Dear Friends,
It is so tempting to feel discouraged and lose hope after the Supreme Court of the United States did not strike down Obamacare. As we all know, the violation of religious freedom is tucked neatly inside of it under the title of 'The Affordable Care Act' which mandates free contraception, sterilization, and abortion inducing drugs. However, we also must remember that discouragement is a tool of Satan. It is a way of depleting our energy away from the need to continue to fight. That's why the move this week by Representative Denny Rehberg (R-Montana), Chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health & Human Service and Education, to introduce "beefed-up" conscience protections in his subcommittee's 2013 appropriations bill that funds the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services was so encouraging and gutsy in light of his run for the Senate in the fall.
These are times of difficult trial for Christians in America. Standing firm while continuing to find creative ways to push back against this oppressive mandate is what we are called to do. Obviously, the best possible solution would be for government to get out of healthcare. If this does not happen, the next best thing is legal protection of our religious freedom and conscience rights. We must pray fervently that Americans will vote to protect these rights in November.
