message-to-theaters/
Undercover Call: Medicaid Would Pay 9K for Late-Term Abortion
An investigation conducted by two pro-life organizations has resulted in the release of an undercover call revealing how an abortion facility uses taxpayer funds via Medicaid to pay for late-term abortions. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/10/12/undercover-call-medicaid-would-pay-9k-for-late-term-abortion/
CNN s Roland Martin Blasts Herman Cain, Defends Abortion
Recently, CNN s Roland Martin berated Herman Cain for denying the GOP s horrible history with blacks . Inaccurately labeled a Political Analyst (because analysis requires an examination of facts), his role would be more appropriately dubbed Political Agitator. Martin, in typical media establishment style, unloads a pile of revisionist history that would make Michael Moore proud. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/10/12/cnn%E2%80%99s-roland-martin-blasts-herman-cain-defends-abortion/
Obama OKs More Embryonic Funding, Ignores Adult Stem Cells

The line, HUES PGD 14, was added to the NIH registry today, bringing the total number of approved hESC lines to 136. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/10/12/obama-oks-more-embryonic-funding-ignores-adult-stem-cells/
