Obama and Romney compared on 7 topics important to people of faith
In response to one of the most unprecedented attacks on the religious freedom of people of faith here and abroad by the federal government, The Catholic Association today released a voter guide to educate Catholics, a pivotal voting bloc in the 2012 election, and people of faith on seven issues related to religious liberty.
"Over the past four years, the Obama Administration has put forth divisive policies and government regulations that that ignore our First Amendment protections and erode the religious freedom of Catholics and people of faith," said Maureen Ferguson, senior policy advisor to The Catholic Association.
"Imposing the HHS mandate on Catholic charitable organizations and employers was just one example where President Obama chose politics over the common good. On the critical issues of human trafficking, international religious freedom and allowing churches to choose their own leaders, the administration has used regulation, laws and litigation to undermine the religious rights of people of faith," said Ashley McGuire, Senior Fellow with The Catholic Association.
More than one million copies of the guide will be distributed across the country in English and Spanish. The voter guide is available with or without logo so that activists are able to rebrand the guide for their own separate groups. The guide is also available online for printing and distribution across social networks.
"The President's unprecedented HHS mandate is the most far reaching encroachment on religious freedom in American history. People of faith, religious charitable organizations and employers should not be forced to either violate their faith or face crippling fines that would damage their ability to serve the poor, the needy, the sick, the elderly, the orphaned and the overall common good," said Maureen Ferguson.
Were there to be no support in the whole history of ethical and moral thought, were there no acknowledged confirmation from medical science, were the history of legal opinion to the contrary, we would still have to conclude on the basis of God's Holy Word that the unborn child is a person in the sight of God. He is protected by the sanctity of life graciously given to each individual by the Creator, Who alone places His image upon man and grants them any right to life which they have.
