Pro-Life Groups Praise Vote Stopping Abortion in Obamacare
Leading pro-life organizations praised yesterday s House vote for the Protect Life Act, legislation that would ensure no taxpayer dollars are used to pay for abortions under the Obamacare health care law.
As LifeNews reported members voted 251-172 for the pro-life legislation, with 236 Republicans and 15 Democrats supporting the bill and 170 Democrats and two Republicans voting against it. (See how your member voted here).
The National Right to Life Committee noted that the Obamacare law contained multiple provisions that provide authorizations for subsidies for abortion, both implicit and explicit, and also multiple provisions that opened doors to abortion-expanding administrative actions.
The Protect Life Act would prohibit the use of any PPACA-authorized funds for abortions or to subsidize health plans that cover abortions, except to save the life of the mother, or in cases of rape or incest. The Protect Life Act would not restrict the sale or purchase of insurance coverage for abortion with non-federal funds, the organization said.
NRLC said that, during the debate, opponents of the bill repeatedly claimed that it would allow hospitals to deny women emergency abortions. In reality, the bill does not change the longstanding federal law in question, called EMTALA, which requires that in an emergency a hospital must do its best to stabilize both the pregnant mother and her unborn child (which is the term used in the statute). The Protect Life Act allows federal funding of an abortion required to save a mother s life. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/10/14/pro-life-groups-praise-vote-stopping-abortion-in-obamacare/
Rick Santorum: Disabled Children Have So Much to Teach Us
Some said it was the best pro-life speech they had ever heard. Fresh from the Presidential campaign trail, former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum this week delivered an eloquent, emotional explanation of his pro-life journey during the 2011 Celebrate Life Banquet sponsored by the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation Education Fund.
In Mars, PA, Santorum weaved together vignettes from his personal and professional lives to show how he became a champion of the pro-life cause a cause he initially shied away from.
Santorum s first real public foray into the hot-button abortion issue came during the Capitol Hill debate on the outrageous practice of partial-birth abortion. His defense of innocent human life during that discussion would earn him the title ultra-conservative in a Blue State known for electing pro-abortion Republicans.
Santorum s awe-inspiring speech decrying partial-birth abortion saved at least one life, as a woman who had scheduled an abortion decided to cancel it when she saw his impassioned plea on television.
During his recent Pennsylvania appearance, Santorum recalled the crisis of faith he experienced when his wife Karen went to get an ultrasound of their unborn baby Gabriel.
The doctor told the couple, Your son has a fatal defect and is going to die. But Gabriel was born alive. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/10/14/rick-santorum-disabled-children-have-so-much-to-teach-us/
Komen for the Cure s Planned Parenthood Ties Must be Exposed
With October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Susan G. Komen Foundation is hungry for research funds and is going full-force after them. Shockingly, many still don t know that the nation s most visible breast cancer research organization funds Planned Parenthood, the nation s largest abortion business.
When you closely look at Komen and Planned Parenthood s relationship, you ll see that their financial ties have existed for quite some time. During 2010 the latest year figures that are available 18 Komen affiliates gave more than a half-million dollars in grants to Planned Parenthood. Since 2005, more than $3 million has gone toward Planned Parenthood s abortion mills from the Komen Foundation.
It appears that money speaks louder than women s safety for these two organizations working hand-in-hand.
The connection is counterproductive to Komen s mission to end breast cancer. Numerous studies from 1957 to the present have linked abortion to an increased risk in deadly breast cancer for women. With this frightening connection, it makes no sense why this close association with Planned Parenthood should have ever existed. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/10/14/komen-for-the-cures-planned-parenthood-ties-must-be-exposed/
Ron Paul Recalls Witnessing an Abortion in New Pro-Life Video
The campaign of Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul unveiled a new video ad today as part of its ongoing weeks-long, million-plus dollar ad buy to get the Texas congressman the GOP nomination.
The ad features Dr. Paul s recollection of his early years as a physician, where he recounts a time when he witnessed the tragic irony surrounding urgent medical care provided, and denied, to a wanted baby delivered prematurely and an unwanted baby that survived a late-term abortion. Paul is by trade an OB-GYN who personally delivered more than 4,000 babies.
Dr. Ron Paul, more than 4,000 babies delivered, the announcer says in the ad. A man of faith, committed to protecting life.
Paul himself is interviewed in the commercial, saying, This whole notion of life not being valuable just is something I was never able to accept.
The doctor recalls a time when he witnessed an abortion: I happened to have walked into an operating room where they were doing an abortion on a late pregnancy. They lifted out a small baby that was able to cry and breathe and they put it in a bucket and put it in the corner of the room. and pretended it wasn t there. I walked down the hallway and a baby was born early slightly bigger than the baby they put in the bucket and they wanted to save this baby. So they might have had 10 doctors in there doing everything conceivable [to save that baby's life]. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/10/14/ron-paul-recalls-witnessing-an-abortion-in-new-pro-life-video/

Pavone Skips Meeting With Bishop on Canon Lawyer s Advice
Father Frank Pavone, the national director of Priests for Life, skipped a proposed meeting with Amarillo Bishop Patrick J. Zurek in what would have been the latest in the saga regarding the bishop s decision to indefinitely have Pavone serve in the Texas diocese.
The bishop s decision has been filled with controversy with some pro-life advocates blasting him for preventing Pavone from actively engaging in his pro-life ministry and others saying the bishop s decision should be respected. Zurek alleges that there are financial irregularities at Priests for Life despite annual audits from one of the nation s top accounting firms.
Bishop Zurek announced on October 6 that he had invited Pavone to meet with him to discuss the issues, but Pavone did not attend apparently on the advice of his canon lawyer.
According to the Catholic Culture web site, On October 14 the day after the scheduled meeting Father David Deibel, a canon lawyer representing Priests for Life, disclosed that he had advised Father Pavone not to meet with the bishop.
Father Deibel said that he had made numerous requests to Bishop Zurek, suggesting mediation, but had received no reply. Reporting that other Church officials had recommended mediation, the canonist said: The details and history of the present situation are such that moving forward to a resolution is no longer simply a matter of getting together and talking. He said that it would be best for Father Pavone not to meet with his bishop under a plan for mediation was in place, the web site continued. Father Deibel criticized Bishop Zurek for informing the public about his plans to meet with Father Pavone. All of us want this entire process to be carried out in private rather than through the media, he said, in a statement released to the media. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/10/14/pavone-skips-meeting-with-bishop-on-canon-lawyers-advice/
Phill Kline Loses License for Prosecuting Planned Parenthood
A politically-charged panel in Kansas has stripped the law license of pro-life attorney and former Kansas Attorney General Phill Kline for prosecuting the Planned Parenthood abortion business.
A professional ethics panel recommended Thursday that Kline has his law license indefinitely suspended because of his conduct during criminal investigations of the abortion business, claiming he was motivated by dishonesty and selfishness. The three member panel of the state Board for Discipline of Attorneys claimed Kline repeatedly misled officials or allowed his staffers to do so.
The panel weighed nine counts of alleged ethical violations before the Kansas Attorney Disciplinary Board in the politically-charged case that is a distraction from the 107 counts of wrongdoing, including 23 felonies, against a Johnson County, Kansas Planned Parenthood abortion center.
However, the panel also ruled that some of the charges did not constitute violations of the state s rules for attorneys. The panel also did not recommend that Kline lose his law license something state Disciplinary Administrator Stanton Hazlett wanted to have happen. Kline can now file an appeal to have his license reinstated. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/10/14/phill-kline-loses-license-for-prosecuting-planned-parenthood/
Laura Ingraham: Media Prefers Occupy Wall Street to Pro-Lifers
Popular radio show host Laura Ingraham made an interesting observation at Vitae Foundation s 16th Annual Pro-Life Benefit Dinner in Kansas City Tuesday night. She noted all the media coverage surrounding the Occupying Wall Street protesters. Yet at the same time, the prayerful 40 Days for Life movement and the grassroots efforts of Vitae which provide actual life-saving stories won t make the evening news.
Ingraham noted that just this week an article on the LifeNews website reported 122 babies had been saved during this recent 40 Days for Life event.
These are amazing stories of lives being changed! People are going into a clinic for one thing and leaving with minds being changed, maybe being handed a pamphlet or thinking about the Vitae billboard they saw earlier in the day about other choices, the top female radio host remarked. They go into the clinics, and they make a different choice. And then they go on and say, My goodness, I have a life here. This is my DNA, this is my child! These are the stories that the dinosaur media will not cover.
Always ready to defend her views, Ingraham explained why the media won t touch these types of stories. They won t cover them for a reason. Because the more people hear of these stories and the more these stories get out, the polls start to change. The polls start to move in a pro-life direction. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/10/14/laura-ingraham-media-prefers-occupy-wall-street-to-pro-lifers/
