'Recall Abortion' Offers a Unique Look at America's Most Divisive Issue

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y., Jan. 2, 2013/Christian Newswire/ -- Americans are savvy consumers. When a product does not live up to its promise, we boycott, we sue and finally, we demand a government recall. Forty years ago, Americans were sold a new product: Legal abortion. We were assured that legal, accessible abortion on demand was needed to elevate the rights of women and improve the lives of children. We believed these lies and we lined up outside clinics to buy this product.

But abortion has exploited women, not empowered them. Abortion has allowed us to see children as commodities whose very existence depends on our whim. Abortion has killed more than 50 million unborn Americans and left millions of their mothers wounded, emotionally and physically.

Isn't it to time recall abortion?

Recall Abortion, the first book by longtime pro-life activist Janet Morana, examines the societal changes that led to legal abortion and the lies that ensure it continues to be one of the most common medical procedures for women. Through research, interviews with medical professionals and testimonies of women who have had abortions, Ms. Morana takes apart the myth that abortion is safe and necessary health-care and shows the abortion industry for what it is: A profit-driven, unscrupulous and often criminal enterprise that victimizes women.

Catholic author and syndicated talk-show host Teresa Tomeo believes Recall Abortion "will put abortion right where it belongs, on a worldwide 'Hall of Shame' episode and the top of the recall list." Wendy Wright of the Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute (C-FAM) says the book "provides a compelling case against the primary selling points for abortion."

The book will be available Jan. 22 from St. Benedict's Press and can be pre-ordered now for $20 per copy at www.priestsforlife.org/store/p-336-recall-abortion.aspx

In his foreword for Recall Abortion, Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, wrote: "If we start with a listening heart and a dose of good will, we can see a common question bridging the pro-life, pro-choice divide and uniting those who care about women. The question is: What does abortion do to those who undergo it? What kind of promises does it make, and does it deliver on those promises?"

Those questions, which cut right to the heart of the abortion debate, are answered in Recall Abortion.

Janet Morana is the executive director of Priests for Life, co-founder of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign, and co-host of EWTN's "Defending Life" and "The Catholic View for Women."
