National Community Baby Shower!

October 9, 2013

Be the Revolution in 2014!

"With a brutal act killing the youngest of our kind daily, we who are survivors of a generation that has only known legal abortion must rise up. Students have a unique and beautiful opportunity to contribute their fiery passion, youthful energy, and creative minds to be a revolution that will fundamentally transform our culture for the better." - Stephanie Gray, Canadian Center for Bio-Ethical Reform.

If you were at the Students for Life National Conference in 2012 you had the opportunity to hear a great pro-life apologetics training by Stephanie Gray, executive director of the Canadian Centre for Bio-Ethical Reform. If you were not there that’s okay, because Stephanie is coming back for the 2014 National Conference to equip you and challenge you to Be the Revolution through her presentation: “Challenging the ‘I am personally pro-life but…’”

One of the most difficult positions faced on campus is what we call the “’Pro-Life, but…’ Position.” Whether they would not want to see abortion re criminalized, or they think that there should be exceptions where abortion should be allowed, or they believe that the morality of abortion should be decided by the individual these murky waters can be hard to wade through when talking to other students. Which is why we are so excited to have Stephanie join us in 2014! You will not want to miss what she has to say, the real tools to frame our pro-life position that you need to address this, and all arguments you will face on campus in support of abortion. Please join us in 2014 and Be the Revolution!

National Community Baby Shower!
Participate in the 2013 National Community Baby Shower Day, October 26-27th, to help provide resources for pregnant and parenting mothers on your campus and in your community!

This national day was inspired by the Pro-Life Aggies group at Texas A&M University when they hosted a “Community Baby Shower,” asking shoppers of a local store to purchase diapers, wipes, formula, and baby items to give to the group so they could, in turn, donate them to a local resource center for young parents. After their 1st Baby Shower, the group was able to donate over $700 in cash and truckloads of baby items! Because it was so successful, they have decided to partner with Students for Life of America and Stand True for the 3rd year in a row to make the “Community Baby Shower” a national movement to support pregnancy resource centers. For more information and helpful tips on how you can host your own Community Baby Shower, go here.

We are hoping at least 100 pro life campus groups to participate in order to help women across our country! See the official event Facebook page for tips on how to make your baby shower a success!

What is the Value of The #PPProject?
By Tina Whittington, Executive Vice President

SFLA’s Planned Parenthood Project Tour kicked off September 10th and has been going strong for almost a month now. When SFLA first began reaching out to students about hosting the Planned Parenthood Project display on their campus, students often asked, “What’s the value?”

For those groups who hosted the Planned Parenthood Project last month, I think you would hear a resounding, “hosting this project is worth all the time and effort – and SFLA was with us every step of the way!” This may be tooting our own horn a little but just to show the value of The Planned Parenthood Project, and activism outreach like this in general, below are just a few stories from the road:

From Alicia Frick, Great Lakes Area Regional Coordinator:
While the students dealt with criticism and vandalism they had a wonderful opportunity to have great dialogue with their student body. One member of the IU Students for Life organization in particular talked with a student for over two hours. In their dialogue the student shared that a family member of his is an employee at Planned Parenthood. From Casey Tesauro, West Coast Regional Coordinator:
One of the great things about The Planned Parenthood Project is that it is a great tool for starting rational dialogue with students who are on the fence about abortion or who do not that Planned Parenthood commits abortions. Here is a great dialogue I had with a post abortive student at Sacramento State, she did not change her mind on the spot, but thanked me for talking with her: http://bit.ly/1hv9hpH

From Lo Martinez, Rocky Mountain Regional Coordinator:
It was really the first time I had students come up to me yelling and calling me a liar, but it was also the first time those same people stayed to have a conversation with me for 55 minutes about abortion, life, and Planned Parenthood. I couldn’t believe the desire that those students had to listen to my message, it was truly inspiring. Read more here: http://lo.studentsforlife.org/2013/10/08/ppproject-works/
