Obama Admin Working to Rescind Conscience Rights on Abortion
The Obama administration is still working to overturn conscience rights for medical professionals on abortion that were put in place at the tail end of the Bush administration.

In 2008, the Bush administration issued a rule that prohibited recipients of federal money from discriminating against doctors, nurses and health care aides who refuse to take part in medical procedures to which they have religious or moral objections, such as abortion.

The rule implemented existing conscience protection laws that ensure medical professionals cannot be denied employment because they do not want to assist in abortions.

New information about the state of those protections and efforts to repeal them comes from legal papers the administration filed in a case the state of Connecticut launched against the conscience protections.

In a document filed in federal court in November, Obama administration attorneys admitted that the administration wants to finalize a rescission of the conscience rules but has been delayed because of other business likely due to the HHS working on implementing the provisions of the ObamaCare law. Doctors Say Adult Stem Cell Research Cures HIV-Positive Man
Doctors in Germany say they have cured an American living there who has the HIV/AIDS virus by using a treatment based on adult stem cells, the more ethical form of stem cell research.

In 2008, German doctors reported they had used a selective adult stem cell transplant to treat a leukemia patient. The treatment had a side effect that the transplant also removed his HIV infection.

After the transplant, the virus was undetectable in his bloodstream for at least two years and he no longer took antiretroviral drugs.

Now, doctors have reveale the name of the patient Timothy Ray Brown, an HIV-positive man and they are claiming the results with this patient provide evidence for a cure for HIV infection using the selective adult stem cell transplant.

Publishing their results in the medical journal Blood, they say, In conclusion, our results strongly suggest that cure of HIV has been achieved in this patient. Full story at LifeNews.com

Pro-Life Women s Leader Debates Ex-Planned Parenthood Prez
Penny Nance, the pro-life leader of Concerned Women for America, faced off today against former Planned Parenthood president Gloria Feldt in a several minute debate on MSNBC.

The television station led the package with a preview of the battles in the coming Congress where pro-life advocates have higher numbers than ever before.

MSNBC asked Nance what the new chairman of the health subcommittee that will begin the review and potential dismantling of the abortion-funding ObamaCare bill meant to the pro-life movement.

Joe Pitts will be the new chairman of the health subcommittee and you ve got to understand that Joe has the job because American women by 15 points swung in this past election for this Congress, the CWA leader said. We have a pro-life House of Representatives. We have a pro-life House leadership. And we have 12 new senators who are pro-life.

Yes that s going to change the dynamics on Capitol Hill, Nance added. It s a new day in America and we can t continue to fund Planned Parenthood. Full story at LifeNews.com

Americans Oppose Pro-Abortion ObamaCare as Judge Rules
As a federal judge issued a ruling declaring a portion of the abortion-funding ObamaCare law unconstitutional because of the individual mandate, new polls show support for the law at low levels.
The key issue in the complaint the state of Virginia filed is that the individual mandate in the law, requiring Americans to purchase health insurance (which may very well fund abortions) is unconstitutional and a violation of the power Congress has to regulate interstate commerce.

Yesterday, Judge Henry Hudson issued a 42-page opinion writing that the individual mandate exceeds Congress authority, saying it is neither within the letter nor the spirit of the Constitution.

Also yesterday, an ABC News/Washington Post poll found support for the ObamaCare law at its lowest levels ever.

Support for ObamaCare peaked at 48 percent in November 2009 and now stands at just 43 percent with 52 percent of Americans opposing it. The nine point percentage on the opposition side is also the biggest gap in the poll since the health care debate began in earnest last summer. Full story at LifeNews.com

University of Wisconsin Stops Plan for Second-Term Abortions
The University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics stopped a controversial plan to do second-trimester abortions at the Madison Surgery Center after ongoing protests from pro-life organizations.
Citing safety and privacy of patients as the main reason, officials made the announcement late Monday.

In February 2009, the Board of the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics approved a plan to create a second trimester abortion facility to be located at 1 S. Park St in Madison. The plan called for approximately 125 abortions annually on women whose unborn children are about 19 to 22 weeks along.

Doctors at UW decided to put the abortion business together after the retirement of Dennis Christensen, who had done the second trimester abortions at the Planned Parenthood center in Madison until he retired in December 2008. Full story at LifeNews.com

Carhart Hasn t Closed Omaha, Nebraska Abortion Business Yet
LeRoy Carhart, the practitioner who does late abortions and has begun doing them in Maryland after a new Nebraska law forced him to do the abortions elsewhere, has not closed his Nebraska abortion center.

In a news story today, the web site Politico followed the numerous stories LifeNews.com has presented over the last several months about how the Nebraska fetal pain law forced Carhart to stop doing abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy.

Although Carhart has been hired by a Germantown, Maryland abortion business to do abortions there, the Abortion and Contraception Clinic he runs in Bellevue, Nebraska continues to do abortions.

Politico reported today that the law has caused Carhart to close his Omaha practice and reopen it in Iowa and Maryland and that Carhart, chased out of Nebraska by its ban on late-term abortion, has begun practicing in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

LifeNews.com contacted two pro-life advocates who have closely monitored the man who has been the subject of two Supreme Court cases over partial-birth abortions and they say Carhart s abortion center continues. They say the details of the news story are not correct.

Alaska Judge Weakens Parental Notification on Abortion Law
An Alaska judge issued a ruling on Monday that allows a parental notification law to stand but weakened it to the point that pro-life groups say it is now ineffective.

Superior Court Judge John Suddock ruled the new parental notification law state voters approved can stand, but he said abortion practitioners should not face prison sentences for failing to comply with it. He also removed a section allowing parents to file a civil lawsuit against abortion practitioners who don t comply seeking financial damages.

The law calls for a fine of up to $1,000 and imprisonment of up to five years when abortion practitioners keep parents out of their daughter s abortion. Full story at LifeNews.com

Secretariat Movie Reminds of Daughters Missing After Abortions
There is a heartbreaking scene in the movie Secretariat, where the main character, Penny, is unable to attend her daughter s performance because of another commitment her commitment to save the family horse farm and shepherd the racehorse Secretariat to victory.

Penny is on the phone with her son, who is attending his sister s play. He holds the receiver up, so that Penny can hear her beloved daughter sing Silent Night. She lies across her bed, sobbing, because she is unable to be with her daughter on her big night. Actress Diane Lane expertly projects her character s grief, showing her to be inconsolable because of her separation from her teenage girl.

In watching that scene, I couldn t help but think of the pain of women who will never hear their daughters sing Christmas carols let alone see them perform. Their separation from their daughters represents a life term in an emotional prison constructed by the abortion industry. Full story at LifeNews.com
