House Votes Next Week on Bill to Stop Abortion in Obamacare
The House of Representatives will vote next week on legislation that would stop abortion funding in Obamacare, the national health care plan that contains no limits on taxpayer funding of abortions.

H.R. 358, Protect Life Act, will likely come up for a vote on the House floor next Thursday after pro-life lawmakers fended off numerous hostile amendments from pro-abortion members of Congress during the committee markup. Capital Hill sources informed LifeNews today that they expect pro-abortion lawmakers to offer many of those weakening amendments that would water down the bill on the House floor.

The Protect Life Act makes it clear that no funds authorized or appropriated by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), including tax credits and cost-sharing reductions, may be used to pay for abortion or abortion coverage. It specifies that individual people or state or local governments must purchase a separate elective abortion rider or insurance coverage that includes elective abortion but only as long as that is done with private funds and not monies authorized by Obamacare.

The bill also specifies that insurance issuers may offer health plans that include elective abortion and may offer separate elective abortion riders, so long as they ensure PPACA funds are not used for premiums or administrative costs. The bill also clarifies that issuers who offer elective abortion coverage must also offer a qualified health benefits plan that is identical except that it does not cover elective abortion.

The pro-life measure also ensures that state laws protecting conscience rights, restricting or prohibiting abortion or coverage or funding of abortion, or establishing procedural requirements on abortion are not abrogated by Obamacare. It also makes it so any state or local governments receiving funding under Obamacare may not subject any health care entity to discrimination or require any health plan to subject any entity to discrimination on the basis that it refuses to undergo abortion training, refuses to require abortion training, refuses to perform or pay for abortions, or refuses to provide abortion referrals.

ACTION: Contact your member of the House at http://www.house.gov to urge strong support for the Protect Life Act and opposition to any weakening amendments. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/10/06/house-votes-next-week-on-bill-to-stop-abortion-in-obamacare/

Steve Jobs Changed the World: Adoption Changed His
The news hit me in the gut. I couldn t believe I was seeing those few numbers, communicating his passing, beneath his photo: 1955-2011. Steve Jobs has, literally, changed the world. I m typing this on my Mac, will check my emails and Twitter status on my iPad, and will stay in touch with everyone I love through my iPhone.

As a creative professional, his visionary work has helped my own visions become reality.

But his vision, his destiny and his ability to affect people, globally, may never have happened. Jobs was adopted as a baby and loved by his parents, Clara and Paul Jobs. The baby they took into their hearts and home had a purpose in life that would be unleashed by the powerful act of adoption.

He began today s revolutionary Apple company and has departed this world with a professional legacy that is awe-inspiring. The partially bitten apple represents the temptation that millions of us have been unable to avoid waiting in day long lines for shiny objects that proved to us science fiction could be made reality by a creative genius. Jobs minimalistic approach delivered a multitude of near-perfect electronic devices. From amber screens to full-color high definition, visually we ve been changed by the adoption of Apple s technology.

It s amazing to me that, in 2011, especially among Christians, how foreign a concept adoption is. Adoption is the essence of salvation. There is no Christianity without adoption, in the spiritual sense. Yet, in the physical sense, it is rarely considered as an option. For those who are so passionately prolife, it is often the challenge thrown before us in our opposition to abortion, and rightfully so. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/10/06/steve-jobs-changed-the-world-adoption-changed-his/

Abby Johnson: Celebrating Two Years Since I Quit Planned Parenthood
Today is year two. The second year since I walked away from Planned Parenthood. The anniversary of my new life. I am a better mother, a better wife, a better friend, and a new creation in Christ. These two years have been the best of my life. It hasn t been without some heartache, but it has all been worth it.

I am filled with emotions today. I am happy because I never thought my life would turn out so beautiful. It is wonderful to follow God s plan. I am blessed in a way that I don t deserve. I have amazing friends friends that I didn t have just two years ago friends that will be with me the rest of my life. My marriage is better than it has ever been.

I never realized how the evil of my job had crept into my life at home. Now we are free of that. I value my daughter more than I ever have. I never really saw motherhood as a gift; now I am able to see that it is the greatest gift we are given as women.

I also look back on the day I resigned and feel emotional. I couldn t have had better allies in my corner the Brazos Valley Coalition for Life. My world was falling apart and they were strong, prayerful, centered. They were there to guide me when I didn t know where to step especially Shawn Carney. I wouldn t be here healthy, grounded, stable without him. When I showed up at his office, he started to protect me. I couldn t seem to see what was in the future for me, but he could. He was prepared. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/10/06/abby-johnson-celebrating-two-years-since-i-quit-planned-parenthood/

Sebelius Attacks Republicans on Abortion at NARAL Event
Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius, pro-abortion President Barack Obama s top health official, attacks Republicans as supposedly anti-women during a keynote speech before NARAL activists yesterday.

Sebelius hosted a massive fundraiser for one of the nation s biggest pro-abortion organizations and her speech comes at a time when the Obama administration is already cozying up to pro-abortion groups to raise the financial and grassroots support he needs from liberal Democrats to have a shot at winning his re-election bid next year. Sebelius speech follows one from the chief of staff to First Lady Michelle Obama at a prior NARAL event.

The former Kansas governor was the featured speaker at the 17th annual Power of Choice luncheon NARAL threw in Chicago at The Standard Club in Chicago, Obama s stomping grounds. The event is clearly a big fundraiser for NARAL as tickets for anyone other than college students and young professionals started at $200 and top sponsorship levels range anywhere from $2,500 to $25,000.

We are in a war, Sebelius said, according to an AP report, as she accused the GOP of attacking women s health by virtue of members of the party in Congress pushing to de-fund abortions and pro-abortion groups like Planned Parenthood. We ve come a long way in women s health over the last few decades, but we are in a war. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/10/06/sebelius-attacks-republicans-on-abortion-at-naral-event/

Obama Tells Democrats Birth Control is Preventive Care
At a Democratic National Committee fundraiser last night, President Obama expressed his ardent satisfaction that his new health law regulations will force faith-based health care providers to provide contraceptive services without any co-payment from those receiving them.

When one particularly pleased member of the audience cried out, birth control as a pre-existing condition, the President said, You re stealing my line. To yet another call-out, Mr. Obama said, Darn tootin .

Contraception as preventive care? According to the federal Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, preventive care refers to those situations in which consumers may consider themselves healthy or physically at risk but have not yet been labeled with a diagnosis. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/10/06/obama-tells-democrats-birth-control-is-preventative-care/

99% of Adults With Down Syndrome Report Being Happy in Life
The worst statistic that is floating around these days is the one that upwards of 90% or more of Down Syndrome children are aborted after prenatal testing. I am convinced that this is because parents are pressured into abortion by their health care providers.

In a totally backwards world, parents are told that they are selfish and evil if they DO NOT kill their special needs child. And with a new, early, non-invasive genetic test on the horizon, the pressure on parents to get rid of their Down Syndrome child will only increase. I refer to this quote more often than I should, but I believe it is so important to understand what is being said in doctor s offices about those with Down Syndrome:

A woman I know was told by her obstetrician that her fetus had Down syndrome. The doctor ordered her to abort, she refused . Another woman was similarly coerced. Her doctor told her that her baby would be more like a fish than a human and would only be as smart as a baboon. From Lori B. Andrews book The Clone Age http://www.lifenews.com/2011/10/06/99-of-adults-with-down-syndrome-report-being-happy-in-life/

Doctor Working With Haskell Abortion Business Faces Discipline
One of the doctors who has been picked by Martin Haskell s Ohio abortion business to treat patients who may become victims of botched abortions has himself faced discipline from medical boards in Ohio and Kentucky.

As LifeNews.com reported yesterday, pro-life advocates in Ohio are upset that the state health department has granted Haskell s abortion business a variance allowing him to avoid complying with state law requiring a transfer agreement with a local hospital to transport patients who are injured in botched abortions for immediate medical care.

Ironically, documents the pro-life group Operation Rescue obtained reveal obstetrician William Bowers, who has been accepted by the Ohio Department of Health to offer emergency hospital care for botched abortion patients of Haskell s has been disciplined in Kentucky and banned from the practice of obstetrics for five years. He also faces further discipline in Ohio.

Bowers was named in the ODH variance because Haskell and other abortion practitioners who work at his facility lack hospital privileges as required by law. The variance allowed Haskell s late-term abortion facility in Sharonville to stay in business as long as two other physicians agreed to provide hospital care whenever Haskell or his associates inflict injuries on abortion patients. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/10/06/doctor-working-with-haskell-abortion-business-faces-discipline/

There is No Silver Bullet to Overturning Roe v. Wade
At a Labor Day forum sponsored by the Tea Party for the Republican candidates for president, one of the panelists, Professor Robert George, asked the five candidates who participated whether, in an effort to overturn Roe v. Wade, 410 U.S. 113 (1973), they would support Congressional legislation to declare the unborn child a person, as that word is used in § 1 of the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/10/06/there-is-no-silver-bullet-to-overturning-roe-v-wade/
