Lifeissues.net: clear thinking about crucial issues

Dear Friends For Life,

RU-486 Abortions Have More Complications - An Australian study of 7,000 women has revealed that of those who were aborted by this drug, 3.3 percent required emergency postoperative help. This compared to 2.2 percent of women who had first trimester surgical abortions done in the usual way. For example, women suffering severe hemorrhaging occurred one in every 3,000 surgical abortions but once in every 200 after RU-486 abortions. While admission for postpartum infection was one in 1,500 for surgical abortion it rose to one in 480 for RU-486 chemical abortions. Is Ella more effective? Yes and the reason Ella is more affective than Preven and Plan B is that it works for five days or more after the intercourse.

Ella blocks progesterone receptors in the uterine lining. This destroys the capacity of the mother to produce the progesterone necessary to support the embryo through the first weeks of pregnancy. Ella is formulated precisely to prevent a newly conceived human being from planting in the uterine lining. The American Association of Pro-life Obstetricians and Gynecologists has properly labeled Ella an embryocidal drug.

God Bless,
Jerry Novotny, OMI

(FAMILY): "The worth of a child" -  The judge said that the birth "implied an unchangeable modification of the family structure, personal autonomy, and personal development" of the mother. This is strangely bureaucratic language to have used, langue de bois in fact, that makes of human life nothing but a curriculum vitae.

"Video: Meet a baby saved during 40 Days for Life"As you watch the video, think about what it will be like when you get to meet a child who is alive due to your faithful response to God's call to "speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves."

"New documentary film exposes global 'gendercide'"In India, China and many other parts of the world today-including the USA (see http://www.nrlc.org/Sex-SelectionAbortion/Release053112b.htmlObama and 168 House Members Defend Sex-Selection Abortion), girls are killed, aborted and abandoned simply because they are girls. The United Nations estimates as many as 200 million girls are missing in the world today because of this so-called "gendercide". Find out more here: http://www.itsagirlmovie.com/

ITEM #1: Reflections on Being a Grandfather

T. H. Huxley, for whom evolution provided both his religion and his family tree, asserted repeatedly that, "a man has no reason to be ashamed of having an ape for his grandfather."

****************************************

ITEM #2: Freedom of Religion: Christianity's Modern-Day Martyrs

The rise of Islamic extremism is putting increasing pressure on Christians in Muslim countries, who are the victims of murder, violence and discrimination. Christians are now considered the most persecuted religious group around the world. Paradoxically, their greatest hope could come from moderate political Islam.

****************************************

ITEM #3: Contraceptive mandate stirs local Catholics

The Archdiocese of Chicago has not yet joined 43 other Roman Catholic institutions in suing the federal government over a mandate to pay for birth control, but local Catholic leaders are urging parishioners to speak out against what they view as a threat to religious freedom.

****************************************

ITEM #4: The Meaning of the "Pursuit of Happiness"

The right to "the pursuit of happiness" affirmed in the Declaration of Independence is taken these days to affirm a right to chase after whatever makes one subjectively happy. Further, the Declaration doesn't guarantee the right to happiness, the thought usually goes, but only the right to pursue what makes you happy. But this reading of the Declaration's "pursuit of happiness" is wrong on both scores.

****************************************

ITEM #5: Mom's Rules for Getting the Girl

A quality woman will bring out the best in a man. She will hold him to high standards. She will value herself, and she will value you. Look for this type of woman and don't settle.

****************************************

ITEM #6: Administration's abortion commitment may be aiding sex-slave industry

By insisting on abortion referrals in its anti-trafficking work, the Obama administration may be inadvertently helping the perpetrators of sex-slavery, a former Health and Human Services official says. "The present policy of the (HHS) department is: 'Victims be damned; we're going to make an ideological point, that we want them referred to Planned Parenthood' – notwithstanding the fact that it's not in the best interests of victims," Renewal Forum President Steven Wagner told CNA.

****************************************

ITEM #7 Worldwide population of test-tube babies reaches 5 million

In-vitro fertilisation (IVF) has given the world about five million new people since the first test tube baby was born in England 34 years ago, according to an estimate released on Monday. As the initial controversy over man's scientific manipulation of nature has faded, about 350,000 babies conceived in petri dishes are now born every year, said the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE).

****************************************

ITEM #8: "Humanae Vitae": 44 years later, it continues to challenge us to love, trust, and sacrifice

The encyclical, Humanae Vitae, was promulgated 44 years ago today, on July 25, 1968. The word often used to describe Pope Paul VI's encyclical is "prophetic". It is one of those rather rare cases in which such a daunting, loaded, and strong adjective is exactly on the mark. Being prophetic, in the biblical and apostolic tradition, involves far more than some sort of foretelling of future events. It is, first, a forthtelling of truth, a proclamation of the Word of God. As such, it requires courage and a willingness to be rejected, mocked, and even vilified.

****************************************

ITEM #9: Protecting Girls from Predators

I believe that all life is precious, from the unborn, to the disabled, and the aging. Ultimately, I won't be satisfied until the day Roe v. Wade is overturned, so that the rights of every unborn child are protected in the womb. There will always be some who try to make this issue about taking rights away - infringing on women's rights - but we know it is really about protecting rights that already exist.

****************************************

ITEM #10: Huge gender imbalance prompts Azerbaijani gov't to consider abortion ban

A senior Azerbaijani official has proposed a ban on abortion in the South Caucasus nation, calling the county's widespread practice of sex-selective abortion "savagery" and "murder."

****************************************

ITEM #11: 16-year-old: 'I regret having sex, but I've never regretted keeping my baby'

Defending a woman's 'right to choose' often means defending abortion. Pro-choice advocates argue for the availability of that choice saying "you wouldn't know how hard it is to deal with an unexpected pregnancy unless you've experienced it." But for Amber Kortekaas, pregnant at 16, nothing could be further from the truth. Amber recounted to LifeSiteNews what she called the "long chain of events" that resulted in her becoming pregnant at such a tender age.

ITEM #12: INSIGHTS by Dianne N Irving, Ph.D

article 1: Dozens of Genetically Modified Babies Already Born - How Will They Alter Human Species?

When I first read that genetically modified humans have already been born, I could hardly believe it. However, further research into this story featured in the UK's Daily Mail1 proved it to be true. They've really done it... they've created humans that nature could never allow for, and it's anyone's guess as to what will happen next. Even more shocking was the discovery that this is actually old news!

article 2: Quick money lures young women to donate eggs to fertility clinics

[Note: Follow the money. How long will it be before women on college campuses or women in poor neighborhoods (married or unmarried) are flooded with subversive advertising to make a quick buck by donating their eggs to infertility (and other) "clinics"? Who's to know? How do we know who or what persons, groups, organizations are acquiring such lucrative sought-after eggs, and for what purposes? Same is true re male sperm "donations". Same is true re seeking women as "surrogates". All these facilities in the US are unregulated. Why do people not know about this? -- DNI]

article 3: Former Monsanto Employee Talks GE Crop Concerns Amidst Deregulation Efforts

[Note: Any genuine academically credentialed Ph.D. in genetics (plant, animal, human) will tell you that in genetic engineering the researchers don’t know, and can't possibly know, all the millions of reactions that involve even a single gene in a living cell. Even geneticists don't know. Genes interact with other genes on the same chromosome, with other genes in other chromosomes, even sometimes inexplicably "hop" from one chromosome to another, react differently with different nuclei and other cell organelles, etc. These are really totally uncontrolled experiments, actually very unscientific, designed and run by mechanics and computers, and the consequences are massive. The question is, how have they ever been allowed to do such "experiments"? -- DNI]
