Dear Friends For Life, International Protect Life Award Recognizes Achievements in Reduction of Maternal Mortality, and Care and Concern For: the child to be born. Over 30 NGO leaders active at the United Nations praised Chile for having the lowest maternal mortality rate in all of Latin America. In a communication to President Pinera announcing the group’s decision to designate its International Protect Life Award to the people of Chile, the leaders celebrated that more Chilean women have safely delivered their babies than ever before. The committee announced the award at the UN during the 2011 Meeting of the UN Commission on Status of Women, and emphasized the importance the UN places on reducing maternal mortality within the UN Millennium Development Goals. The leaders also referenced the ways Chile, through its constitution and other programs, provided for care and protection of the child before birth. Specifically mentioned was that the "Chile Crece Contigo" ["Chile Grows With You"] program begun by former Chilean President Michelle Bachelet and meant to advocate for the well-being and protection of young children, has always included strong awareness that the unborn child is a member of the family. Also mentioned by the NGO leaders was the new "Comprometidos por la Vida" ["Committed to Life"] program announced by President Pinera to offer assistance to pregnant women in difficult circumstances in order to carry their babies to term. God Bless,
Jerry Novotny, OMI

(Focus on Asia): "Proposed Legislation in Russia Seeks to Strongly Restrict Abortions in Order to Overcome Low Birthrates" -We have discussed here before the population implosion taking place in most parts of Europe. Approximately 2.1 Children per woman are needed to maintain the population of a given country or ethnic group. In most of Europe, the birthrate hovers well below 2, often as low as 1.3 in some Eastern European countries. In effect these cultures are aborting and contracepting themselves out of existence.

ITEM #1: Abortions on Disabled Babies: The Prenatal Testing Sham
But what is less reported in the coverage on the new testing is its likely impact. Already, existing prenatal testing is followed by high termination rates, exceeding 70 percent in California, and 90 percent in England and Europe. At this high percentage, it is more accurate to call it an "elimination rate." With each advance in prenatal testing, the next generation of children born with Down syndrome is smaller, so much so that there are close to 50 percent fewer children born with Down syndrome than if all were carried to term.

ITEM #2: Eugenic abortion of disabled babies increasing in UK The most recent available statistics from England and Wales show that eugenic abortions have risen by ten percent in the past year. The 2010 statistics, published by the Department of Health this week, also found that unmarried girls are overwhelmingly more likely to abort their children than married women, with 81 percent of abortions carried out on single women. For every two abortions carried out on married women, 11 children of unmarried women were killed by abortion.

ITEM #3: Mandatory Testing for Down Syndrome Coming to France?
Wouldn't it be nice if the purpose of pushing prenatal testing for Down syndrome was to assure that fetuses testing positive would be later welcomed into the world in full preparation for the medical challenges that sometimes arise in babies with the condition? Of course, the real point is to make sure that as many as possible are not allowed to be born. And now France is thinking very seriously about requiring that all pregnant women be tested regardless of risk factors - that is, legally requiring - not just recommending - a medical procedure so that no babies with Down slip through undetected.

ITEM #4: Research Shows Abortion is Not the Solution to Maternal Mortality
"We have known for decades that most maternal deaths can be prevented with adequate nutrition, basic health care and good obstetric care throughout pregnancy, at delivery and postpartum," said Jeanne Head, National Right to Life vice president for international affairs and U.N. representative. "Yet some in the international community have focused their resources primarily on legalizing abortion at the expense of women's lives."
****************************************
ITEM #5: Good News: Younger Generation Strong on Life Issue
The 18- to 34-year-old generation leads all age groups in the percentage (53) that believes abortion is morally wrong. And just 31 percent of that age group says abortion should be legal under any circumstance.
****************************************
ITEM #6: 'Non-Human Animal' Personhood and the IEET
Summary: Given the current efforts globally to secure "personhood" for all human beings, the influential efforts of those like transhumanists, futurists, eugenicists, genetic engineers, and animal rights advocates to secure "personhood" for non-human animals should not be overlooked. A perfect example is the Institute for Ethics and Emerging Technologies (IEET).

ITEM #7 Dead or "brain dead?" What's the difference?
It seems clear that in certain cases we are playing games with human lives for utilitarian gain. So glaring is the reality of this issue that there are those who now argue that doctors should not be burdened with determination of death criteria, since the good of organ donation outweighs the harm (killing) done to the donor. Scary, isn't it?

ITEM #8: A New Age beyond right and wrong
New Age beliefs may seem loopy but millions they influence millions of people. ...A professor of Religious Studies at the University of Denver describes the New Age as "the spiritual version of AIDS; it destroys the ability of people to cope and function."
****************************************
ITEM #9: Why mothers matter
All that children need for healthy development is two caring adults. Really?
****************************************
ITEM #10: Climbing the Ladder at Any Cost
Climbing the ladder of success is certainly not a bad thing. Every parent would want his or her children to be more successful than they are; however, climbing the ladder does not mean that we step on the fingers of the person on the rung below us in order to lift ourselves up.
****************************************
ITEM #11: Overpopulation is a Myth: Plenty of Food and Space Exists
Proclamations of overpopulation have circulated for decades. Are they true? First off, what is meant by the word "overpopulation"? It has nothing to do with the amount of people but rather to the resources and the capacity of the environment to sustain human activities. ... With the world population at around 6.8 billion last year, food and living space are hardly a concern. In 1990, it was estimated that the world could feed up to 35 billion people. Most sources estimate that the global population will level out at around 9.2 billion in 2050, and then start to decline.****************************************
ITEM #12: Can euthanasia be a human right?
Clearly, the issue of assisted suicide is a moral and ethical minefield. As with all deeply complex human issues, the debate for and against this process has its fierce supporters and detractors.*****************************
