Mr. Obama, does Tonya Reaves look enough like your daughters to investigate Planned Parenthood?
By Cheryl Sullenger Chicago, IL - New information is surfacing about the young woman who died from a botched second-trimester abortion at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Chicago on Friday along with reports that a second Chicago area Planned Parenthood summoned an ambulance for an abortion patient on the same day, prompting continued calls for a thorough investigation. Tonya Reaves, 24, died Friday evening after suffering massive bleeding following a Dilation and Evacuation abortion at the Loop Center Health Care Planned Parenthood. She left a one-year old son named Alvin, a grieving fiancé, and an upset family that is now demanding answers. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office is telling callers Tonya's death has been ruled accidental. The autopsy report has not yet been released. Requests for the records have been filed. "That autopsy report will tell us more about what happened to Tonya, but we already know that complications that can cause hemorrhage, such a uterine perforation, are treatable. Tonya's death was tragically avoidable, and Planned Parenthood must be held accountable for taking the life of this young mother," said Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue and Pro-Life Nation. The Pro-Life Action League is now reporting that an ambulance was summoned to the Planned Parenthood abortion clinic in the Chicago suburb of Aurora on the same Friday that Tonya died from her abortion-related injuries. According to Ann Scheidler, no patient was transported, nevertheless, some kind of medical emergency initially existed that prompted the call for emergency assistance. "Two women suffered serious abortion complications on Friday at Planned Parenthood's clinics. One lived and one died. These clinics need to be investigated thoroughly by the authorities before more women are maimed or killed," said Newman. Planned Parenthood's medical and legal problems extend nationwide. In the past 18 months, Operation Rescue has documented ten incidents of botched abortions at Planned Parenthood clinics in cities including Boston, Massachusetts, St. Paul, Minnesota, Virginia Beach, Virginia, Sioux City, Iowa, Everett, Washington, and St. Louis, Missouri. "The ten botched abortions we have documented are just the tip of the iceberg. These are just the small fraction that pro-life activists happened to witness and document. Planned Parenthood does everything it can to conceal the truth about the actual number of serious complications at its clinics," said Newman. Other abuse-related problems have been exposed in recent months, including: * Planned Parenthood of Illinois - the came place where Tonya Reaves died - is under investigation for Medicaid fraud committed by its medical director, abortionist Caroline Hoke. Criminal charges against Planned Parenthood in Kansas for illegal late-term abortions and manufacturing evidence. * Whistleblower suits fined by former Planned Parenthood employees inCalifornia, Texas, and Iowa alleging massive billing fraud. * Closure of the entire Planned Parenthood Golden Gate affiliate for financial malfeasance. * The widespread non-reporting of child sex abuse. * The participation in sex-selection abortions. * Congressional investigation into Planned Parenthood's misuse of Federal funds for abortions and non-reporting of child sex abuse. * The webcam abortion pill scam in Iowa that has prompted Federal legislation as well as new laws banning the dangerous practice in at least seven states. * The documentation by Life Dynamics, Inc. that Planned Parenthood specifically targets minority communities, especially Blacks, for abortion.
"When we cut through the misleading rhetoric that Planned Parenthood spins out on a daily basis, what is left is an unscrupulous and corrupt organization that will stop at nothing to sell abortions and keep government subsidies rolling into their coffers," said Newman. "We must oppose the tax funding of Planned Parenthood at every level in order to protect the public from fraud and medical abuse." Meanwhile, Tonya Reaves lay dead in the morgue while her family pleads for answers. Her twin sister Toni told reporters that Tonya was "just fine one day and then the next day she was gone...We are just trying to figure out what happened." The Chicago Sun-Times has reported that calls to the Reaves family are now being referred to a personal-injury lawyer. Members of the Black community have also expressed outrage. "To this day, Planned Parenthood's billion dollars a year, genocidal formula continues to kill women and children - with Black women and children being disproportionately targeted for abortion. This is no accident - it's just business - a very cruel and bloody business!" stated Day Gardner, President of National Black Pro-Life Union. "I am so sad and angry about the death of this beautiful black girl and her baby. Tonya Reaves and her child should not have died!" "We pray that Tonya's heartbreaking death is the proverbial straw that breaks the camel's back as far as Planned Parenthood is concerned," said Newman. "Enough is enough. We simply cannot wait until another young mother is killed and more tax dollars are flushed down Planned Parenthood's abortion rat hole." Earlier this year, President Obama remarked on the tragic slaying of Trayvon Martin, "If I had a son, he'd look like Trayvon. And I think they are right to expect that all of us as Americans are going to take this with the seriousness it deserves, and that we're going to get to the bottom of exactly what happened." "Well Mr. President, does Tonya Reaves look enough like your daughters to investigate Planned Parenthood?" asked Newman. "To do any less is to disrespect Tonya's memory and play politics with women's lives." Operation Rescue is calling on the public to contact President Obama and demand an investigation into the death of Tonya Reaves and insist that the Federal funding of Planned Parenthood be immediately suspended until we "get to the bottom of exactly what happened."
